Hi MSI community,

My name is Justin and I work on the My Starbucks Rewards program. Our team has noticed an idea that continues to get a lot of votes here: earning Starbucks rewards based on the number of items you buy rather than the number of transactions you make (as it is now).

The idea of earning more Stars for spending more makes sense. It’s a system that would have an appealing logic if our main focus was to encourage you to spend more, but that’s not really our goal.

At Starbucks, our rewards program comes from a different philosophy. At its simplest, we like seeing you, regardless of whether your purchase is a short brewed coffee or four Venti White Chocolate Mochas. My Starbucks Rewards is designed to show our appreciation simply for stopping by.

Thanks for the great discussion on this topic. While we don’t currently have plans to change the way Stars are earned, we often review the ideas you share with us about My Starbucks Rewards, and we are working on other program enhancements, which we’ll have to share in the coming months.

Can you believe it’s almost February? Where did the time go? Well, if you’re like me and still feeling nostalgic for the holiday season past, do I have some exciting news for you. Some of your favorite holiday beverages are still available! No, I’m not kidding. Our seasonal Caramel Brulee Latte, Peppermint Mocha, Skinny Peppermint Mocha and Gingerbread Latte are all available for order right now at most Starbucks locations. Why? Well, we enjoyed the holiday so much this year that we thought we’d celebrate it a little longer. How long will these seasonal treats last? That’s anyone’s guess. Enjoy them before they run out – until next year, that is.

You’ve also asked us to keep the Skinny Mocha on our beverage menu. Well, we did. It’s a small post-holiday surprise that you can enjoy all year.
