Splash Sticks

BE SPLASH-FREE
Thanks for your many ideas and comment about providing something for our lids to minimize coffee splashes. As a result of your feedback about spills out of the sip hole, we have been testing splash sticks in limited markets to gauge customer interest (sounds like some of you have seen them). Based on an overwhelmingly positive customer and partner response, we are rolling out splash sticks nationwide this week. Also, to help minimize waste, you can save your splash stick to be cleaned and reused.

We hope this helps keep your car and clothes a little cleaner on your rush to work; enjoy and let us know what you think.

Note from October 2008:  we've had a few questions about the timing of this product--deployment was so close to site launch!  Let me give a few more details on that.  These splash sticks were developed for international markets and were being tested in Japan when MSI launched.  At the time, there were no plans to bring these to the United States, but then when this idea appeared and gained momentum so quickly, we hurried and brought them here as well.  This, then, was the very first thing at Starbucks that "changed" due to your input!  Thanks for the questions and helping us clarify.  And keep your ideas and votes coming!

I love the splash stick idea, splashing from the sip hole always annoyed me.  I was wondering, though - have you folks considered plastic lids with attached, "hinged" or sliding hole plugs?  I know Solo makes such a lid: the Traveler Plus White Plastic Polystyrene Dome Lid. I only use Solo as an example b/c I believe your current lids are from them.  Did you go the splash stick route because it is unique to Starbucks, and increases brand awareness with its trademark green color and siren logo?  Just curious.

And no, I don't work for Solo, I'm not even in sales.

The splash sticks are far from being unique to Starbucks.  Been around for years and are quite useless really.

I love these, and they have made a dent in the amount of spill messes in our car. I hope they are made of a sustainable material though (e.g. vegetable "plastics").

I love the splash sticks.  Unfortunately, not all the stores have them and I have to ask for a piece of scotch tape.  Tacky (and no pun intended.)

Good idea but, from store to store, I see the sticks at the cash register or at the pickup counter or at the milk/sugar station or even out-of-reach of customers.  Put them in the same place in all stores, and label what holds them so everybody knows what they are.

Great Idea.  Love them. Roll them out.

One of the best. Traveling, walking, or riding. These sticks do not leak hot coffee like the sticker stamps do!

I love the splash stick, but why doesn't it double as a stirrer?

Here's a thought. How about Tazo green tea shaken or stirred from a green tea Via tube. I could have my favorite drink anytime anywhere.

Works for me!!!
