Store Location Suggestions – Here’s where to make a request

Thanks, loyal customers, for your suggestions on where we should be opening new stores. From India to Amsterdam to Appleton (and everywhere in between), there have been a whole lot of ideas.

Since My Starbucks Idea is focused on finding the universal things that matter to customers on a large scale, it’s really difficult for suggestions on one site to really gain momentum with the whole MSI community. Fortunately, we have already created a way to get your site recommendations to the grassroots local level for the US and Canada. It’s located on our website at http://www.starbucks.com/leaseFAQ

While this site is primarily designed to communicate with our landlords, it also includes a handy map of Store Development offices and phone numbers to direct you to our real estate team members. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the PfM Map to locate the right office for your suggestion. Ask for the Store Development Manager when you call.

Our Store Development Managers are a busy bunch, and are frequently on the road touring new sites and working with brokers to locate the best places to be. You might be surprised at the volume of sites we visit, and in some cases we wait years for the right location to become available. So don’t be let down if you can’t speak to them directly – leave a voicemail message with your location suggestion if they’re not immediately available. They really do listen to customers and appreciate input from folks with local knowledge.

For those of you who live or travel outside of North America, it’s a bit more challenging: At the top of our Starbucks.com homepage, you’ll notice a menu choice called “international”. A pop-up list of many of our international markets can take you to the local website, which usually has a store locator and contact info for the support center. Since real estate practices and availability is different in every country, this is the best link to make your idea heard.

Thanks again for all your great ideas. For those of you in Argentina who have been petitioning for a Starbucks location, we’re happy to say we opened our first store in early June and it’s doing just grand. Thanks for the warm welcome!

This blog entry has been up for nearly four months and I wonder if people are managing to find it.  Has the Store Development Teams received any phone calls based on this blog?

Hello,

I am a huge fan of Starbucks and would really like to suggest that Starbucks please open a location on Davenport and Lansdowne in Toronto, ON; this area is very high populated, but precisely with a huge level of Starbucks' avid and savvy visitors...Most of the people that live there (as I do) must wait until they reach further downtown on their way to work before they are able to purchase their Starbucks coffee/tea of choice.

I am sure that Starbucks would do VERY well in this area and that this location would be full all the time since it is technically located at the tip of the downtown arena!

Please look into this location demographically wise, and I guarantee that you will feel the very same as I do...I love Starbucks and would love to have one within arms reach of my home.

Thank you for your time and have a great day!

Hi!

There is alot of hope in NorthEastern Washington-Stevens County that we will see a new (first and only) Starbucks inside the new additions to the existing Safeway!  Will our hopes come true?  When will you hire?  We are all hoping that we can get our coffee this winter from Starbucks!

There definitely needs to be a Starbucks in Deland, Florida.  There are no starbucks in Deland at all.  The nearest one is almost a half hour away.  Plus, DeLand is home to Stetson University, a college campus with thousands of college students who practically live on coffee.  Starbucks could make a killer profit from a store in Deland, FL.  It is a wonder why there isn't one already there.  ???

This blog entry has been up for nearly 6 months. It would be great if an Idea Partner on the Store Development team could tell us what's been happening over the six months or if all the information in it is still current.

The issue is, many people would like to request a store but not necessarily need to phone someone...they would rather have a voice area online where other people can chip in and vote to show how interested the people around that area is for a store...

We have been promised before that a starbucks will open up at walking distance around our IT park...I would think with 4-5 big companies around (including Microsoft Canada) that it will really happen...but then it didn't and we have no idea why...

A new area is being developed in Weaverville, NC with a Lowe's and Wal-Mart (Northridge Commons); a free standing Starbucks with a drive through would be great here. Easy access to I-26 as well as local traffic.

Your consideration is much appreciated.

Even though I have heard Starbucks is downsizing, it would very beneficial for Starbucks to open a drive-thru location in Goose Creek, SC. There are business going up everywhere on St. James but if you want coffee you have to go to Dunkin Donuts(Yuck). This is a military town and the closest Starbucks is in Summerville about 15 minutes away and being from Seattle and a military spouse I miss my starbucks. There are numerous people that would go there everyday either on their way to the navy base or the Air Force base and I believe that this would be a great way to boost Starbucks sales.

Thanks for your time,

I'd love to have a Starbucks here in East Boston (zip code: 02128). I used to live in Boston, and there were 3 within walking distance of my apartment. Now that I have purchased my first home, I miss being able to go (Easily) to Starbucks. There are a lot of Urban Professionals now moving in to this neighborhood due to its close poximity to downtown boston. I would love a Starbucks near the intersection of Prescott and Chelsea Streets (there is a square there), but also you should look at the "Maverick Square" area. I go to the one at the airport by walking to the T station and taking the airport shuttle bus. Also, there is one on McGrath HWY...but you need a bike and need to cross a busy HWY. Please... COME to East Boston.

There needs to be a Starbucks in Sebastian, FL so i can actually go and relax at one. Since i cannot drive yet, my parents don't want to drive me twenty minutes just for coffee and don't feel like staying there with me. Please bring one to Sebastian!

How about a new store in Bar Harbor, Maine (ZIP code 04609)? I believe I live in the only place in America where the closest Starbuck's is over 50 miles away. As a recent Seattle transplant, this is just cruel!

Bar Harbor has a huge influx of tourists during the summer and a faithful following of cold residents in the winter. I would personally guarantee buying enough peppermint mochas to keep the store profitable.

I'm not the only one, look at the support I have already on the My Starbuck's Idea website: http://bit.ly/GogGk

And if Bar Harbor doesn't hit the numbers, at least look at Ellsworth, Maine.

Thank you for  your time and consideration.

Why not place a store on campus at SUNY Oswego (State University of New York at Oswego) just like the one at SUNY at Buffalo? The closest store to Oswego is almost 30 miles away! You know how much coffee college students drink, and you'll have no shortage of baristas. Not only that, Oswego is located on the shore of Lake Ontario, a recreational boating stop, halfway between Rochester and Watertown. Please do your market research and consider it.

GOOD NEWS & BAD

Of course the bad goes first. I have been purchasing tazo teas for a number of years in box form. I carry a few of these in my purse and visit different store locations all over California. Today i had a rude awakening at my store in Antioch CA on Lone Tree @ Slatten Ranch. For the first time they let me know i would be required to pay 50 cents to cover the cost of the cups. TIMES REALLY ARE TOUGH!!! Now I can buy tazo in box from many venues besides Starbucks but don't usually do this since I mostly visit SB for the water. THIS WAS MOST DISAPPOINTING.

This brings be to GOOD NEWS. Since covering the cost of materials has become a priority I think a card of 10-12 free cups should be offered to not only those buying in box form but maybe for those regularly addicted coffee friends a card of "buy 10 get one free".

Times are tough and we are all feeling the pinch. Finding a way to get the most out of our dollar is what we are all doing.

Hope this might inspire some thinking with all the changes we are feeling.

With Costa Rica being the primary grower, supplier and source of Starbucks coffee beans, why are there no Starbucks in that country?

78% of your beans come from Costa Rica, and the people of that country LOVE coffee. The cost of doing business is high, and the red tape/regulations/time constraints are difficult obstacles, but it would seem to be a worthwhile and beneficial opportunity for an MNE to operate a coffee house in its primary product source's country.

What is the reason behind this lack?

Around two years ago a story was published in the local newspaper that a Starbucks was coming to Pine Bluff, Arkansas.  The artical went as far as telling that it had a store number and the date the store was scheduled to be opened. Well, here we are two years later still Starbucks-less. I think it would be great if a Starbucks was opened on Mallard Loop which is directly off of Olive Street the busiest street in town, a four story hotel recently opened, a shopping center is nearing completion, and another is in the planning stages. Its just across from a Walmart Supercenter and many other business, near a hospital, and Pine Bluff is a college town so I know it would do great. So, please consider opening one here again...We need it.

I have been redirected here, however I am interested in SUGGESTING a new store location, not operating one.

I would like to see a Starbucks in Elyria, Ohio

I believe it is unfair to have 3 locations within 1/4 of a mile of each other in another city, yet have none in an entire county.

Please take my suggestion in consideration, thank you :)

Hello,

Suggestion for a new store location:

I work in Brisbane, CA (just south of San Francisco in the 94005 zip code.)  There is a small strip mall at Old County Road and Brisbane Blvd. that would be an ideal location for a Starbucks store.  There are multiple businesses and residential properties nearby providing a steady flow of customers.  The next nearest Starbucks' are several miles away and are in locations with little to no parking.  I hope someone reading this will open a store here in Brisbane.

I have e-mailed and contacted the company through facebook.  There are numerous residents in my town that are adamant  about having a starbucks or two here.

Parkersburg, WV is a town of about 40,000!  We are home to the Dept of Treasury's Bureau of Public Debt.  We need a few Starbucks in this area!  Thanks for checking this site and listening to our request.  We look forward to enjoying fresh coffee everyday.

I feel like a Starbucks cafe near Phillips Exeter Academy would be productive, especially if it is within walking distance of the campus.  There are many students, faculty and teachers who would be delighted and appreciate a Starbucks cafe nearby. West Frankfort IL, we sit right on I57, we need a CORPORATE  store that will honor cards. The only SBX in this area are licensed stores that do not honor the Gold CArd. We have to drive 2 hrs to get to a corporate store so we can use our Gold Card.  There is an outlet mall at our exit and still some undeveloped property right on the exit.

SNOQUALMIE PASS, WA NEEDS A STARBUCKS, BUSINESS WILL BOOM!

I was up at the pass recently, along with the thousands of other snow lovers and I must say, I would have loved a nice hot starbucks drink. All I got was a machine prepared instant hot coco :( Please consider a new location here, I can only imagine it would do fantastic buisness (especially during the winter, but also for the thousands who travel the pass all year round)!

Please consider a Starbucks in Anderson, South Carolina. Anderson has a residential population of at least 45,000-50,000 and it's population exceeds this when considering the shopping, business, and enterainment revenue in this city. There are only one or two coffee shops in this area to date and this is a fast growing city. There are many people who travel to Clemson, S.C. (Much smaller) community and Greenville, S.C. to enjoy their Starbucks. While I am thankful there are Starbucks located in the other areas, I know you would profit from Anderson. Clemson Blvd to Main St would be the best location. Hopefully when you open your projected Starbucks next year, Anderson, S.C. will be one you choose. I am sure there are many other potential patrons who would love for you and support you in Anderson, SC.

I live in Greeneville, TN.  We have a couple mom & pop coffee shops, and there is a Dunkin Donuts in the works.  Besides me, I know a lot of different people that drive 30+ miles to Johnson City just to visit their Starbucks, and some even go to Knoxville or Sevierville!  I know I'm not alone in wishing there was one in Greeneville!  I am a devoted Starbucks lover and I hope someone will consider this!

I work in Fort Lauderdale on West Cypress Creek Rd (33309).  The entire area is businesses, office complexes, financial companies, etc and not ONE starbucks within 20 minutes!

I'm in between I-95, Florida Turnpike, next to the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, and have hundreds of buildings and financial institutions nearby... And no starbucks?!!  That's like trying to play baseball without a pitcher!  Lots of people waiting to go out and run, but no one to serve it up!

I'm tired of brewing coffee 3x's a day just so I can have hot coffee in the AM and iced coffee in the afternoon! Build one and WE WILL COME

OPEN A STORE IN BELLBROOK, OH!!!

there used to be a CiCi's Pizza and a Coldstone Creamery that recently closed on Wilmington Pike (they were next to each other). My question to the City of Weston, WI Facebook page: "How can we get a coffee shop back in Weston?"

(The last place with a drive-thru recently went under due to legal problems NOT related to business.)

City's Response: "Thanks for the question Corey.  A coffee shop is something we have been working on. Biggby Coffee has been talking with staff about locating a shop in Weston.  We've been told that they are working on their building plans and the Plan Commission/Board should be seeing plans soon for approval."

We could really use a location on Camp Phillips Road in Weston. Right off the highway, across from the two brand new hospitals, the new eye care center, and the new hotels.

Please snatch up this location before Bigby does.

You used to have a location in Hastings, MN and people loved their store, but it has sinced closed.  I have to say that I miss it and make sure I stop by a Starbucks before heading into Hastings because I don't want Caribou or Dunn Bros..  I do have to admit that the location you chose was a poor one and it was on the end of town and was kind of a pain to get to, but I still went because I prefered Starbucks.  There is a now vacant building that would be perfect for you to re-open in Hastings.  It is an old "Wendy's" building that would have ample lounging space and a perfect drive-thru layout.  It is also in a more convenient and high-traffic area and could better compete with Caribou, Dunn Bros. (who's locastion is also inconvenient to get to) and McDonalds.  I think that passing by on this location would be a mistake.  You have customers that drive all the way from Redwing, MN because the Cottage Grove location is now your closest southern store.  Please bring it back......You have a willing and ready Barista that would help make it fantastic!!

I think you should really look into the area in Decatur, IL by the southeast side Walmart.  This would be a great location.  I know I'm not alone when I suggest this.  It is far enough from the other location that it wouldn't hurt their business.  It would be a great choice for the next Starbucks location!!!  Downtown Decatur might be another good suggestion.

In Stony Point, NY we NEED a Starbucks!!! Currently there is no store that is less then a 20 min drive.  I don't want to drive that far for good coffee.  There is a new shopping plaza with a Shoprite supermarket opening as the anchor store and I think this a perfect location for a new Starbucks.  It is right on a major highway and thoroughfare from NYC to Bear Mtn.  It would do great in every season of the year! Check it out... Holt Drive, 10980

How has Starbucks NOT opened near one of the largest transit hubs in Chicago? Jefferson park is the ONLY place where suburban buses, city buses, and the suburban train (Metra) drop hundreds of people off as they hit the EL into the city every day.

There are currently 6,000, students studying in Kirksville, Missouri, a town of 16,000 in northeast Missouri, with no coffee options. The only quality local coffee shop here just closed earlier this month.  There is a state university here called Truman state, with close to 6,000 students, in addition to a medical school, with 200 hundred students (of which I am one of)  And we have no where to study! I would like to suggest a new location for a Starbucks store in the city of Bayonne, New Jersey. Currently, there is not one freestanding Starbucks in the area. There is one located in the Stop and Shop in Bayonne, but i don't go there because I dont even consider it a Starbucks. When i get an iced coffee there, it is practically see through because they don't brew the coffee to Starbucks standards. The closest freestanding Starbucks to Bayonne are located in Staten Island, NYC, where a $8 bridge toll stands in the way. Other than that, the nearest ones in NJ are at least 10-15 miles away, also located in malls or airports, none freestanding.

The location in Bayonne I would like to suggest to you is in Bayonne Crossings, a new plaza that is currently being construction on highway 440. It is a brand new plaza with several big box stores such as Lowes, Walmart, Michaels, and a New York Sports Club, among many other stores. I think this would be a perfect location. cameronllc.com/BayonneCrossing

Greetings Starbucks!

I live in Hutto, TX that’s almost purely a town of commuters so everyone needs morning coffee! I also work from home here for a HUGE company and work long hours and have a very stressful job + 3 kiddos. Right now I have to drive to the next town to get my Iced Venti Carmel Macchiato…. It takes me 35 min round trip so it’s too far to go often during the work day. Life would be so much easier to handle with a location here in town ….pretty pretty please – this lady needs her caffeine!

I moved to Regina from Kingston, Ontario, in May 2008.  Currently, in Kingston, a town smaller than Regina, there are four Starbucks downtown, all within a 900m radius!

Regina:  Three liscened stores in Safeway grocery stores and one in a Chapters bookstore--and one of the Safeway Starucks is 300m from Chapters!

This means there is NO Starbucks in downtown Regina.  Sure, there is a little liscened cafe in the Regina Inn, that serves VERY limited beverages.  I had one coffee from there and it was HORRIBLE!

Please open a Starbucks in downtown Regina!

Campo, CA is a small town near the US/Mexican border. It isn't very developed yet but it is growing because of the border patrol base. They just recently got a 24 hour Subway sandwich store. A Starbucks location would be great for the border patrol employees as well as all the stay-at-home moms and anyone who commutes to work (which would be anyone who lives there that isn't border patrol). There is a great location available right next to a 200+ housing development sandiego.craigslist.org/.../2585153988.html Currently the closest Starbucks is a licensed store inside an Albertsons in Alpine, CA aprox 20 mins away.

How many Starbucks are in New York City? Approximately one for every resident of Manhattan, but only SIX in the borough of the Bronx, that's right, six! And that's including two that are inside a Target, so really only four. There are definitely viable Bronx neighborhoods that could, and would, support a Starbucks. Pelham Bay and Throgs Neck are two communities that come to mind. Here you have two of the most economically successful neighborhoods in the Bronx, and especially in Pelham Bay, a growing number of successful young professionals. In PB, The Buhre Ave stop off the 6 train where Buhre, Crosby, and Westchester Avenues meet would be an ideal location for a Starbucks. The neighborhood has many mid to upscale eateries, as well as a  brand new luxury high-rise co-op building down the block. Pelham Bay may be off the radar of Starbuck execs, but take a 30 minute (express) subway ride up the from midtown and you have a thriving and burgeoning community awaiting your arrival!

We would like Starbucks to open three stores in Salina Kansas, the Crossroads of America and Saline County seat. Our city population is over 47,000 and regionally Salina serves as the main business center for a twelve county area in north central Kansas. The first store would open at the N 9th St exit on I-70, the Interstate highway connecting Kansas City Missouri with Denver Colorado. The second would open in the Lee District, a 31-block business improvement district in the center of Salina. The third would open along S 9th St and W Magnolia Rd next to the Central Mall with nearby Kansas Wesleyan University, Brown Mackie College, and the Salina Airport. Thanks.

My vote for a new location is in Venice, FL at I-75 & Laurel Road (exit 195).  There is a new plaza there looking for tenants, and right around the corner is the Tervis tumbler headquarters (700+ employees).

Your Flushing, NY locations is wildly popular and successful. This neighborhood is about food, food, and food; but lacks decent coffee. There is a new food court (40+ stations) in New World Mall on Roosevelt Ave between Main St and Union St which is adjacent to one of the busiest subway stations in NYC.  There is also a huge restaurant on the 3rd floor which would allow customers to bring in drinks (I have).  I know food courts would logically have long hours of low flow of customers, but it is always packed.  There are a few drink stands but are all selling artificially flavored and over-sweetened drinks.  I think another Starbucks would complement this neighborhood.

Bring a Starbucks to Scottsburg, IN

There is not a Starbucks between Columbus, IN and St. Matthews, Louisville, KY.

Scottsburg is a great location with available properties right off I-65. There is currently one of the largest McDonalds in the Midwest at this exit and it's a great location to get off the interstate and grab a cup of coffee.

Scottsburg is becoming a city of tech jobs with the recent opening of the 12 million dollar science park. These new tech jobs need real coffee.

That is what you would have in this city.  Scottsburg is an easy- on, easy-off location on I-65.  It's also a community that is continuing to grow.  There are many opportunities to come in Scottsburg.  I know so many people in this city and county who would keep the store busy.  I am absolutely certain the store would get lots of business from interstate traffic and surrounding communities.  A drive-thru Starbucks would be key!  I only get my Starbucks about once a month or so...when I travel north about 45 miles.  I need a Starbucks closer than that.  :).

We have a new place in Washington, DC that's perfect on a main DC artery too.  Royce's Video at 7445 Georgia Avenue NW has just closed. Capital Realty is the owner.  I'm a neighbor who's lived in the area for over 30 years and its a perfect spot for a Starbucks.
