Treat Receipt

Hi everyone. This is Brad Stevens again. I received a ton of responses to my July 9 post about our summer value promotions, so I thought I’d tell you how we’re responding.

First, thanks for your candor. You weren’t shy about telling me where you thought we missed the mark. Some of you were disappointed that not every promotion was available everywhere, and others thought that there were too many variations to remember.

This feedback made us take a second look at the promotions and try to improve our approach for the remainder of the summer. One offer that generated a lot of positive feedback was our Treat Receipt promotion. So, we’re going to take it national beginning today.

Here’s how it works: customers who make any purchase in the morning will receive a “Treat Receipt” which is good for ANY $2 Grande Cold Beverage (plus tax, where applicable) after 2 p.m. This promotion is good through Sept 2. This means whether you’re a fan of Iced brewed coffee, a Frappuccino® blended beverage, a Vivanno™ nourishing blend, or any of our cold beverages, you can cool off at Starbucks in the afternoon and save a little money while you’re at it.

By the way, if we’re still running one of the other offers in your town, you’ll be able to enjoy that one too, until it expires. And remember, more than a million people have signed up for everyday values and some fun surprises (like the free Vivanno™ drinks we gave out to members on July 25 and 26) with Starbucks Card Rewards. Join them if you haven’t already. It’s a year-around way to get more value from Starbucks when you use your Starbucks Card.

Hopefully you will be able to take advantage of this national offer, but let me know what you think. We value your feedback and dialogue on this site.

Keep the ideas coming, and enjoy the rest of your summer.

Brad

So, I'm a partner, and I just wonder, do the receipts that customers bring in from Safeway stores and QFC stores count?  They are licensed, and they print on grocery store receipts.  A clear answer would be good.

Brad - My husband and I have been making great use of the $2 cold beverage promotion.  But please be aware that not all grande cold beverages are over $2.  A grande iced tea is $1.80.  And when I recently purchased a grande Vivanno and a grande iced tea, the employee tried to give me the $2 price on the iced tea.   One wouldn't think that training is required for this, but apparently it is.  Also, why is a special stamp required on the receipt when the date and time are clearly displayed?  My husband used a receipt that wasn't stamped and the employee did give him the $2 price, but warned him that he needed to make sure his receipt was stamped next time.

Momiji - I agree

I end up giving my receipts away because I'm don't do more than one Starbucks drink a day.

But why should I even need a receipt - why doesn't the cash register know that my starbucks card has been used earlier to make a purchase?

The "Treat Receipt" was a really great idea, but there's no way I can handle more than 1 Starbucks drink a day. Imagine getting a Tall in the morning and a Grande in the afternoon--there's a lot of calories and caffeine right there. I would either give the receipt away to a friend, or throw it away. I think customers should be able to get one in the next few days, or take Momiji's idea and do the buy 10 get 1 free card-better than nothing!

Personally I love the Treat Receipt and wished it did not end Sept. 2. :(  I get 1/2 caff in the afternoon.  The only thing I wish is that you could do it earlier than 2pm.  I'd love to be able to go at lunch time and get my iced mocha after I eat so I have dessert!  A lot healthier than those candy bars people are always eating at 2 or 3:00.

Please implement the Treat Receipt as a permanent fixture and change the time of day!

I love the treat receipt but I can only handle one cup a day.

Treat receipt should last forever. (Maybe being a hot drink in winter.) Without the treat receipt, I don't think I can rationalize the pm trip to Starbucks. Which will make me sad. And tired.

I agree with michellemarie, extend the treat receipt!

This was a neat way to bring people back in your stores. But most of the cold COFFEE drinks for a grande size are $2.25 or $2.50, so people are only saving a quarter or two. For me, yeah, I would totally come in for a discounted iced coffee if I needed or wanted one, but not to save a quarter.

But now I'm just reading that it is only a cold beverage. So, does this mean I could have had a grande frap for only 2 bucks. Somewhere I read or was told by a barista that it was only the cold coffee based drinks.

The $2 after 2PM is great! I often end up making a second trip to Starbucks just because of the offer.

I love the treat receipt - keep it going!  The stores in the Denver area are all letting me use it on hot drinks as well as cold.  I use my Starbucks card in the morning and save $0.70 then only have to pay $2 for the same drink in the afternoon.  Just can't make it in the afternoon some days which makes me sad.

Why does it have to just be cold drink? Can it be ANY grande drink, hot or cold? I don't really care for the cold drinks. I like the hot ones but was adviced only for cold drinks.

The treat receipt is brilliant, be interested to know if it is primarily creating more occasions or if it's providing loyal customers a nice bennie?
