Starbucks Summer Taste Tour

I’ve seen some ideas on the site about Starbucks adding coffee roasters to our stores. That would be so cool, to be able to walk in and smell the coffee roasting, see the chestnut brown beans pour into the cooling tray, and hear the pop of the transformed green bean - then be able to scoop your freshly roasted coffee to take home would be true icing on the cake.

The flavor of freshly roasted coffee is available thanks to our great flavorlock packaging, but alas the roaster experience is not available at our stores in part due to cost and building codes. This summer some of you may have seen our mobile roaster and experienced roasting coffee first hand at the Starbucks Summer Taste Tour. It has made stops in Dallas, Chicago, Denver, and soon to make an appearance in Seattle at the annual Bumbershoot Festival over Labor Day weekend.

Attendees have the opportunity to taste lots of coffees, learn more about the different inherent coffee flavors, and meet some of our coffee roasters in person. Let us know if any of you visited the Summer Taste Tour or if you would like us to stop in your town next summer.

I DO NOT AGREE, THE SMELL OF COFFEE MAKES ME SICK !!  NOT EVERYONE IS A COFFEE FAN, THERE ARE OTHER THINGS TO DRINK BESIDES COFFEE. SO, NO  I DON'T AGREE AT ALL. IF THIS IS DONE, I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN.

How about a couple of regional "Starbucks Experience" stores - like the Ghirardelli  flagship store/factory in San Francisco. You could make it  destination, with an on site roaster, a wide variety of coffee's, manual espresso machines, etc. People could taste what a difference fresh roasted coffee makes.

Make it an international experience.   We need a summer tour up here in Canada.  Come out with a new roast every summer.  Have people taste test and comment.  Compare responses from different capitals of the world like Rio de Janiero, San Francisco, London, Paris,

Vancouver.  Try to use that input for next summer's new coffee.

I think its a fantastick idea. can u imagin u walking down the high st. in a cold day and smell of coffee in the air will make u go and have one,  also some other retailers already using special smells which pump in to their stores to sell products.

Surely some of your properties would allow roasters.  Find a way to make your place smell like coffee.  When I walk into a coffee shop that smells like coffee, I realize what I am missing at Starbucks.  Smell and fresh roasted beans!
