New Home Page Features

In an effort to make MSI more user-centric, we launched a number of new features today on the home page.  Here is a rundown of the new goodness:

Question of the Day: This frequently-changing question will be a quick poll to the MSI community about topics you care about, or about you!  Today we’re curious how often you go to Starbucks.

Most Recent Ideas: With more than 65,000 ideas submitted so far and more coming in every hour, it’s a lot to keep track of.  Well, now you can see the 10 most recent ideas right on the home page.  Our other idea sorting views--Top All Time Ideas, Top Currently Popular Ideas, and a longer, clickable version of the Recent Ideas are all still available.

Leaderboard: We’re going to use this space to highlight users who have been the most active on the site.  The current version shows the screen names of the users who have submitted the most comments over the last 120 days.  Keep the comments coming…you can be on the leaderboard, too!

We’ve also given you a more concise view of the home page after you’ve logged in.  If you want to see the full version again, click “About This Site” from the main navigation bar or simply log out.

Finally, we’ve implemented some new technologies that should make the home page load faster and cleaner. Let us know what you think.

Cool features. How do we see the results from the question of the day?

I agree we need to see the results of the question of the day!

Cool stuff!

Now if the site would stop slowing/freezing I could post more!!!

Momiji - Please do post more! I am embarrassed at my post count!  And what's worse, the new leaderboard is static, so if someone gains the number one position, we won't know it, if and until, an MSI partner updates the leaderboard!

Great improvements. Way to go MSI team.

Now add grand repeat/similar Idea totals and you will be there.

Melody, OMG I thought I posted a lot.

brodave, I'm quite embarrassed by that, and I take it as a wake-up call not to post so much. No one needs to hear my 'two-cents' that much.  And I'm annoyed that it is a static leaderboard.

Melody, Please keep posting. Your opinions and insights are of enormous value to Starbucks and all of us that follow you. You and I don't always agree but I ALWAYS appreciate and respect your contributions. Just keep on keeping on.

I hear you on the poll results.  This was a quick feature we could either go live like this, or else wait for more.  I decided it was a good test.  And then I will publish the results of each one in a day or two.  Here are the results of the first poll question:

blogs.starbucks.com/.../poll-results-visit-frequency.aspx

I will also tag all the results entries with the "poll results" tag so pretty soon you'll be able to sort though just those in the tag cloud.

Agreed, Melody, don't you be embarrassed at all!  We're so happy to have you, and all of the top 10'ers here.  The site is immeasurably better off because of your involvement.

BTW, UrbanVoy:  you aren't top 10 for volume, but if there was a measure for quality, you'd be top 10 for sure.

Hayley, thanks for writing in!  See the comment above this one for how to find the results.

jjddrr:  Oh. My. Gosh.  I am terribly embarrassed.   As I say often, the only formal grammar I know is what I learned from Schoolhouse Rock, but I can usually spell.   Thanks for pointing that out.
