For-Here Serveware (Reusable Cups)

Many of you have let us know that you bring a reusable mug or tumbler to Starbucks to help reduce waste.  Another option to help with this effort is if you are staying in the store to enjoy your drink, we’d like to suggest letting us provide the cup – a “for-here” ceramic mug to be exact.  Many posts indicate that not everyone is aware that our company-operated stores have ceramic mugs for beverages enjoyed in the store.  Hopefully this will get the word out!  If everyone who stays in the store used a ceramic mug, we would save a tremendous amount of paper cups and really help the environment.

We don’t always have space in our stores to display our ceramic cups well, so that is probably why a lot of people don’t realize this is an option.  But just tell your barista your drink (or your pastry, because we have plates, too!) is for here, and they will be happy to make your drink in the ceramic cup.

This is something I do regularly. If I don't bring my own cup I often ask for a for here cup and /or plate. It would be nice if with each customer sale that the Barista would ask the customer if it is for here or to go. That hardly ever happens now.

I recently bought a travel cup that resembles your white cup with logo - it's great, doesn't leak, keeps my latte warm, etc.  However, I was disappointed that the order I gave for my drink today was written on an actual cup which was then thrown away.  That was the cup I was trying to save by bringing my own.  I have a couple of ideas and will submit them!

I haven't seen a store with ceramic mugs for in-store drinking in years. Does anyone know of any in New York City? Anyone?

1) I like this ceramic mug idea.  You can still bring your own cup in case you can't finish  =)

2)I will have to watch out 4 that unused cup going in the trash-thanks 4 the warning coffeebreak!

3)For here or to go- great idea G

If you've purchased the tumbler that has the applicable drink indicator boxes, then a barista can use the chalk markers in-store to mark your tumbler and you don't even have to waste the marking paper!!!

I'm so happy that people are actively concerned about the amount of waste that goes on.

Perhaps if you offered a discount or cumulative discount for ceramic use people may ask for them more.  If you use few cups and those little sleeves, your cost savings to the environment and company can be passed on to the consumer.

I love using the ceramic ware.  It makes my drink more enjoyable.  There's something romantic about all that foamy cappuccino goodness in a simply elegant mug!

When I lived in Vienna VA and Starbucks first opened there (early/mid 90's), they displayed the ceramic mugs (and plates) and always asked if your order was for here or 'to go'.  It as actually an attraction for me, along with the coffee. I always ask when I go to a Starbucks for a mug and I usually bring my own if I am 'travelling'.  I actually avoid some Starbucks because they don't have or don't want to deal with the ceramic mugs.  I hate my coffee (and any drink) in paper, especially if I'm sitting in the place!  I was just at the Starbucks in my town and they do have ceramic (although you have to ask and I think I am one of the few that even know mugs exist).  They were 'out' and that isn't because the seven people in the store were using them.  Obviously your commitment to 'social responsibility and green living' is more promotion as this is a pretty simple idea that existed when you came east...I do hope you live up to your words and bring it back and let people know.  Also, bins or a place for dirty ceramic needs to be available as I think most people would be happy to 'clean up' after themselves so someone else can sit at a clean spot.

Sorry it sounds angry, but I am annoyed.

Thanks for listening.

I never knew that sit-in customers may opt to have their drinks served in ceramic mugs. Can't Starbucks put a message near the counter that explicitly states this option (and the benefits this would have for the environment)?
