A Note from Starbucks Access Alliance

Hi there,

I am an Idea Partner here at Starbucks working in the marketing department.  I do have another role here in the company and that is being the co-president of the Starbucks Access Alliance (SAA).  The SAA is a great network of people here at Starbucks whose mission is to promote equal access for all partners and customers.  We connect with each other around disability issues and keep the concept of accessibility and universal design at the forefront of our daily work.

As I was going through the site and saw the Your Employees idea, it got me thinking about how proud I am to work for Starbucks. This isn’t the first time I have heard a story similar to this one.  What really strikes me is that this company has a lot of soul and simply sees people as human beings.

We hear about a variety of groups that like to meet in our stores. Everyday we are trying to improve their Starbucks experience and implement a more universal store design.  Take our lowered hand off planes as an example.  It makes picking up your drink easier for everyone, including people who use wheelchairs, people of short stature, and the baristas handing you your drink too.

Last month each of the stores received a Braille and Large Print version of the “Make It Your Drink” brochure.  They are in every one of our stores across the U.S.

I must say that I am very proud to work at Starbucks and I am excited to see what we will do in the future.  We know we have done some great things but there is still a long way to go…

Thanks again for sharing!

Leigh

So, just for the heck of it, I stopped at my 3 favorite Starbucks today and NONE were aware of the "Make it Your Drink" brochures.

Great idea, poor execution.

Are they on the counter or do they need to be asked for?

I REALLY like this. I know they will come in handy.

HOT DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I asked about these today and they had it! LOL

Leigh, did y'all think about letting the schools for blind and AARP know about this? I'm sure the blind community and senior citizens would appreciate it.

I did see this brochure for the blind, unfotunately it was behind the POS. I hope that there are some patrons that will be able to use it.  I know that there are many people that have a difficult time seeing the menu and feel uncomfortable taking a while to figure out what they want.  I'm sure that it will come in handy if they are more accessible to patrons.

This is a great start - but there is no way anyone with a hearing aids can order at most of the counters due to all the counter activity and multiple conversations going on. Please consider some counter hearing loop system for those individuals that wear heaing aids. Check out www.contactainc.com. There are millions of hearing aid wearers who love a good cup of coffee. Thank you

Not only do I love Starbucks coffee, but also love the atmosphere!

There are 2 Starbucks in Edmonton, (Alberta, Canada) I frequent, that have inspired me to paint pictures that capture the unique ambiance of Starbucks. I am a commercial artist and would love to show you my paintings. Is this possible?

I work in the Northern Virginia area and I need to get this off my chest - I have lost respect for Starbucks "the company" , it seems to me the company has been firing experienced managers and assisted managers and replacing with folks with little or no experience.  Do you realize what you are doing to the partners that are left behind?  Do you care?  What happened to the company who cared for and assisted their hard working employees?

I would like to acknowledge our manager. She came into s Starbucks that I had only visited twice because the place was dirty, the employees were cutting up with each other and never really being serious.

Then I saw a change. There were more cars in the parking lot, people were actually sitting outside talking, so I thought I would give it one last try. I went in to our Starbucks, and it was TOTALLY different.

I heard there was a new manager named Christy, and she really cleaned up the place.

I can not say enough about our store manager we have now!!! She has gotten the store involved in city events to help different organizations, has a great crew, and really listens to the ideas the customers have to say.

I am so glad we have her!!!

Thank You for blessing us,

P.S. Please bring back the chocolate donuts.

The recent Starbuck web alliance with Yahoo is troubling. For one, at the Boston area store sites in Harvard Sq. and Davis Sq. Yahoo HIJACK's the Starbucks Homepage falsely telling users that they are not properly logged in to secure personal data, Or credit for Yahoo's Corporate gain. Second, Yahoo's top management is now controlled by former FOX NEWS Executives whom have undermined Yahoo's prior independent news reporting with Republican slanted BS views, that are inconsistent with the Majority of Starbucks customers.

Starbucks has a feel good, healthy and keepin it real atmosphere worldwide. The Starbucks Marketing decision to form an alliance with a biased Rupert Murdoch organization has already undermined STARBUCKS CORE VALUES and ATT internet service.

Best regards and success,
