Earth-friendly Tumblers

Many of the ideas on My Starbucks Idea are about ways we can help reduce our environmental footprint by using a reusable cup.
Reusable Cups
Reuse, Recycle
Reduce paper cup usage

Now available at Starbucks are earth-friendly tumblers made with a minimum of 27% recycled material.  Starting on January 3, these tumblers will be available in all Starbucks hot beverage sizes: 8, 12, 16, and 20 ounces.  They even come with a coupon for a free hand-crafted beverage – another idea shared here at MSI.

You can take action to reduce your environmental footprint by taking the mug pledge at www.starbucks.com/sharedplanet.  Each time you bring in your own reusable cup, we’ll knock $0.10 off your drink price.

This is great news C!!  You know I'm a huge fan of using your own personal cup!

^ Just for fun. :-)

If any here is very enthusiastic about using their own tumbler (I know I am!), you can join others with the same commitment to reducing their environmental footprint by joining a V2V action thread.

I brought in a tumbler to my local starbucks this morning in Castro San Francisco.  I asked for a Tall... so the Brista measured the coffee using a Tall cup and pour the coffee into my tumbler.  Immediately after that he trashed the tall cup (a clean cup just used to measure how much coffee to pour into my cup...

How cheap and wasteful is that?? WOW... also I didn't get my 10cents saving either... although I got my gold card 10% off.

Hmmm, if people REALLY cared about being earth-friendly, maybe ya should not be driving to and buying coffee from starbucks . . . make your own coffee at home, and use a mug - genius! Ya need to find other causes people, u aint going to be on the planet long; how about feed some homeless, here in the US??

Really gsyrpes? You should turn off the internet and use the money you save to feed homeless if you are that concerned.

They are trying to help in a different way. Who says most of the time we don't make coffee at home already? Calm down.

Got the Earth Friendly green tumbler as my secret santa gift from work (I asked for it! WOOT!) and love it, especially the 'different' lid on it. Glad to see there will be more to come, especially in bigger sizes.

I have been using my own mug for years.  I am also the one who take the Venti plastic cold drink cups back to  my next drink and have started taking the papercups back as well.  Each is good for several drinks.  I am happy to hear there will be a Venti Size available for my hot drinks.  How about one for the cold (24 oz) drinks?

The 10Cent payback is a good feature.  Too bad it isn't always given.  I take this savings and put into a jar (along with the payback I get for grocery and other shopping bags) and put it into a jar.  At Christmas time this money goes a local charity.

I am thrilled that you are demonstrating your responsiveness to input from customers. Travel mugs made with some percentage of recycled materials and in all sizes covers different requests for environmentally friendly practices and larger mug sizes. Thanks for listening and acting on it.

A Venti for the cold drinks really needs to be the next project towards creating less waste. As it is, I bring home my venti cup and wash it out thoroughly and then bring it back for my next visit, but neither the #1 nor the new #5 flexible plastic is really made for that -- it would be huge to have a venti cold cup (the 23-24 ounce size) like the grande ones you sold last summer. I look forward to it! (The one other issue to consider as you design the tumblers -- which  makes me reluctant to get one of the new venti hot tumblers -- is the opening. The odd twist opening on these new ones seems like it would be very difficult to get it really clean if you had milky beverages in it -- and very east to end up with the whole cup opening rather than just the top portion to make it drinkable.)

The lid leaks! :(  Very disappointed with this mug.

I would love to see the iced, to go tumbler back in stores. It looks like the iced drink cups with the green straws. I have one from last year, but it has wear and tear and I would love a new one. Please bring them back in time for summer!

I totally agree with the previous person. The tumbler with the green straws was so neat. Please bring them back again! Love those!!
