Happy New Year from the Food Team!

After enjoying our tasty holiday treats, we are ready to jump into the New Year, full of fresh ideas. One popular idea is for Starbucks to offer more gluten-free options.

We’ve started doing some operational testing in a select number of our stores and the baristas & customers who participated were psyched about the idea. One barista shared, “Out of all the tests we’ve done, this one feels like we’re doing the most for the customer!” Before we continue moving forward, we would love some feedback from you about what you want to see in gluten-free offerings.

Here are a few questions we have for you:

• What specific gluten-free products would you like to see in our stores?
• Would you prefer to see it individually packaged or unpackaged?
• How would you like to learn we have gluten-free products? For example, would you like to see it on a sign or would you prefer the barista tell you?
• Where would you like to see gluten-free products in the store; in the pastry case or placed elsewhere?
• The ingredient costs of gluten-free products tend to be higher, so would you understand if we charged more for the gluten-free version?

We appreciate your feedback and are excited to continue moving gluten-free forward.

In regards to packaged food products, we currently offer a gluten-free Amaretti Cookie available on the retail shelves. We continue to explore what other fresh food and packaged food to offer at Starbucks.  Thanks for sharing your ideas.

Cheers,
Starbucks Food Team

Would love to see gluten choices in the pastry counter...but mostly gluten free choices in the frozen and iced drinks.

•  I would LOVE a gluten free english muffin, bagel  or even toast...the most basic things that go with my morning coffee that I can never get on the go and only have at home (from the grocery store frozen food section!)...and cookies, cake or pie for my afternoon evening sugar/caffeine stoke.

• I don't care how you package it. as long as I can have it! :)

• Signs are best. been misinformed by the uniformed too many times and getting sick is no fun. :(

• Put'em where we can see em...post a sign somewhere  near order counter saying what gluten free items are avail in case I was too caffiene needy to notice them elsewhere.

• I'll pay more to stay healthy and have something I can eat safely!

• What specific gluten-free products would you like to see in our stores?

pastries, sandwiches, breakfast items.  stuff that actually tastes like real food (the valencia cake was AWESOME and no one even knew it was gf unless they were looking for it)

• Would you prefer to see it individually packaged or unpackaged?

both. i'm sick of eating solely prepackaged food as snacks in cafes.  i'd love for there to be a gf shelf at the very top of the pastry case with special tongs, etc.

• How would you like to learn we have gluten-free products? For example, would you like to see it on a sign or would you prefer the barista tell you?

on a sign.  my baristas know i'm gf, but not all customers with cd tell them.

• Where would you like to see gluten-free products in the store; in the pastry case or placed elsewhere?

both!  i love the chips you've already got, but i'd love pastry case things as well as sandwiches with gf bread.  and honestly, it wouldn't be hard to make your yogurt and granola gf, please do so!

• The ingredient costs of gluten-free products tend to be higher, so would you understand if we charged more for the gluten-free version?

yes and no.  you already mark stuff up quite a bit (let's not kid ourselves, 1.95 for a cookie?), so i don't see why your making a little less money for a few gf products would be too much of a stretch.  also, gf isn't THAT expensive (in fact, if it's corn-based a lot of it becomes LESS expensive) if you're buying your flours in bulk and mixing them yourselves (trust me, i bake a lot).  on the other hand, you can take advantage of being the only larger coffee chain that has gf items in a pastry case.

Thank you for considering gluten free products!  I prefer GF signage.  Easier on the staff as well.  I so miss eating your yummy blueberry scones, so that would be my vote for a GF product. I'd also like to know if all the coffee flavors are GF...hard to tell.  As for packaged/non-packaged GF foods, you're probably going to have less of a cross-contamination risk if it's packaged. As a RN and loyal customer, I appreciate your awareness!

I would love to see gluten-free soy milk, corn tortilla breakfast wraps, and some fresh bakery items like cupcakes and coffee cake. I think advertising would be wise and a brochure listing food allergens would be helpful.

Please label gluten free items - I want to be able to make choices. Also, any gluten free items would be appreciated. I recently found out that I must go gluten free and I don't know how I am going to not be able to eat blueberry bars any longer. I would love to have gluten free blueberry bars!
