Sugar-free Update

Hi Friends,

I’d like to thank you all for your continued interest and requests for additional sugar-free options at Starbucks. We are considering alternate sweeteners and optimizing our current syrup line-up.  Currently, we carry Sugar-free Caramel, Hazelnut, and Vanilla.  We are working on a couple of new products we hope to share with you this spring.  Keep the ideas coming!

In the meantime, I want to share some new ways to try the sugar-free syrups we have available right now. Sugar-free syrups can be a great addition to a variety of drinks on our menu including lattes, which many of you have already tried. Following are some of my favorite ways to use our three sugar-free syrups (Caramel, Vanilla and Hazelnut) in beverage customizations.

• Sugar-free Vanilla tastes great in place of vanilla syrup in a Caramel Macchiato.
• Try blending various ratios of sugar-free syrups with regular syrups such as a half Sugar-free Hazelnut and half regular Hazelnut syrup in a Latte to save calories and sugar. Or, try substituting Sugar-free Hazelnut syrup in place of regular Hazelnut syrup in a Hazelnut Mocha.
• Substituting Sugar-free syrup in place of regular syrup in a Frappuccino® Blended Coffee or Crème is great too! My favorite is Caramel Frappuccino® blended coffee made with Sugar-free Caramel syrup.
• Don’t forget, sugar-free syrup is yummy in iced coffee and tea too!

As you can see, there are lots of customizations available and whether you’re looking to reduce calories or lower sugar content, sugar-free syrup can be a great addition to your beverage. For example, one pump of regular syrup can add about 20 calories and five grams of sugar, but one pump of our sugar-free syrups contains 0 calories and 0 grams of sugar. This is because they are made with sucralose (Splenda®), a non-caloric sweetener. Over time, the calories and sugar saved can add up, so go ahead and try them out and keep the great ideas for the future coming!
Cheers,

sbx_kg

I was very disappointed to find that you didn't offer the sugar free gingerbread syrup this year.  I would like to see more sugar free syrup offerings.

Hi _sbx_kg,

I don't use sugar free syrups but I can see why people would want more varieties. I do hope some more will be added.

Also, why are you _sbx_ and not sbx_ ?

is sugar free cinnamon dolce not a national syrup?  it's the best to me!

I was also wondering why no mention of the sugar-free Cinnamon Dolce.  I use that one on occasion, but the sugar-free vanilla is my favorite.  I'd really really like to see a sugar-free pumpkin spice and sugar-free peppermint.  And a sugar-free mocha that tastes a little better than last time would be great too :o)

At least in Canada, sugar-free cinnamon dolce is still offered as a core syrup.  I also heard many people upset about the lack of sugar-free gingerbread this year (myself included!).

The next one I would like to see is sugar-free classic!

I would love to see sugar free CHAI!!  it must be a popular drink, with the new varieties coming out...  but how about sugar free??  Ever since I cut sugar drastically 4-ish years ago, I miss chai!!

Before you bring the SAME flavors we already have in the sugar-free option, we should have more choices in flavors.  There are many customers who are missing their favorite flavor (almond, coconut, Valencia seem to be most talked about on here).  I vote for almond (non-sugar-free)!

a lot of customers at my store were very very upset this past holiday launch that you did not bring back sugar free gingerbread syrup, they also would have liked to have had a sugar free eggnog  put out too.oh well, maybe next holiday we'll see them????

For those of us watching our carbs, it would be great if you had a low carb 'milk' option - there are many 1g carb soy milk products in natural, vanilla and chocolate.

Also, I would definitely agree on the sugar free chai. The brand you use Tazo makes a sugar free chai - I can buy it at the Home Economist - so it would be great to see it offered in the stores!

And finally, all those yummy breakfast items - none of them are low carb - could we get some wraps with the current meat, cheese, egg, spinach contents but on a low carb hi grain wrap?

Thanks for listening! I love Starbucks - I go every day at least once - our local baristas call me out on the street by my drink of choice name - I love Starbucks!!! Oh, I said that already. :)

I agree with the comment that I think our customers AND partners would definitely love to see the return of valencia. That could set a return for one of the most classic drinks in Starbucks history: The Mocha Valencia!

look into DaVinci Gourmet syrups. TONS of sugar free options! and they taste amazing!

and if possible add in some low carb options like 0 carb whipping cream instead of just milks and soy. this would be great for diabetics and low carb'ers craving that Starbucks kick!

Interesting I did not know that you were offering sugar free syrups. At my two stores I have never seen this mentioned (Mclean Va company store and an office building licensed store in MD).

I have never asked for a "flavor" syrup added to drink - because I have a very low opinion of corn-syrup which is what I assume those are made from. I would consider a Splenda based product at least periodically to add variety to my orders.

What about Hershey's regular or dark chocolate cocoa powder.  I was surprised to find out how few calories they are and now make my home made mochas and hot chocolate from it ... then I add spenda to taste!  A GREAT sugar free treat!!

I would love to have a sugar free frap.  I have missed these drinks since being diagnosed with diabetes.  Also, there are SO MANY sugar free alternatives out there that taste just as good as the sugar versions.  More options would be fantastic.

I would like a sugarfree classic syrup. I normally get a doubleshot on ice and substitute sugarfree vanilla for the regular classic ...it would be nice if a sugarfree classic were available as then Iwouldn't always have to have a certain flavor. I'd also try the new tea lattes (hot or iced as well as the shaken lemonades and such)if I could get it with a sugarfree version of classic. I realize I can order it unsweetened and addpackets of Splenda but with a sugarfree classic syrup , there's a better consistency and no undissolved granules in a cold drink.

A completely sugarfree frappuccino, hot chocolate, and lemonade would be perfect as well...

I just wanted to add my support as well for the return of the sugar-free gingerbread.  I was so disappointed that it did not appear last season.  Sugar-free chai would also be awesome, and sugar-free pumpkin spice would ROCK MY WORLD!

It would be awesome to diabetics or people that can't have sugar for whatever reason to have th same choices as non-diabetics. The carb amounts in regular drinks are just too high. They can take up your carb count for the day in just ONE drink. Which is really disappointing. I actually cried the day I realized I couldn't have Starbucks Frapp's anymore.

I love that you have the sugar free syrups. But I am not fond of most of the flavors. I miss the seasonal flavors, and I miss toffee nut. I was also extremely disappointed when you took away the sugar free mocha as one of our choices. It wasn't wonderful, but it wasn't terrible either. And it was nice to have one more choice - especially for those who LOVE chocolate (even dark chocolate may be a fantastic alternative). I never thought there would be this many people behind it, but maybe that may change your mind.

Please think of us as you regular customers who don't like to drink their coffee plain. I promise to become a loyal customer again. Thank you.

While sugar free syrups are fine, Starbucks needs sugar free chocolate, white chocolate and caramel.  I now have to consume less sugar and have had to abandon my fav Carmel Macchiato and now get sugar free mochas at Caribou, Scooters or Peet's - all of which have sugar free mochas on their menu.  Please add them so I can come back!!

Hi,

We have a bakery in San Jose called C'est Si Bon Bakery and we produce a range of unique bite-size cookies that are great for coffee and tea. More importantly we specialize in sugar-free and wheat free cookies made with natural sugar alternatives that are ideally suited for Diabetics as well as health conscious consumers. These products are all natural and we see a great potential for them to be introduced at Starbucks.

I need help in reaching the right people at Starbucks to help us introduce our products. I am also very interested in getting feedback from customers about their interest in Sugar free or wheat free products such as Biscottis, Almond cookies, etc.

Thank you ---- Mark Z

The more you can advertse that you offer products that are allergy free and are also healthy you'll draw in a crowd of us who can't go out anywhere else!!

I need gluten, yeast, dairy, soy and sugar free and also can't have the "fake" sugars.  Please consider the new sweetner called stevia.  It is also awesome for diabetics.

Sugar free Chai Latte syrup PLEASE!!!!!  It has so many calories and sugar that I just can't purchase it often.  How many people in how many ways need to suggest it before someone listens.  Oregon Chai has a sugar free syrup.  Don't like it, but they have one.  Why can't Tazo have one too?

Regarding Sugar-Free Chai... I order two chai bags brewed with soy-milk and then add Splenda. It's so sweet and yummy, without all the extra calories.

Does any one know the exact calorie count for all sizes of Soy Caramel Macchiato with Surgar Free Vanilla syrup? Unless I missed it, the nutrition info in Starbucks website only had the milk choice. I know for a fact that the calorie count is lower if a sugar free vanilla us used. Thanks.

I use to be a Barrista and from talking to a lot of my family and friends, the biggest requests are:  1) BRING BACK VALENCIA!  & 2) HAVE MORE SUGAR FREE OPTIONS -  Especially the holiday flavors - Gingerbread, Pumpkin & Peppermint!!   And unfortunately, to respond to the person who wants sugar free eggnog, it's not a syrup, they use a milk-to-eggnog ratio mix of milks - so unless you bring your own sugar free/fat free eggnog milk with you, it's going to contain fat & sugar.  However, you can ask them to mix the eggnog with skim milk on-the-spot and not use their premix.

12/8/2009 6:35 PM

I would love to have the holiday flavors in sugar free.  I think it goes well with the 'health' craze. You could also find a lower cal, lower fat option rather than just sugar free.  That may cater to consumers asking for a lower calorie/fat drink. Also just a side note, the sugar free syrups seem sweeter than regular so the drinks usually taste better with fewer pumps then the regular syrups.

I agree - please with the sugar free Tazo Chai concentrate!!!

I am currently drinking a grande non-fat sugar-free vanilla chai misto with one tea bag and it's good...but not as good as a Chai Latte.  I was recently diagnosed pre-diabetic so I really need to watch my sugar intake now too and am just starting to explore my options at Starbucks and am finding them rather limiting as well...

I was in my local World Market today and saw many of the sugar free syrups in the Torani brand.  I don't know if they are new or old stock; but I know I think I saw SF pumpkin spice, SF almond, SF chocolate,SF gingerbread(?),etc. You can also order Torani off the internet even for less than in the store, shipping may even out though. Hope this post helps some off you.

I have been to several other coffee shops that carry the same brand of syrups that Starbucks does; they have SEVERAL yummy flavors to choose from, and whenever I ask what the sugar free options are, they say they are the same!

I love sugar-free toffee, sugar-free irish cream, sugar- free pumpkin, sugar-free PEPPERMINT and sugar-free *experiment a new flavor* lattes!

This could definitely be profitable for Starbucks.

How's this for an IDEA???

For those of us that are diabetics or gastric by-pass patients...how about a sugar-free, low-sugar coffee/tea menu?  That way, those of us who can't have sugar, will have a creative sugar-free choice in our drinks....(I really LOVE my Hot, Non-fat, Green-Tea Latte's with Splenda!)  It's a thought!?
