Breakfast Pairings

Value is one of the more popular themes we’ve seen on My Starbucks Idea - from Daily Specials to Happy Hours, to Lower Your Prices.  In response to our customers’ ideas and requests, Starbucks will begin offering Breakfast Pairings for $3.95 on March 3, in continental U.S. company-operated stores.  Starbucks pairings combine a tall, handcrafted Caffè Latte or tall, fresh Brewed Coffee with some of our popular breakfast items.  These pairings will be available all day and provide customers with an average savings of as much as $1.20, and with 100 percent ethically-traded coffee and high quality ingredients, the pairings offer a value beyond price.  Two new artisan breakfast sandwiches will debut as part of the pairings.

Starbucks pairings include:
• Tall Caffè Latte paired with:
        - Starbucks® Perfect Oatmeal
        - Reduced-fat Cinnamon Swirl Coffee Cake

• Tall Fresh Brewed Coffee paired with:
        - Sausage Breakfast Sandwich
        - Reduced-fat Turkey Bacon Breakfast Sandwich
        - NEW Artisan Bacon Sandwich
a flavorful bakery-style sandwich made with a parmesan egg frittata, smoked bacon slices, and Gouda cheese.
        - NEW Artisan Ham Sandwicha delightful combination made with a parmesan egg frittata, Black Forest ham, and mild cheddar.

Breakfast Pairings = McValue Meals

Where do I pick up the toy?

It definitely is McBucks now. Crappy coffee, cheap soy milk, and now McValue meals. I wonder if they'll let you Supersize that for a Grande Latte for a $1 more??

This will work for me as I get such combos now. I still would like a better decaf than PP decaf and have it available all day. The competitors prices are still better, the decaf is available and the sandwiches are made from scratch!

I will definetly take advanatge of this deal!  Thanks!    I was hoping the tall latte can be pair with any type of cake  :)  but I understand you want to keep this simple.

Anyways, good idea!

What happens for those of us that drink tea? And I also notice that the new sandwiches have meat so how about a new sandwich for vegetarians?

Having worked in marketing for a food concept, I know how hard it is to make people happy. Thanks for adding options for those who are interested.

purple1, I agree.  I would love to see a tea pairing, as well as a vegetarian sandwich option.  I know that it is difficult to please every for sure.  I know the baristas at my local store are already grumbling about people asking for substitutions.

I agree that it is quite difficult to please everyone, however, it seems that some of the customer base is being left behind so to speak. I have yet to figure out why it is so difficult for corporate to offer rewards to reach all the customer base. And I am sure people will be complaining about this new program.

It would be better to just lower prices in the current economic climate.

Suggestion, instead of tying this deal to either a Tall Brewed Coffee or a Latte why not make it any compairable drink (if drink cost more then $X) like a Cappucino, etc. Tying it to brewed coffee or Latte limits those who will take advantage of the offer. I buy espresso drinks and your breakfast stuff but alas I dont drink your brewed coffee's nor a Latte. If I speand more then the cost of a Tall Brew then I should get the same offer.

Hey bean are you hoping ppl will want to drink PPR more now that there is a value menu?

I read an article about McD's sales going up. I am gonna guess its because of their new McCafe's. While I am not a fan of McD's, their coffee offerings cost almost 1/2 as mush as Starbucks AND you don't have to haggle with a employee to get the damn coffee! Go figure!

Tim Hortons, again no haggling and costs less.

Peets, the same.

Mom and pop shops with hand pulled shots even give no haggling and cost the same or less.

Guess where the customers are going??????

“Parings” is a start.

At least Starbucks has come to the realization that the reason their same-store sales have been dropping like a rock for the past four fiscal years is because McDonalds, Dunkin’ Donuts, et al are kicking their rear-ends.

Realizing that even the Royal and Arrogant Starbucks must compete, maybe they will at last listen to the multitudes of former customers and discontinue pikes puke, serve bold drip coffee all day every day, offer truly free wifi, fix their dribble cups, clean their stores (and restrooms), offer friendly service, etc. Maybe they will but I doubt it. I think that the corporate management is far too isolated and inept to actually be competitive.

+1 more for meat-free sandwich

What about a combo with the Spinach Feta Wrap? I'm sure that would be a Blockbuster!

I didn't see if this was answerd before but I work at a store that does not offer any of those sandwiches that are paired with the latte.  What will be offered instead?

Porkchawp
2/12/2009 1:57 AM

Well I work at a store and to answer a few questions.

1) If you don't eat meat buy the Reduced-fat Turkey Bacon Breakfast or the Sausage and just ask to have it taken off.

2) If you're not a coffee drinker and want tea, just ask 99.9% will say yes. The only time I could think a someone would say no is if they're new.

And I think why Starbucks is doing this is because  ppl aren't spending as  much as they did around this time last year. They're not becoming like McDonald's  they're are think how to get ppl feeling better about spending.

Hmmmmm last year is when Pike Place Roast launched.........

I bet they have been losing tons of money due to PPR. Yet Starbucks can't admit they made a mistake.

I do not think we who are vegetarians have to order a sandwich with meat and ask them to take it off. It is not as simple as that. I would not trust that there was not any meat left in the sandwich. As regards to asking for tea instead of coffee, ok that is an option but why can't they just include tea or coffee as an option from the beginning? Another way it seems that corporate is not looking at the customer base.

Lowering prices and getting rid of PP would be better. As a vegetarian , I''m also dismayed that Starbucks offer only meat filled sandwiches (why not two meat, two without?).  These are pre-made so there will be meat on the sandwich come what may. Also, enough with the parmesan/feta--why not cheddar instead? I know you are aiming for a more elite breakfast but neither of these says breakfast to me and both are a strong flavor of a kind that many people don't like. I find parmesan revolting, and feta too. These sandwiches are for people who like meat, parmesan and feta. I'd occasionally get an egg and cheddar cheese sandwich with a decaf bold drip (especially when traveling) but of course, that's not an option.  If you are going to offer sandwiches, don't just cater to one limited palatte. Offer parmesan, feta and meat, but offer another kind of sandwich for vegetarians and a frittata with cheddar instead of parmesan.

I love pairings, the only fustration will be that, they seem to run out of sandwiches during lunch so hopefully this wont happen at breakfast.

I want non sweet items, croissants dissapear, what about a brioche, a simple roll, portuguese pao de queijo (cheese bread) or check the multiple choices @ Juan Valdes (pandequeso, pandeyuca, bunuelo), I don't want a glaced cookie.

Why aren't there any vegan options?

All the sandwiches have meat, and the one cinnamon cake which does not have meat has milk (in the latte)!

I like that idea, it would also be nice if you added tea pairings and a couple more latte pairings.

Tea pairings would be great. One of my own personal favorite pairings is refresh tea with a small chocolate brownie cookie. 80 calories well spent!

This is a great idea offering breakfast sandwiches hopefully this will be available in upstate NY. I have enjoyed then in Maryland and think it would be a great idea for upstate NY. I don't like going to the "other stores" first for breakfast then Starbucks for coffee. It would be nice to go to one store!

Breakfast pairings should be more flexible.  I personally like Latte but I dont necessarily want to have cinnamon coffee cake nor oatmeal with my drink.     I like the other food choices with the brewed coffee but I have not ordered brewed coffee from Starbucks.

Can Starbucks just allow customers to pair their food & drink then discount it by $1.00 or so if they get combo?  That way, we can chose if we want Tall, Grande, Venti and be encourage to buy food with the drink as well.    Thanks!

While I really enjoy the Reduced-fat Turkey Bacon sandwich, I hate the cost of buying one and an iced latte. When I saw the Pairings idea, I thought, "Wow, finally." Then I kept reading. Why offer unhealthy pairs together? A latte and a cinnamon roll? Come on! Long live iced lattes and low-fat, lower carb options!

Can a store offer a Latte (add mocha or Chia) and give a those with a pairing for the same price?  I happen to know some stores are doing this and other are not.

ADD TEA LATTES.

I'm tired or feeling as if I don't count as a Starbucks customer only because I drink tea instead of coffee.

If you're promoting "Tea Time" (which I love!!) remain consistent!

Please add cappuccinos to the pairings also. Not everybody like lattes. They have way too much milk in them.

I tried your "Perfect Oatmeal" because of the pairing idea.  The first time I tried it, it WAS perfect!  So I decided to order again - only to be sorely disappointed.  The third time was the same.  It was runny and, basically, uneatable.  How about a STANDARD for each store where they measure the amount of water they put in the oatmeal???  I have watched them just "eye" the water which does not make "Perfect" oatmeal.  Trust me.  It's been wrong twice now.  I'll try it again next time I eat IN; this way, I can take it back if it's not right.

Love the oatmeal with my Macchiatto {sp.}.   Great before a road trip and was perfect after my fasting blood test before Pilates.  Have been disappointed only once when the raisin combo was out.

Great idea.

I really do like the idea but you got to remember that not everone goes for coffee. I like a chai tea or maybe even a cup of tea that's from a bag so I dont drink coffee I miss out on a good deal so when I want breakfast go somewhere else. Please think of the non coffee people that come in,

Thanks Mary

So what happened to the Pairings -- not available at my regular Starbucks today.

IDCuffs
5/4/2010 4:56 AM

They are not available here either! It was a ritual for me...with the risk of sounding cheap, the little discount for the pairing made the overall daily investment worthwhile...I thought the pairing was a regular part of the offering rather than a promotion...has this been discontinued?...since they were so heavily promoted, it would have been nice if the employees at least knew they were being discontinued?!?!?
