Green Tumbler w/free drink coupon

Beginning today, StarbucksStore.com now offers Starbucks green recycled-plastic tumblers (made from at least 27% post consumer recycled material). These tumblers are tough and available in a nice “green” color that complements our Organic Shade Grown Mexico and Organic Serena Blend™ coffee.  I especially enjoy the Organic Shade Grown Mexico as it reminds me of a trip to Cabo San Lucas and drinking a rich cup of coffee in the morning as the sun comes up, right before it’s comfortable to attend beach festivities. The Organic Serena Blend™ is made with both African and Latin American coffees – much heartier than Organic Shade Grown Mexico and very nice iced (if I was sitting in Cabo).

Visit www.starbucksstore.com to purchase these recycled tumblers and we’ll throw in a coupon (good through June 30, 2009) for a complimentary tall beverage at participating stores.  Organic Shade Grown Mexico and Organic Serena Blend™ coffee are also available online.

Cheers!

Can you guys please source more products that are made in America?  I don't feel comfortable drinking cheap tumblers that made in developing or thrid world countires.  Usually the product quality is not very good.

BTW, I don't like the new recycle tumbler.  It's hard to unscrew and drink on the go.

I bought one of those a few weeks ago at my local Starbucks. I thought the new lids were pretty neat, until I tried to sip my Café Mocha. The whipped cream blocked anything from getting through. Kind of a bummer. I haven't used it since.

I bought one of the green tumblers and immediately regretted it. On top of it having an awkward lid, the number of ounces it hold is NOT marked on the bottom, like other Starbucks tumblers have. That's very frustrating to me. I don't want to argue with a barista over whether my tumbler is a tall or a grande. There is already too much going on at the register, and it's very nice for me to be able to say, in an innocent tone of voice, "Hey, I saw that it says 12 ounces on the bottom!"

I'm disappointed at whomever thought to launch tumblers without a size indication anywhere on them.

I agree with Melody. I bought a 20 oz. The top makes it a dribble cup, the insulation is terrible (my ice always melts too fast) and the plastic leaves the bad taste in the coffee.

I'm going back to my stainless mug. It's only 16 ox, but the ice keeps for 5+ hours, it has a hole and no plastic after taste.

What I would like:

- a hole in the top for a straw

- a glass or ceramic liner

- good insulation

- 20-24 oz (so I can have  venti with lots of ice.)

So far, I've had good experiences with the green tumbler.  For the price (back when it was selling in stores in December and it was on sale) and given the drink coupon, it was worth it.  And I found myself using the tumbler in other situations, often saving on styrofoam cups, which made it even more worth it.

I haven't had the drink size issue as I've used the tumbler in stores.  Usually, I just hand them the tumbler and order a tall drink (it's just barely over 12 ounces if filled up to the brim), and they don't ask any questions.

I do agree, though, that I haven't been a big fan of the "sippy cup" lid.  It's great for keeping my tumbler closed when it gets tossed around in the car of backpack.  But if I'm sitting somewhere, I just take the lid off to drink my drink.

Insulation... yes, that is a problem.  I can feel how hot the outside gets, and it warms my hands... but that just tells me that the drink inside is getting colder and colder quickly.  But hey, for this tumbler I paid $7 and got a free drink coupon.  Why should I expect to get something comparable to the $19 tumbler?

Great idea.  Too bad these tumblers are made in China like the other 20 broken ones I've bought from Starbucks over the years.

How about making some tumblers in an environmentally responsible country?  I don't buy products from a country that places little value on children and animals.

I agree with susiesun. However:

1. It does say the size right in the middle on the bottom.

2. If you use any tumbler long enough it will break.

3. The sippycup style lid makes it so you can drink all around your drink.

4. Drink/eat the whip off of your mocha before you put the lid on.

5. Choose a different tumbler.

The size is hidden by the price/barcode label. It looks like one of those design "oops".  The sippy cup/dribble lid is annoying.  I would not purchase it again, nor recommend it to a friend.

The size is SO small that unless you peel off the label perfectly, and have the dang cup in the right light, plus you know where you're looking, you won't find it. I WISH Starbucks would make the sizes obvious on the tumblers. How about just a little larger font?  I had to read this thread to find it, and I've looked and looked. I don't like the sippy lid. To each his own, but this tumbler just doesn't do it for me.

did some further research for my throat trouble.  In the process learnt about a "BPA-free" term. Is this tumbler BPA-free?

This mug leaks! I brought it for one of my clients filled with hot coffee, only to sadly see that it leaked on her blouse after the first few sips.

I wish they would shift the designs around.  I drink "tall" drinks but the tumbler that fits the "talls" is boring with no color, unlike the other 3.  I hope some new options are released soon!

I would love to see the iced, to go tumbler back in stores. It looks like the iced drink cups with the green straws. I have one from last year, but it has wear and tear and I would love a new one. Please bring them back in time for summer!

Enough of us love Starbucks we actually like the logo disposable cups we get in stores (and the dribble/design thing isn't an issue).

Solution: Design one line of mugs, exactly like the standard ones used in stores, and do it in three sizes (tall, grande, and venti) so that customers can select the one they traditionally drink on a daily basis.

This way, Starbucks won't lose out on the additional PR they get from people carrying around their logo as they sip on their drink, and you won't get as many complaints about how difficult it is to sip or drink from it...or order it in stores.

I'd love to buy this <3

This is the worst travel mug I have ever used.  I was won over by the post consumer recycled content, but I agree that the design is horrible.  If you try and sip more than an unreasonably small amount (and because the coffee cools down so quickly, it's probable you'll be drinking more than a baby sip), the coffee goes everywhere.  It's impossible to use while driving and while sitting down you pretty much have to take the top off.  I hope there's a design recall on this, because I'm really angry about it.

Moreover--I specifically asked the barista if the lid design would make it hard to drink from, and she said "oh no, it makes it easier!"

What a scam.

Finally:

I would rather be destroying the environment with a normal travel mug than saving it with this bs.

Way to go Starbucks, completely oblierating my concern for the environment--which you had cruelly baited me with to buy this sad excuse for a tumbler.

I brought this green travel tumbler/mug back to my local Starbucks a week after being given the mug as a gift.  It is the 12 oz size.

I'd washed it, had taken the price tag off the bottom, and walked into the store with it.  Lid off, free drink coupon from inside the mug in hand when I ordered.

After ordering and going to wait for my drink, there was a call out from the cashier "excuse me you're going to pay me for the mug?" in front of a whole store full of people.

I am still very infuriated and insulted by this experience!

Does this regularly happen in store?  I would assume that most people would either gift the mug they have bought, and if they bought it for themselves they would take it home and wash it thoroughly before coming back for their free drink?!

Accusing customers of stealing mugs when they return with their free drink coupon!  I am still fuming.

And... I'm glad the mug was a gift.  I'm not very impressed with it.  The drink did not stay hot (& I ordered Xtra hot).  When I screwed the lid back on, the latte dribbled all down the side of the cup and around the seal.   The mug is 12 oz (tall size) when filled almost to the very top, with no extra room to prevent leakage when you screw on the lid.

Also, the mug is made very tall & skinny (why I don't know?), so that it would very, very easily tip in my car cupholder!

$15 is WAY TOO much!!!! If Starbucks is encouraging going green, then they should do it without the corporate greed! They can sell these a make a small profit; they don't need to charge that much for a cup that cost them $1.95!! It seems their corporate greed is more important than their social responsibility! Rhetorical language is nothing more than empty words. What about some true social responsibility?  Sadly, people have been blinded to the "power" of Starbucks and are willing to pay such exorbitant prices for a cup!  Starbucks should be ashamed of themselves!!  There's supply and demand and then there's corporate greed!  Starbucks has become a symbol for corporate greed.

Remember everyone- you get what you pay for.  yes, Starbucks products are going to be, for the most part, pricey.  But when I saw they plastic mug you are all referring to, I pickit up and looked at it and thought "novelty mug."  Meaning something to use for a short time and then it's history due to breakage, etc....  Think, look, investigate before you buy.  Don't assume something from Starbucks or anywhere is necessarily quality, becuase you, the consumer have to be the judge as you are the purchasing the product.  Fist off, plastic in general is a lousey storage for hot drinks.  Quality 10/8 insullated stainless steel is what you want and yes you will pay abotu $20.00 for such a product.  Point being, if you baught and complaining how much it cost, etc....think about it - YOU bought it.  Next time, look at the product, ask yourself some common sense questions before considering buying.

It doesn't help that the coupons were so loosely placed in the cup - I did buy a Venti cup and I like it and the lid just fine (and I'm definitely a dribbler.)  But, all of the drinks coupons at all 3 of my local Starbucks were all stolen...and somehow, mysteriously, someone is selling free drink coupons on craigslist down here for$2 a pop.  Curious.

I enjoy using my Starbucks cup, however, I think it's long overdue to increase the cup discount from $0.10 to at least a quarter...

I am very irrated after reading this blog, I wish I had read this before I bought this tumbler.  I actually liked it- I agree the insulation sucks but since I use this for water it doesn't bother me as much, except when i use it for hot coffee, which becomes cold coffee in an hour.

But now I know I was supposed to have had a coupon!!!!!!  None of the green mugs had one so I didnt know it existed.  Why didn't the barista just say 'hey u get a free drink with that'.

And to top it all off this mug is impossible to clean! I have cleaned the tumbler repeatedly, but I can't effectively clean the lid.  And when I drink water it has a distintive coffee taste which I havent had in weeks and have cleaned this lid so many times I can't count.  I scraped my nail in between and dried up coffee came out! Disgusting!!  I want to exchange or get a refund but I bought this 2 months ago.  Very bad job with this tumbler starbucks, very bad.

Are the lids to your hot tumblers BPA free as well as the bodies?
