Introducing the Starbucks Reading Circle!

I'd like to take a moment to tell you about one of the greatest pairings of all: a great book and a great cup of Starbucks® coffee.

My name is Marshall and I work on the books and music content team. I get the privilege of working on ‘all things books' at Starbucks, which is why I'm so excited to share an update with you!  Last week, a new book hit the shelves of your local Starbucks.  Happens Every Day, written by Isabel Gillies, is a true story about marriage, life, and love.  Isabel describes the end of her fairytale marriage with honesty and compassion as she reminds readers that life does go on after tragedy.

In addition to Happens Every Day, we are also launching the Starbucks Reading Circle Book Club.  We encourage Starbucks readers to meet to discuss this book, share stories, and learn from one another.  We also encourage you to check out the Reading Circle Book Club action on Starbucks V2V to meet others who are reading Happens Every Day!  To help launch the book club, we are offering a book club starter kit to the first 25 people to post a comment on this blog*.

The starter kit includes:

4 Copies of Happens Every Day
4 Packets of Starbucks VIATM Ready Brew
1 Discussion Question Guide and Reading Schedule
1 Community board flyer to post in Starbucks stores to encourage others to join your book club

Enjoy Happens Every Day and be on the lookout for our next book to arrive in stores this spring.

Had to try three different computers and two different accounts to get access (I used to have a partner account but I don't work at Sbux anymore, so when it asked for my partner number I didn't have one... and then it denied me access to the site, even to log out, after that) but here I am! Sounds like fun, can't wait to read the book.

Always great to find new book ideas from Starbucks.  In addition to the "national" recommendation this program represents, why not look at ways to also have the book clubs make "local" recommendations of good things to read and discuss at Starbucks.  This does not enable the business models of "selling" the books at Starbucks, but could promote sales at local bookstores.  Also the uber business issue is to get people to come more frequently to the "third place" and not just purchase the book, right?  Good luck with the program.

I certainly agree that coffee and books go well together.  Though, I'd be more interested if you'd branch the book club idea out a bit; offer kits/clubs for different genres of book.  I'd love to be able to discuss what I'm reading with other people, but I don't read typical book club fare.

This is a totally cool idea.  We always like to get together to go shopping, etc.  In these tough economic times we could now get together.....discuss the book and enjoy coffee.  A fixed amount of money will be needed and we can all still do something together.  I think that I am not one of the 25 FIRST posts, however, I would love this starter kit and I would do it proud.  Please send me one:)

Hi, I am a Reading Coach at a elementary school in Florida. I help struggling readers find a love for Reading. I teach 2-4th graders. Our goal for the year is to read 1,000 books. They are currently at 600. This is a BIG accomplishment for struggling readers. Our class is called StarBooks..a play on one of my favorite places..you guessed it! :-)

Anyway, I am looking for a cool way to reward them for reaching thier goal. Any ideas. Do you think the local Starbucks would donate items for a class party or are their any grants out there. We have a wall with a StarBooks logo where they sign thier name for every book they read...it is looking awesome. Would appreciate any ideas for rewarding thier hard work.
