Reusable cold cups are back—and thanks to you, BIGGER!

What’s insulated, BPA-free and now comes in a Venti (20 oz.) option?  It’s the hottest serveware item of the season that is sure to keep your drinks cold—the reusable cold cups!

We heard you and we’re bringing both the Grande (16 oz.) and Venti sizes of the cold cups to you in participating stores and online.  While our standard disposable plastic cup is 24 ounces, drinks made for the Venti reusable cold cup will require a little less ice due to its smaller size. But do not fear-- the cup comes with permanent fill lines to guide baristas on the perfect drink proportions, so your beverage will be made just right.  The double-wall protection keeps your hands dry and your beverage chilled.

And, because we know our customers are taking steps to reduce their environmental footprint by purchasing and using their own containers for drinks on the go, we’ll show our appreciation with a 10-cent discount on the price of the drink of your choice each time you bring your cup in and order.  It’s just another way of saying we recognize that we’re all in this together-- and what’s good for the planet, is good for us all!

Make the reusable cold cup the must-have item of the summer, and pick one up while supplies last!  Who knew caring about the planet could taste so good?

Enjoy your summer on ice!

They are sold out of these cups at any of the Starbucks that I've been to, as well as from your online store.  I sure hope that we get another chance to purchase these.  They are terrific!

All the Starbucks in my area (6) sold out of the venti cups on the first day, all the grande were gone in 3-days. In this weeks delivery there were no venti and very few grande. Starbucks has grossly underestimated the demand for these cups!

My store is out, too, and still have people searching for them. Apparently the online store is out of stock, also.  Man, Starbucks could have banked off of these cups even more.  Our display table is empty and sad looking.

Thank you for bringing them back! I'm still seeing a few iced-to-go cups around at stores.  There are so many Starbucks in downtown Seattle that if you really want a to-go cup it might be best to just call around from store to store and ask that it be shipped to you.  ??? Can Starbucks do that?  It might be cheaper than finding one on e-bay. But definitely many stores are close to sold out or sold out.

I'm enjoying my new Grande and Venti cup a ton! I even like being able to get an ice water and not waste a plastic cup and lid.

Thank you!

Thank you!!!

I have tried to buy the grande size on ebay (only place I could find them) but they were selling for $30-$40! I got a Venti size the other day at my local licensed store for $12.95. I love it!

These things are sold out everywhere I swear to God. Ive looked at all the Starbucks locations near me and several other stores, but nothing!

Thank you! It's nice to see all the requests be answered. Quick question though: Why not just make it 24 ounces?

And yes, please increase the stocking, I couldn't find these in my store after the first and second days.

Yes, these cups are sold out everywhere in southern California, especially in the Venti size.  It's disconcerting and unfortunate to be told that many cups never "hit the floor" because the employees have purchased all of them - I visited at least 10 stores and called twice that many and nearly every store told me that same thing.  One store even told me they had several on hold for employees until payday and couldn't sell them to customers.   So my question is, why are employees given the preference?  Seems to me that a popular product in ANY retail situation should be sold to customers first, employees second.  If employees want a cup, they should need to pre-pay (I don't think Starbucks is going to hold anything for me until payday) and then the store manager needs to order a separate shipment for employees.  One employee even had to show off the two that she bought and brag about it.  If you check eBay and craigslist, they are for sale...if you're willing to pay $30 or more for a cup.   Are employees purchasing these cups at a discount and then selling for a huge profit?  At least one craigslist ad (in Sacramento) is from a Starbucks employee (mentioning that "his" store is sold out and he'll give you a 10 cent discount on refills.)  Ugh.

There are still some downtown Seattle Starbucks with these cold cups. If a customer calls the store, will they ship them?  It could just be that it's still rainy, wet, cold, in Seattle, and there are so many stores within a short distance of each other.

The other possibility would be to go to ebay to buy a re-usable cold cup. They're definitely popping up on ebay.

5/14/2009 3:29 PM

$15 is WAY TOO much!!!! If Starbucks is encouraging going green, then they should do it without the corporate greed! They can sell these a make a small profit; they don't need to charge that much for a cup that cost them $1.95!! It seems their corporate greed is more important than their social responsibility! Rhetorical language is nothing more than empty words. What about some true social responsibility?  Sadly, people have been blinded to the "power" of Starbucks and are willing to pay such exorbitant prices for a cup!  Starbucks should be ashamed of themselves!!  There's supply and demand and then there's corporate greed!  Starbucks has become a symbol for corporate greed.

You know what else Starbucks should bring back? Valencia syrup! There's a large amount of MSI posts about it, and nearly 4900 up votes! It's time to bring back real flavors like Valencia!!

Its awesome that you brought them back but so disappointing that stores all over only got one shipment of them and thats it. Starbucks was smart enough to bring them back but didn't think to make enough to meet the demand that they would bring. Please make more! You will make so much money on them!

I absolutely loved my 16 ounce reusable cup until I put it in the dishwasher.  The bottom of the mug says "Dishwasher safe" but that clearly isn't the case.  A huge bubble appeared on the rim and now the lid won't fit.  I'm hoping that Starbucks will replace this when I visit the store.

Good luck with that. They are sold out everywhere....

5/24/2009 1:03 PM

The managers of the last 2 stores I've been in have said that the Venti cups will not return until late August, if AT ALL.  I do have a suggestion for the powers that be when and if these cups return:

1.  Limit the number of cups per person per visit.  One store  said some lady came in and bought 6 of them at one  time (admitting that she was going to sell them on eBay.)  I think 2 per person per visit is fair.  I'm not greedy - I just want one cup at  retail price. I don't want to pay eBay prices.

2. If employees  want a cup, take pre-orders and submit a special order  for employees.  As evidenced  by my post above, it is  very disheartening for a customer to go into a store and be told  that the employees bought them all.

Marolyn143
5/24/2009 1:31 PM

I had the same thing happen in the dishwasher last year. I even contacted corporate & was told "Sorry they are sold out everywhere so cant replace."  Seems like theyd have a way to back up their products,  especially when the are aware of the problem & it still  says "Dishwasher safe",.... Like ppl mentioned the only place I could find was on Ebay for way more.  So had to wait til this year to BUY another one,  so I stocked up b/c I love the cup...  I'm confused why they wouldn't stock up on these knowing the demand for them... instead let their employees & customers make the $ to resell them.  (Hmm, maybe I'll sell mine too!!!)  They shoud sell replacement straw too.

Good luck with getting a replacement. They arent too high on Ebay right now, especially the 16oz ones.  I say go return yours & use the $ towards another one hehe.

Now if I could just figure out how to make a Caramel Macciato to taste like Starbucks....

I saw these in a Tokyo store and wasn't aware that they were for store use! Thought they were for use at home!

Want to buy one now that I know I can bring them into a Starbucks store. They're fairly bulky though and I worry about spillage. Maybe a custom case/bag  to carry them in would be nice.

I have now counted and determined that I have checked 15 different Starbucks locations for these cups! Everyone is sold out and no Store Manager that I have spoken to knows when or if any more of the cups will be sent out. Please Please Please Please Please Please send MORE! A LOT MORE!

Just like everyone else, I've hunted all around southern California, checked in with friends who know people working at various Starbucks branches and so far... still can't find them anywhere. Was in my local Starbucks the other day and two other people were asking about them, too. Please bring 'em back? =D Pretty please? I won't be greedy, I just want ONE!

Glad to hear more are being ordered, but if they're all purchased by employees and sold on e-bay, you're just going to have more frustrated customers.  How about offering them first to your gold card members?

6/11/2009 1:45 PM

This whole thing is ridiculous.  First we have plenty at our store in Oregon. Second, I come to Starbucks to buy a beverage and something to eat, in a container that I don't have to take home with me and wash and then remember to bring it with me in the car when I go  to SB.  I guess it works for some people.  But as far as this nutty carbon footprint garbage - I am happily making my carbon footprints, actually everytime I breathe.  If they (govt) want to stoop out the so called carbon footprint, the ban smoking of all kinds everywhere.  Back to the cup - it's interesting and fun, but that's about it.  And for those who buy on ebay (these cups) have you not learned enough about savings and economics yet? YIKES!

6/11/2009 7:47 PM

I have been searching city to city for those cups and they are no where to be found. I call 7 stores withing 70 miles if my home every Wednesday to try and find a shipment and nothing. Please get some more of these back on the shelves...it is so good for the environment and hey, they look fantastic!  We live 29 miles from the nearest Starbucks so I can't just drop in. I would love to have four, one for myself and for each of my 3 daughters who absolutely love making the trip to the not-so-local Starbucks!

Ok - this is the kind of thing that chaps my hide.  How did this person get SIXTY cups?  He really went around to 8 bajillion stores and bought all the cups he could find?  Or, is this an employee who conveniently purchased a case when they came in?  Or, is this someone who pirated some cups from the supplier?

I think it would be interesting if someone from Starbucks corporate office called and it was an employee who bought these cups at a discount and is now scalping them on craigslist.

Can't it be against store policy for stores to hold cups for employees till payday?  You can't pay up front, you might miss out, just like the rest of us who would like a cup.  And what's with people buying them so they can scalp people on ebay???  THere should be a fine imposed on them!

After reading all this hype - I am beginning to think I just don't need one, but it wasn't even for me - I wanted to buy one for my husband who frequents Starbucks every day with his patronage & money.  How can something so simplistic be so very complicated?  Distribute more and restrict employees and customers alike form hoarding up too many at one time.

Why can I only find these on Ebay or Amazon for a ridiculous amount?  Starbucks should be selling them on their website & limit the purchase or charge s & h for each cup over 2,  to discourage the Ebayers.  Do something to reward the loyal customers who just want the product.

Lori_E
6/25/2009 10:13 AM

Phirelight, I was thinking the same thing:  that perhaps these cups need to be an online item only for a while, with a limit per purchase.  I've heard from many stores that the cups are simply being stolen  - sometimes a cup or two at a time, and at least one store told me a whole box went missing.  Online sales only would certainly allow Starbucks to better manage inventory and loss  prevention.

I fell in love with these cups as well.  Missed the opportuniy to purchase a grande tumbler in hopes to locate a venti tumbler at another store.  Within the states I frequent, I cannot find one!  I can locate them on e-bay for an incredible amount of money - $35-$50 EACH.  I wish Starbucks would allow their gold card holders, Duetto card holders as well as stock holders the opportunity to purchase these tumblers online.

6/26/2009 7:57 PM

If Starbucks really wants to be green they need to sell replacement straws for these cups, I've had mine for about a month and I can see that the straw's life is clearly going to be shorter than the cup. How sustainable is it to be using this cup if I have to purchase a new one just for the straw? Which I refuse to do by the way! I have been very careful not to bite the straw, which I have a tendency to do, but the plastic is getting softer and softer at the the top.....

heatherstar314
6/28/2009 3:17 PM

I agree with previous posters that it's not fair that the employees are buying them all up and they are never out for the public to buy. I asked at my Starbucks if they had any and was told that they had a few but that they were in the back and weren't going to be put out for sale for another month.....hmmmmm. Also we totally need replacement straws. Pretty please!!!!

6/28/2009 5:58 PM

I think others have posted already, but why didn't they come with dome lids? Don't most people get whipped cream on their cold drinks? At least they could sell them seperately for a few bucks for those of us that would use them.

make more!! I have yet to see one...I know they're out there and have been bought up, but I have yet to see one in person anywhere in action.

I live in Phoenix, with the hot weather I bet we use a ton of iced cups, still never seen a reusable one.

I'd love to get one!

I just received a Venti as a gift and I shudder knowing it came from eBay! That said, I love it and can't wait for another batch to arrive in stores later this summer. I cannot understand the short supply decision. Very odd.

One more vote for replacement straws! I am sure this will be a necessity (and shouldn't be a manufacturing issue)!

i feel the same way! Someone has to stop this, i seen on ebay 6 venti cups going for nearly 230$ and these go for 15$? lady comes in and buys 6? were is the control here, this lady made off with the 6 is laughin to the bank, and people like my self THAT'S A SHARE HOLDER BLACK CARD HOLDER, Dont have $hit,

See something wrong here?

I seen that lady i would have took one from her arms. I'm a nice person but greed pisses me off, I'm from seattle and i thought better of this, then to not make more? The demand is there lets not make more. if i ran my business on this motto i would be out of business. I know what starbuicks will do, make the demand so high and i mean high they will sell next time for 20$ I seen venti cups for 50$ on ebay for real people? 50$ lets see you make min* wage that sa day wage,

For weeks I visited storesall over Phoenix metro area looking for these cups..  And every store I stopped in I bought a beverage (didn't wa t to be an azz). No cups anywhere!  HALF of the stores the employees and store managers openly showed their cups and said, you mean these ( showing the cups) and said sorry, we never put any out because the sbuxstaff bought them first!  Seriously!!!!!

My neice found me a grande cup after a month of searching and when I use it the staff at my regular store groans when I hand it to them.  Are they mad they don't have or what????

7/21/2009 12:47 AM

I agree with all the previous posts that Starbucks totally underestimated the consumers wanting this item! My daughter kept telling me about it and someone we knew found one in another state on a trip (we live in Sacramento, CA and have yet to see any!).  I too looked on ebay to find the pretty high, what was worse was Amazon price ($60)! So the big question is "why doesn't Starbucks make this a regular item?!" - get a clue.

OK, now, it's latter in the summer. I was told by corperate that more were comming out the first part of July.  None of the store managers here in the Fresno, California area seem to know when or if they they will get any. 8/3/2009 10:41 AM

Hmmm, still no viable answer from the powers-that-be.  Still over TWO HUNDRED listings for venti cold cups on eBay, and some of those listings have multiple cups for sale.  More than 78 listings on craigslist for the same.  SOMEONE is getting these cups, somehow.  If the cups are being stolen, is it employees who are stealing?  Customers?  Are employees/customers being allowed to purchase these by the case-full and then reselling (see my posting above  for the person in Orange County who claimed to have 60 (yes SIXTY) cups for sale.)

Most of the baristas I've spoken to lately have told me that the cups are permanently discontinued.  Is this true?

Why are these not available?  Will they ever been available again? Has anyone seriously considered  making these an online-only product, limit of 2 per customer/purchase?

It's amazing to me that places like eBay and craigslist can be flooded with product, yet Starbucks' only comment is that demand has exceeded supply.

I drove from Washington, DC to West Michigan today.  After realizing I left my Starbucks cold beverage cup in the hotel, I stopped at no less than seven Starbucks along the way to try to replace it with no luck.  I've seen alternatives in other brands, so I guess I'll try to buy one of those.  Too bad, Starbucks missed a huge opportunity here.  It fit nicely into the cup holder of my Mini Cooper.  I refuse to pay ridiculous prices for these things on E-Bay.  BTW, the hard plastic straws can be purchased in packages of twelve in really cool colors at Crate & Barrel stores.

rqdragon
8/27/2009 3:34 PM

I bought a bunch of these in grande and venti sizes simply because I LOVE LOVE LOVE them.  I bought extras for gift giving, not for reselling.  I was lucky enough to be at the right stores at the right time and hit the jackpot at the 3 stores I bought them from.  I would have been pretty upset to have been limited to a maximum number per purchase but really though, the restriction is somewhat unrealistic since what's to prevent me from a) making multiple but separate purchases from the same store or b) going to different stores?  As far as the straws go, I simply use the 10.5" straws available at Business Costco rather than messing about with cleaning the straw the tumbler comes with.

I was told they're a seasonal item. I live in Florida and they really should be available year-round in this climate. I purchased at least a dozen as soon as I could find them (grande), and then picked up a couple for my boss &  1 co-worker. Now everyone in the office wants them, and I offered to get them, but now I can't find them anywhere. When will they be back in stores. I refuse to pay $60-70 on EBay for the same thing.

I was one of those that saw these and didn't buy right away and when I came back they are gone. Went back several times at the store - no luck.

So when I saw the same item (with a different logo, of course, and the straw is orange) at Jamba Juice I bought it right away. Next time I came in, it's gone. Try  looking for these cups at Jamba and you might still find them; I just got mine a week or two ago.

P.S., I refilled my cup at Starbucks today and the staff were surprised and a little bit disappointed that I was using the Jamba tumbler. Well, I told him, you don't sell them anymore, so now, I am using (AND PROMOTING) a different company every time I use my Jamba tumbler. LOL
