Dave Matthews Band Listening Party

My name is Holly Hinton and I work on the Starbucks Entertainment team.  A few weeks ago, I posted a blog specifically for our partners (employees).  I offered all partners who responded to my blog within 24 hours the chance to hear the new Dave Matthews Band album and host a listening party in their store before the CD even launches!

Over the course of the day, 18 partners responded to the blog with excitement and enthusiasm for the new album.  If you are also a Dave Matthews Band fan, I encourage you to check the list of ‘winning’ stores below and see if your local Starbucks will be hosting a listening party!  If your store is not on the list, be sure you pick up your own copy of “Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King” at participating U.S. Starbucks stores starting on June 2.

I find this of course very interesting. This really does show the diversity in Starbucks stores that can come together to share great music. Like I have great friends from Tyler and Boston, all Dave Matthews fans.

I think Dave and the music he performs really speaks to the human condition of our contingent existence in a broken world.

"Oh look at me in my fancy car

and my bank account

Oh, how I wish I could take it all down

into my grave, God knows I'd save and save

Man, take a look again, take a look again

things you have collected, well in the end piles up

to one big nothing, one big nothing at all"

Seek Up, Dave Matthews Band

Store 14623 - 22025 Dulles Retail Plaza, Dulles, Virginia  is supposed to be closing very soon (was on the latest list, workers confirm, and was in local paper); will it still be open for the listening party?

Now that would be a hoot; tons of people in Northern VA show up and store was closed. Talk about great Starbucks PR. Well, tons could show up but this location has to be about the smallest Starbucks location in the world I have been too though its in the middle of a parking lot. Maybe some speakers outside.... Its a shame as its only been open bout 2 yrs or so; small but nice store. It is in a parking lot with a Super Target (with Starbucks inside) and a Wegmans with its own coffee bar.

Hooray!  Having heard most of it live already, I can say that this album is bound to please big fans like myself and, attract new ones of all ages. After years of what some might call trepidation to the band's tightness given response to the last few albums, make no mistake: the sounds and emotion and jam potential bring you right back to the DMB prime era 10 years ago...or, is this the new DMB prime? You be the judge! Look out for a fantastic Southern-style jam and unique rhythms.  You will feel as if LeRoi was there the whole time, the Grux opening track is awesome.

Listen well and don't be afraid to get up and dance!  Just don't spill your coffee...

I am continually blown away with the growth of this band.  This album has been hyped in the greatest way possible.  Everyday I find another source of media that is teasing/previewing it.  Way to go Starbucks, and DMB!  This album truly is a tribute to the great Leroi Moore, it feels as though he never left.  Beautiful, makes my hair stand up.

Thanks for doing this in Canada!  Us northerners have to travel so far to see DMB, its nice to see some of that love come up here!

June 2nd or June 9th?

@lewandow Dulles 28 is not closing "very soon", at least until after the summer (workers confirmed). And I, for one, think it's cool that the employees are clearly trying to drive the community feel to a shop in the middle of a growing town center. How come no other stores in the DC area, or the rest of Virginia (Dave's home state) didn't get on this exclusive list?

Now that would be a hoot: having Starbucks decide to keep a great location open after having a cool event like the listening party. The store's just been open a year, and definitely not the smallest in the area. I really enjoy hanging out there, as well as using it as a mobile office (Gold Card Wi-Fi benefit!!).

Hope to see you there!

Forgot to ask: Are other stores playing it all day? My local Starbucks (Dulles 28) is playing it three times that day: 9am, 2pm, and 6pm.

@njbonafe - June 2nd.  We accidentally wrote June 9th at first but changed it.  Thanks for double-checking!
