Strawberry Banana Vivanno™ Smoothie!

Hello!  It’s Katie again.  For those of you I haven’t ‘met’ over MyStarbucksIdea.com, I am a registered dietitian and a proud partner on the Health & Wellness team.

We’ve heard our customers ask for more real fruit, more natural ingredients, more lean protein, and more nutritious options. So, about a year ago, we introduced Vivanno™ Nourishing Blends – a nutritious blended beverage made with simple, high-quality ingredients that deliciously delivers fiber, protein, and real fruit to give you the energy you need to make the most of your day.

Since the launch, we’ve continued to listen to your ideas and we’ve heard you loud and clear – you want a Strawberry Banana Vivanno™ Smoothie!  Well, that’s exactly what you can now get a Starbucks … and it’s delicious.  The new flavor will deliver the taste and nutrition you’ve come to love from Vivanno™:

Real, simple, high-quality ingredients:

  • a whole banana
  • real strawberry puree
  • whey protein & fiber powder
  • 2% milk (you can choose to change the milk)
  • ice

Nutrition you can feel good about:

  • 280 calories
  • 15g protein
  • 7g fiber
  • Low Fat
  • No artificial flavors. No artificial dyes. No artificial trans fat. No artificial sweeteners.  No high fructose corn syrup.  That’s right; the wonderful flavor comes from natural ingredients like real strawberry puree!

So, what else is new?

We’ve reformulated our Strawberry Sauce.  Goodbye high-fructose corn syrup, added sugar, artificial flavors, and red #40.  Hello more strawberry puree, juice and natural flavors.  Not only will the Strawberry Banana Vivanno™ Smoothie benefit from this new Strawberry sauce, but our Strawberries & Crème Frappuccino® will now also be that much better.

The new strawberry sauce is less sweet than the old, so for those customers who have come to know and love the sweetness of our Strawberries & Crème Frappuccino ® blended beverage and Strawberry Lemonade, we are now adding Classic Syrup (which is free from artificial flavors, artificial dyes, and high-fructose corn syrup) to those beverages.

We’ve not only simplified our recipes, we’ve simplified the name of the product.  We’re calling Vivanno™ what it is … a Smoothie instead of a ‘Nourishing Blend’.  Now, isn’t that simpler?

Whether you’re looking for a nutritious on-the-go snack to keep you going, more protein or fiber in your diet, or a delicious, guilt-free, refreshing treat – we know you’ll love Strawberry Banana Vivanno™ Smoothies.

Thanks again for your suggestions.  You’ve come up with some great ideas and we’re happy to deliver on them!

Cheers,

Katie

The SBS is bland and boring.  Using the new strawberry puree, two once delicious drinks, blended strawberry lemonade and strawberries and cremè frapp. (even with added classic syrup), have become nearly undrinkable.

Thanks Starbucks.

I love the new Vivanno. I had two the day it came out and two yesterday. I can gladly say this is my new favorite drink!

Does the Whey Protein inside the Vivanno have Aspartame in it?

Does Starbucks offer Soymilk as an option for 2% milk replacement?

Yes they use soy. I get it all the time in my vivanno.

I would like to see some blueberries in that Vivanno as well with a sugar free option on a blueberry sauce. No high fructose corn syrup. 100% whole wheat flour for the baked good with sugar free options and egg beaters for the egg sandwiches that includes the piadinis.

we were trained at our store to add classic to the strawberry banana vivanno. i thought this was incorrect, and judging by this blog post, i think that might be right. there was no classic listed under the vivanno.

personally, i'm a pretty big fan of the change. i thought the original strawberries & creme was a bit overwhelmingly sweet.

The frappacino is great.  I've tried the Vivanno twice now, and I believe there needs to be either more strawberry in it, or classic syrup to bring out more flavor.  Otherwise, the banana overpowers the drink.

Hello, glad to hear you’re enjoying the new Vivanno™ Smoothie!  To answer some of your questions:

Batuocanhsang:

Just like any other Starbucks beverage, you can customize your Vivanno to include Nonfat, 2%, Whole, or Soy Milk (if you don’t specify, the standard is 2%).

Remember that the Protein & Fiber Powder contains milk ingredients (whey protein), so ordering your Vivanno with Soy Milk does NOT make it dairy-free.  However, the Whey Protein we use is an extremely high-quality whey protein isolate, which means there is very little (only traces) lactose.  So, those who are lactose-intolerant will likely find Soy Milk to be a good solution.

John312:

There is no aspartame (or any other artificial sweetener) in our Protein & Fiber Powder.

Additionally, our sugar-free syrups (ie Sugar Free: Vanilla, Caramel, Cinnnamon Dolce, Hazelnut) are made with sucralose, not aspartame.

Ron37:

Blueberries are a delicious idea – thank you!

Looking for more whole grains? Try some of my favorites: Apple Bran Muffin, Oatmeal, and Power Protein Plate with 100% whole wheat bagel.

Want Egg Whites?  Our new Spinach Feta Wrap and Reduced Fat Turkey Bacon Breakfast Sandwich are now made with Egg Whites – I’m so excited about that!  Enjoy. J

@chiieddy - I had similar thoughts about the Vivanno when they changed the recipe. There was an "old" way to make which resulted in an inch of beverage going down the drain and a "new" way which now fits a grande cup. The "new" way tastes horrid to me. The banana is overwhelming and it's too thick.  I keep asking for my Vivanno to be made the "old" way, and so far baristas have been just saying 'yes' to that without  a problem. I don't care if an inch of beverage goes down the drain. There is far more waste going on at Starbucks in other ways. People are too uptight and panicky about what they see going down the drain.  The food industry produces a lot of waste! Just look at any kitchen in a restaurant.

Why do I have to pay $.40 extra for just a drop of Soy Milk going into my Vivanno's? I pay with my registered Gold Card.

I always ask for my Vivanno to go into a Venti cup, because I hate for that extra inch of good stuff to go down the drain. I don't care about the extra calories/fat, etc... Also, Adding a couple of Splenda really makes my Vivanno POP!

I've become a fan of the Vivannos...they're a great alternative to a coffee-based beverage.  I have one issue, though.  I have found that if you don't get them early in the day, the stores seem to always run out of bananas.  I've tried getting them in late afternoon or evenings as a post-workout drink, and the bananas are 86'd.

I am hooked, have tried all three flavours, strawberry+banana being by far the best. I sub soy milk all the time, and it's superb. Didn't know I was getting a whopping 7 grams of fibre either! It's win-win on everything. (Except maybe my wallet.)

This smoothie is a good first step.  I have a lot of food allergies and am not able to eat any dairy or soy...so I asked the barista if they would add in a second banana instead...so my smoothie had the strawberry puree, 2 bananas and the ice.  Pretty simple but quite good when you are accustomed to a lot of blandness in your diet...and you don't have time in the AM to make a smoothie yourself...the cashier said that she would not charge me for the 2nd banana this first time but most likely I would be charged next time... first, I say kudos to the lady that accomodated my request and didn't charge me extra ...but considering I am taking some things out...seems like I shouldn't be charged more for less or equal...any thoughts on this...could you perhaps communicate that there are some strong Starbucks users that are gluten free and are just trying to find things that we CAN eat...

When are you going to offer "Soy Light" as an option for your soy drinkers.  We have options to lighten up other coffee and tea drinks but not on Soy Lattes.

Any plans for "exporting" the Vivanno experience?

I am from France and tried the Strawberry Banana smoothie during this summer. I actually loved it. I was back in the US last week and definitely wanted to go back to Starbucks for a Vivanno. That's the only smoothie I tried in the US which is not a mixed yogurt or a mixed ice-cream. Is there any chance we see them in French Starbucks anytime soon?

I love the new strawberry banana vivanno!  It's delicious, low-cal, and a great alternative to most options drive-thrus have, thanks for adding it.  I would also like to see the blueberries!
