Free Pastry Day - July 21

Hello,

We've raised the bar on the quality of our food to make it more like nature intended.  I invite you to join us on July 21, from store opening until 10:30 AM* at participating U.S. stores to try our delicious new food, Starbucks pastry items** will be free with the purchase of any handcrafted beverage.  This is our way to say thanks and to share our great new food with you.

You told us that you wanted healthier choices and you asked us to remove artificial ingredients.  We listened.  We combed through hundreds of recipes to find simple and great-tasting recipes that use high-quality ingredients.

My favorite is the Low-fat Red Raspberry Muffin.  It tastes homemade, bursting with whole red raspberries, a hint of citrus and topped with a light dusting of buttery streusel.   We’ve cut out the artificial flavors, artificial dyes, artificial trans fats, and high-fructose corn syrup from all our food case items at participating US Starbucks stores.  We call it: Real Food. Simply Delicious.

Please join us for Free Pastry Day and try our new food offerings.  Simply purchase any handcrafted bevrage and bring the following invitation to a participating U.S. store or show a barista on your mobile device.

That's a very generous offer! The description describes that you can get a free pastry with a "hand crafted beverage" however the invitation depicts coffee with the pastry. I'm wondering if I will be able to get a free pastry with a Clover cup of coffee? Or invariably, people will be asking 'what about brewed coffee'? Thanks!

Are you giving them away because you can't sell them..... They really are dreadful. Tasteless and bland. Please stop

being the calorie police - I can take care of myself, thank you!

Melody:  brewed coffee and Clover coffee both count!

What a nice idea! In the fine print it also says iced drinks are included.Does that mean iced green tea? Please let me know.

Matthew:  Thank you for the fast reply!

@Joeyee - The new food line up has some great stuff in it? My faves are the morning bun, cherry pie, and tropical passion bar. I'm surprised at your comment. Give the morning bun a try - warmed it is wonderful!

Oops sorry for typos in the above post.  There is supposed to be a period and not a question mark after "in it" above.

I was surprised to see the Orange Valencia Cake listed among the free pastries.

Are they discontinued or not?  Hope it is not.

"We've raised the bar on the quality of our food to make it more like nature intended. "............And that was something you achieved with the Gluten Free Valencia Orange Cake.  It was a delicious little cake and one that I would have loved to use your coupon for on Free Pastry Day.  Unfortunately, despite this cake being listed on that coupon,  Starbucks management has decided to pull the item from its menu some days before this promotion.  To see the gluten free cake listed on the coupon and to see Free Pastry Day promoted on the homepage of Starbucks is to rub salt in the wound.  It would have been such a great joy to go to Starbucks with my husband that morning and share the experience of pastry and coffee with him and others.

Since you have decided to discontinue the gluten free orange cake I will not be visiting any Starbucks again. I sure don't want to buy an overpriced KIND bar that I buy in bulk at a discount on Amazon and always have in my purse for emergencies.

what kind of sick people are you to list the gluten free cake for the pastry give away then not have it anymore.....sick sick sick

celiaclady, wow at what you wrote. You act as if the corporate headquarters is being <i>malicious</i> with you! Not so! My goodness. It's probably obvious that the pastry giveaway lists the GF pastry for those areas that will still have a supply of them, and are still phasing them out. Starbucks has taken away my coffee options - that IS their core competency - yet I don't call them  "sick". They have not acted with malice. They have their reasons which really have to do with cost containment, and the extensive resources from farm to barista to bring you a cup of coffee. I may not like it; I don't agree totally with them; but I don't call them "sick"!

Opening to 10:30 on june 21 is also the Barista challenge. Will the stores handle the load of people?

ON July 21 - It would be interesting to find out what store sold out the pasteries first, what state(NY), what part of the country-(east coast).

Where's the Valencia Orange Cake?

I can buy my coffee anywhere!!!!!!

Sbux, you really let us down.  You offer ONE thing for GF customers and then discontinue it without any notice.  Instead you replace it with a frickin GRANOLA BAR???  Really?

I don't want your free pastry.

Thanks for nothing.

An update on the Gluten-free Valencia Cake - yes it is available as an option for Free Pastry Day.  The Valencia Cake will continue to be in many markets until early Fall.

Clever offer. Horrible execution. I was at store #2749 at 7th&E St NW, Washington, DC. The line was to the door and the store manager announced that they were out of pastries associated with the free offer, but the display cabinet was stocked. The store manager said the items in the display were not part of the offer. I bought an apple fritter which is one of the items in the fine print that is included with the offer. Yes, the fine print says supplies limited. I'm just wondering how the average customer is supposed to look at an apple fritter sitting comfortably in the display cabinet and determine if it's part of the offer. Most of the people in line walked out of the store. They also vented their frustration on the staff who had nothing to do with planning this offer. SBUX lost a ton of trust today. What will you do to earn it back?

I agree with Lifetune.  I too visited two locations in Washington, DC, with pastries filling the display, but was told that they were 'for sale' and not part of the promotion.  Again, many angry folks in line walked out of the store, myself included.  Boo Starbucks.

Way to drive traffic to your stores, and then drive them right away again Starbucks!

Nowhere on the coupon or in the promotion did you even hint at the idea that the number of "free" pastries was limited.  You listed the items, and then refuse to honor the coupon despite the fact that those exact pastries are sitting in the pastry case while the promotion is still going on.

Nicely done.
