Happy New Year!

It’s hard to believe 2010 is here!  While we’re excited for the year ahead we wanted to look back at our progress since we launched My Starbucks Idea in the spring of 2008.  Participation at this site has been tremendous.   So far, we’ve received over 88,000 ideas and overall participation is strong with exceptional voting, commenting, and moderator participation.

A few “best of 2009” include:

- #1 blog post ever…Zagat with over 1,400 comments
- Idea most from the community: mini Starbucks Card
-  Top Five Moderators for the Year:

• Sbx_bdub – Brendan, Global Communications
• Sbx_jcar – Jeff, Starbucks Card
• Sbx_evan – Erin, Food
• Sbx_kk – Kaycee, Diversity
• Sbx_jska – Joelle, Global Responsibility

Happily, we ended 2009 with a bang.  December was a great month with the most voting to occur on the site since we launched nearly two years ago.  We broke records for the year with the most ideas received in a month and the best moderator participation ever

Of course the raison d’etre of the site is about change due to your ideas.  Here is a quick update on that front.  So far, we’ve launched 58 ideas and continue to receive more and more ideas from you.  Thanks for sharing, voting, and discussing your ideas with us.

Best wishes for 2010!

Cecile

My big wish is still for paragraph breaks, bold, underline, and italics in the comments! Happy New Year to you and all the MSI moderators.

@Melody - I hope to make your wish come true very soon!  Happy New Year!

You mean I can bold face my comments so they stand out in the crowd like before? I can hardly wait and never understood why you took that and underlining and italics away.   Oh happy day!  I would also like it so you don't have to sign in twice.

Like Melody, I am looking forward to the return of formating in comments.

Like Steve2, I would not only like to see an end to the occassional have to sign in twice, but also the not have to sign out twice--it is as if the "Ideas" side and this "blog" side are two separate entities, which appears they are since this side responds differently and has formating.

I would hope that the New Year would bring real time moderating and confirmed registration to MSI. I am getting tired of the rumor/falsehood illiterates and the multipule postings of the frappuccino, personal drink concoction, artificial sweetener, etc. fanatics.

The New Year needs to bring Bold Coffee brewed all day.

Thanks for listening and best wishes for the New Year.

I think it is great the way MSI has grown. I wish too that there would be an end to signing in twice or signing out twice. Also, it would be nice for faster responses from SB. Sometimes, there is too much lag time between responses.

Well it looks like the new year is starting off in the right direction.  We'll see comment formatting changes and a text editor for your comments next week on MSI.  I'll continue to work on the sign-in issues.  I know that is frustrating!

@DadCooks - What do you mean by confirmed registration? - Should we verify user's email addresses before they can use their account?

We have some good news coming for Brewed Coffee this year.  More news to share later.

@Steve 2 - Bold your comments, but use caps in moderation!  :)

I am just so salubriously happy to get my bold back but I hope you'll give some instruction to use this editor because I think it is different than the HTML tags people are used to.  Also another annoying thing I have experienced is that when you are commenting is this blog (I guess that is the right termology) you are typing away and then---poof--it disappears into cyber space's black hole of no return and then you  get the message "welcome guest, to comment please sign in" and I am sure a lot of other people have experienced the same thing.

Also about all of the comments I have read about this new rewards system have been negative and people really do not like it yet you don't seem to address why Starbucks has taken such a good program after only one year and turned it into such a bummer.   For instance, you said "Steve 2 writes, "instead of 10 it's 15 and instead of getting your "free" drink on your 11th visit you have to wait for your postcard to arrive in the mail."  Yet you don't explain why it's 15 instead of 10 like most punch cards are and let's face it Cecile it is really just a glorified punch card but with stars and Nancy did say somewhere that Starbucks was not going to get a punch card.  Thank you!

@Steve 2 - We need to figure out this anonymous user name issue.  Can you detail the steps that you take when you post a comment on the blog?  Verify that you are signed in - sign in at the top of the blog page and check for your user name.  I'm wondering does it possibly time out on you?  Give me some more info on this.

It may be easier to take this one offline - email me the steps at info@mystarbucksidea.com.

Thanks Steve!

@sbx_bean -- Yes, MSI should verify a user's email addresses before they can use their account.

Essentially an "activation email" that is sent to the address with a link that is clicked on to verify that the address works (I am sure you have registered on sites and/or for newsletters where this is done).

Not absolutely foolproof, but what I consider a minimum level of verification to eliminate the "drive by posters".

Also, just noticed that my last post indicated "DadCooks" instead of the "DadCooks2" that occured after the login fiasco a few months ago. Somebody fix something?

@DadCooks - Yes!  We fixed the user name mix-up on the blog.  Thanks for noticing.

I noticed it too Cecile and now I am  Steve 2 in both places and not Steve 3 here which is nice.  On this anonymous  thingie (and I noticed somewhere someone else is an anonymous too), I do not know how more I can explain it other than I am typing away and then---poof--it disappears into cyber space's black hole of no return and then I get the message "welcome guest, to comment please sign in".  Sometimes when I sign back in I find my comments under this "anonymous" and sometimes my comments are gone forever.  That's when I get really frustrated and say naughty words especially when I have post a long comment.
