Six Lunch Options Under 400 Calories

Hi everyone – it’s Katie, Starbucks senior nutritionist and registered dietitian.  By now, I’m sure you’ve noticed that there are some really great new lunch options in our stores.  I wanted to tell you a little bit about them…

Six NEW Delicious Lunch Options Under 400 calories*

When you’re hungry and in a hurry, sometimes only a hot lunch can satisfy – but often those cheesy, melt-y and creamy options can break the calorie bank.  Starbucks now offers four Panini sandwiches that are warmed upon order for a quick and delicious lunch, and at less than 400 calories , you can pair your favorite handcrafted Starbucks® beverage with one of these flavorful sandwiches and indulge in a hot lunch without the guilt.

  • Chicken Sante Fe Panini: natural chicken *** topped with a sour cream chile spread, bell peppers and Pepper Jack cheese on flatbread (380 cal)
  • Roasted Tomatoes & Mozzarella Panini: roasted tomatoes, fresh spinach, mozzarella, and basil pesto on focaccia (390 cal)
  • Ham & Swiss Panini: natural Black Forest ham, Swiss cheese and tangy Grey Poupon® Dijon mustard on focaccia (370 cal)
  • Tuna Melt Panini: dolphin-friendly tuna salad topped with Cheddar cheese on flatbread (390 cal)

MSI has been flooded with requests for more wholesome options – more whole grains, lean meat, and veggies. Here are two NEW items now available:

  • CousCous with Curried Chicken Salad:  includes couscous, quinoa, curried white meat chicken, bell peppers, shredded carrots, almonds, golden raisins, red onions (360 cal)
  • Chicken & Vegetable Wrap: includes a wheat wrap, white meat chicken, hummus, kalamata olives, fresh veggies, and lettuce (290 cal)

I thought it was nice to see the tuna melt, but then I was reviewing all the ingredients and fat content that it turned me off to it. Also, I am not a cheese lover although I enjoy tuna melts. Whatever happened to suggestions to have wraps and sandwiches without cheese. Why is there so many with meat and cheese?

Thanks Katie for the information on these new food items and the great pictures.  I'm hooked on the Chicken Santa Fe Panini.

Purple1 - I'll share your feedback with the food team.

How about bringing food to New Orleans?  None of our Starbucks have these food items and I'd love to be able to try these out.

There seems to be an issue in regards to the latest promotional for oatmeal & panini's. At two separate Starbucks, employees have tried to take the card. I protested and was able to keep the card. The flier states, “Get a $1 off all day, every day on Starbucks perfect oatmeal and new hot paninis. The card is valid every day through March 8."

Someone needs to tell Starbucks Employees that it is a promotional period, not a one time deal. If it was to be taken at time of purchase, I figured Starbucks would have printed a COUPON, not a card that is MEANT to be used more than once. Why would Starbucks spend MORE on printing costs for one time usage!!!

I agree...I've used the oatmeal/panini card twice and both times the cashiers seemed like they'd never seen such a thing...definitely communicate more to the employees so that they are familiar with things sent to customers.  BTW, I LOVE THE PANINIS!  An excellent addition to the food offerings.  I still wish the berry stella would return though!

I LOVE the roasted tomato and mozzarella panini with pesto....I frequently buy several of them, one to eat right then and there....and the other to take too work the next day (heats up well in the microwave at home or work).  I don't know how popular these paninis are, but PLEASE keep the tomato/mozzarella/pesto one!!!!! It always seems that I try something new, love it, and it gets discontinued.  (RIP berry stella)  I don't want that to happen again.
