MSI Turns Two

Hello,

Two years ago, My Starbucks Idea (MSI) debuted at Starbucks Annual Meeting of Shareholders.  The site continues to flourish with ideas, votes and comments flowing in.  Many customers visit the site on a regular basis to check out the newest ideas in action, look at the question of the day, see if they made the leader board or to check their inbox to see if anyone has commented on ideas they’re interested in too.  A few months ago, we added a new feature where customers can fill out their profile and get to know other MSI users a little better.

I have the rewarding job of sharing your great ideas with our company and then sharing what the company is working on with all of you. This active communication helps to turn your ideas into action. As we enter year three, we’ve already received 90,000 ideas and have launched 70 of them.  Most recently – Teach Baristas to Say “Thank You” in Sign Language, Computer Wallpaper, and Pour Over Brewing.  We are not slowing down.  Ideas from MSI have played an integral part in the way we work and are part of many of our future plans to provide an uplifting and inspiring Starbucks Experience.

Thank you for your input!  Let me know what ideas you have to further enhance My Starbucks Idea.

I look forward to our continued conversation,

Cecile

Cecile- Wow can't believe it has been two years. Congrats on continuing with this forum. I hope as it continues there will be more response from SB on a more frequent basis.

Does not seem like two years! I would say that recently the infiltration of activist types for the gun lobby and hard core greens seem to be jeopardizing my engagement. I want this to be for regular customers like me - and even associates. But those with paid/axes to grind on issues are really off putting for me. I really wish you would consider searching for some of these and pulling them down. Just my two cents but to be here 2 years from now it has to be about the average customer and not "issueists". They bore the crap out of me and pollute the boards.

Unfortunately, the two year anniversary of Pike Place Roast is coming up as well. That will be a very depressing day.

Happy Birthday, MSI!

Sincere thanks to Cecile, Matt, Colin and the entire Team.  You guys get beat up a lot on posts, especially with respect to Gold Card/Rewards and Pike Place, but hopefully the grateful and positive ones outweigh those.  It is great having this vehicle.

Please keep up the good work, and know this forum is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the birthday wishes!  It is good to hear the encouraging words to continue with this forum.  We like it too and glad to hear you do as well.  What enhancements should we make to the site?  Should it offer more than idea sharing?

Hm, those are great questions.  Here's my long-winded reply, Cecile:

My first reaction is that it should be kept to just ideas.  Upon further thought, it couldn’t hurt to consider expanding it.

-  A place on the site to allow for Comments-only, or Questions.

Some people do post comments (and questions) which are generated as ideas, and it might be helpful to be able to sort them accurately.

Also, there may be those who wish to post general comments or thoughts, and don’t want to be slammed or voted down.  Some people can come across as downright mean with their comments to someone’s idea.

-  Handling posts by people who clearly want to sell their product or idea.

I think an enhancement to the site could be to address these posts.  If people want to recommend a certain product, such as “reusable coffee sleeve” – great, but when someone writes “My company sells...” or posts their website or phone number for sales inquiries, they should probably be removed or deleted.  I’m certainly not against businesses trying to reach out to Starbucks, but it should be done through the proper channels.

-  Starbucks Customer Service link

Even when people should direct a comment or question to Corporate (about a specific store/experience), some still post it on MSI.  Perhaps if there was a “Customer Service” link on the main MSI page to click on, like there is on starbucks.com, maybe people would use it (although some people still would not manage to).

Well, I’m not sure how valid, practical, or feasible any of this would be, but those are my comments.

Thank you.
