From the Blue Mountains of Jamaica to Clover

Coffee in barrels? I thought barrels are for grapes and wine, and coffee comes in burlap bags. But Jamaica Blue Mountain® breaks the mold, and this spring we were delighted to see barrels from Jamaica come into our cupping room. Right from the beginning, you know this coffee is something special.

This year we saw the iconic barrels arrive at Starbucks, and we’ve been excited to share this exquisite coffee with you ever since..  To carry the name Jamaica Blue Mountain®, the coffee must be grown in one of the parishes in the Blue Mountains where the coffee grows at altitudes of up to 5,000 feet. It is processed under strict quality control guidelines set forth by the Jamaica Coffee Industry Board. The coffee is balanced with  mild citrus notes and a classic creamy smooth chocolate finish. We purchased a small number of barrels and are anxious to share the coffee with our customers this summer.

Jamaica Blue Mountain® launches June 29th at our stores offering Clover® crafted coffee.  It’s a great coffee to showcase through the Clover® brewer, which captures all the subtle nuances of the coffee. I like being able to offer it as a single cup so customers who are curious have the opportunity to taste something truly unusual at Starbucks.

We have only offered this coffee twice in Starbucks history, and my first experience with this coffee was as a customer. Being part of the team that found and brought this coffee to stores is an exciting adventure. As a partner, I work on the global coffee quality team and have a special connection to this coffee. Besides getting to taste coffee as part of my job, I get to work on the recipe development which helps us define the best representation of flavor in the cup.

Jamaica Blue Mountain® reminds me of an old friend. Someone you are immediately comfortable with, yet there are new and unique discoveries along the way.  Take advantage of this rare opportunity to discover something new and special at Starbucks.

If the # of clover stores cannot be expanded, as we once expected, (got fewer than we were told), then can we not at least get some small-batch coffees once in a blue ;) moon....like we used to, yrs ago, all over the country?

I agree with betterbefore...you have so many Starbucks coffee enthusiasts all over the US (like me!) who don't have a clover store anywhere in the state (like me!!) but drool over all these small batch special offerings.  I have had the pleasure of trying Yirgacheffe and Guatemala Antigua Medina but those are the only two so far.

Please consider giving regions different small batches - this way you need one offering to supply to the whole country.  I believe that was an idea submitted a month or so ago...and would be wonderful!

and it used to be this way on a regular basis.  all thru the 90's and into the early-mid 2000's.   please, at least share the coffee.
