A Special Coffee Gem – Ethiopia Limu

I have to tell you about a hidden gem you will find in participating Starbucks stores this summer.  Along with our very popular Gazebo Summer Blend™ coffee, for a limited time we are featuring Ethiopia Limu.

This coffee is special for many reasons, but let’s start with the flavor.  Ethiopia Limu is a wonderfully layered and complex cup of coffee.  Pour a cup and enjoy the floral aroma.  The first sip is a burst of citrus and sweet spice – this coffee is juicy and will leave your mouth watering.  As you continue to drink, you may discover flavors of tangerine, spicy ginger & ripe tomatoes.  This coffee has the feeling of summer in a cup.

Along with its delightful flavors, this coffee has a very special origin.  The people of Ethiopia, which is considered the birthplace of coffee, have a unique coffee ritual.  Every day, friends and family gather for coffee ceremonies – they start with roasting the green coffee and then grind the beans by hand.  Next, the coffee is brewed over a fire in a traditional pot called a jebena.  Finally, the coffee is poured into small cups that are filled three times -- the first cup is for satisfaction, the second for conversation and the third for blessings.  This ritual is a time to connect around coffee every single day.

Ethiopia Limu provides us all with a great opportunity to take some time and connect around coffee.  It’s available for a limited time in whole bean to enjoy at home or if you're at a store with a Clover® brewing system, enjoy it in our cafes.  We welcome your tasting notes.  Let us know what you think of this coffee.

Actually Yemen is considered the birthplace of coffee, not Ethiopia.  The port city of Mocha in Yemen imported coffee to the unwashed masses of Europe and developed the trade.
