New Site Enhancements

The My Starbucks Idea community continues to grow and be an integral part of the Starbucks business.   In the spirit of recognizing our MSI community we’d like to share some new site features – an updated leaderboard and an enhanced user profile page.

Leaderboard – recognizes the top ten users – the movers and shakers of MSI for their comment and voting activity for the prior month along with their submitted active ideas.  Additional credit is given for positive votes on your ideas.  This will change monthly to reflect the previous month’s activity.  Once an idea has an official status change it is no longer considered in the calculation.  We hope this fosters momentum for even more fresh ideas.

Profile – Wonder how another user got their “idea launched” badge?  Well now you can see their ideas and which ones have launched or are under review.   Click on the user name to see more information about them, like how long they’ve been a member of My Starbucks Idea, recent site activity, and on your profile page you can even upload a picture of yourself for others in the community to see.   Click on the “My Profile” button at the top of the page after you log in to update your profile information today.

We hope you enjoy these changes to the site and look forward to your feedback.  We have something big to celebrate with you in the next week or so.  Anyone have any ideas what it could be? Keep the ideas coming!

Is there a way to make our profiles private?

Thank you.

I feel like I should have been listed on the new leader board. I have enough posts. why was I not listed? How did you determine who are the top 10?

I am in agreement with 1yogagirl, totally.  come on! 8888m.....???  a name most of us have never seen on the site, who has no profile (there's a private one for you, 'TheKwan"), and has apparently ONLY voted!

At the very least, could one of you (Cecile) go to any one of the threads questioning the sanity and/or logistics of this new 'leaderboard' and comment on the questions there, and to the fact that we overwhelmingly voted to just remove the leaderboard, when asked, over and over?  what's up with that?  Please speak to this, back on the idea side at any one of those threads.  Thank you.

I thought it was agreed to get rid of the leader board because it has no real meaning so why is it still here?  Sounds like coporate double talk which is what we have been getting from Starbucks lately like the new rewards program with so called "encancements" which sucks as compared to the old 10% discount which was a real rewards program.  Seems that you people are like politicans; talk out of both sides of your mouths.

Okay, I'm confused about something.  I just visited my profile and it says I have 0 postive votes.  But my ideas have a total of 1,130 points.  How did I get those points without any positive votes?  Please explain.

@TheKwan - You do not need to fill out your profile info.  It is optional.

@ 1yogagirl - as stated in the blog the Leaderboard recognizes the top ten users – the movers and shakers of MSI for their comment and voting activity for the prior month along with their submitted active ideas.  Additional credit is given for positive votes on your ideas.  This will change monthly to reflect the previous month’s activity.  Once an idea has an official status change it is no longer considered in the calculation.  We hope this fosters momentum for even more fresh ideas.

Do you have more posts than the listed top 10?  Calculations are done monthly - so your activity this month will be reflected in November.

@Steve 2 & COFFEEISLIFE - Thanks for your feedback.  We are trying new things, but appreciate hearing your opinion.  We are still considering removing the leaderboard, but thought we would see how the new point system works out.

Would love to hear what you would like to see the Leaderboard replaced with.  I know Steve 2 has suggested the stock price.  Any other ideas?

@carollk - Once your idea has received a status change (under review, launched, reviewed, or coming soon) it is no longer considered in the point calculation.  This is to help with some vibrancy on the leaderboard or the users who submitted the top all time idea points would always be on the Leaderboard.

The points on your ideas are a fraction of the point score.  10 points on your idea does not have equal waiting.  This also was considered in the point score to help create the vibrancy in Leaderboard change month over month.

My ideas have never had a status change.  And I couldn't care less if they are used in the total for the leader board calculation.  I just don't understand why my Positive Votes Received equals 0.  How is that possible?

Cecile,

By profile, I was actually wondering if we could keep other information private (including recent site activity, ideas commented on, etc.).

carollk

I wouldn't worry about it.  It isn't accurate anyway.

This is my best guess on the leader board formula.

Totals since becoming a member

   i = ideas which have not received a status change

   p = positive net votes received for these ideas divided by 100

Totals for the month

   c = comments

   v = votes

The formula

i + (p/100) + c + v = leader board points earned

JavaChicky

5 + (0/100) + 452 + 1,792 = 2, 249

mick888888

0 + (0/100) +0 + 1,294 = 1,294

Melody

114 + (9466/100) +180 + 383 = 772

So how does 1,140 (none of which are under review, reviewed, coming soon or launched)  divided by 100 = 0?

It should be 11 votes if the formula is correct. I am trying to access your profile but having trouble finding you. Clicking on your name here does NOT get your profile. I will continue to work on the problem. Doing the best I can. :)

Your profile shows 0 positive votes for your ideas (The formula was derived from the profile information). Your individual ideas, one of which is under review, appear to have 390 positive votes. There is a problem but not with the formula.

Thanks, I didn't realize one of the ideas was under review.  I had an idea with 860 points that was closed and I didn't know whether this would be included or not.  So are you saying my Positive Votes Received should be 3 or 4 (does the formula round up or down)?

TheKwan

@Betterbefore - hehe, have to give that person credit for actively voting.  I need to step my game up.

badogs

@carollk Should be 4. Closer to 4 than 3.

@carol no one voted for your ideas this past month. That's what it's for

badogs

@JavaChicky Her individual ideas submitted for the previous month show positive votes. However, these votes are not shown in her summary.
