Join Us in Supporting Relief Efforts in Japan

Our deepest condolences go out to the people of Japan and their families around the world. During the past few days, we have all seen the heart-wrenching images and heard the reports of lives lost there, especially in the Sendai coastal region. Thousands of people have been evacuated near nuclear plants and millions are without adequate food or shelter.

We are committed to doing all we can to support relief efforts in Japan. The Starbucks Foundation and Starbucks Coffee Japan contributed ¥100 million ($1.2 million USD) to the Red Cross for relief efforts in Japan. Starting today, we are accepting donations to the Red Cross in our U.S. and Canada stores, and we are working toward doing the same in several other countries around the world. You may also wish to donate directly to the Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Fund online.

Please join me in keeping the people of Japan in your thoughts and wishing them strength and hope as they begin to recover and rebuild. I invite you to share those thoughts here.

Hello Vivek and all of Starbucks! Thanks for the heart-warming news. Given the devastation, Japan must have years and years of clean up, and billions of dollars of need to rebuild, rescue, and restore. I'm going to go to a Starbucks today and make a donation! It's been gut wrenching watching the news, and we're still in the infancy of this disaster.

Thanks! Melody

@Steve2 - Hey did you see on the news that Sandra Bullock donated a million dollars of her personal wealth to Japan! Wow!

I have an idea. Is it possible to build a starbucks truck loaded with a lot of coffee and give it to the people in the Tohoku region? It is extremely cold there and a cup of starbucks coffee will warm their bodies as well as their hearts.

Thank you very much, Starbucks ! for listening to my wish for Japan. We are very impressed with your comments and action to help Japan. I translated your messages to my families in Japan, and they were very grateful for your support and attention.  I like the idea of miyabem, this reminds me of Tide's brand support of "Load of Hope" to Haiti. The current situation in Japan (especially Northern Tohoku area) is still VERY difficult.  Weather - still cold... but since the port was destroyed due to Tsunami, shipping is not sufficient, and survivors' lives are facing lack of Gasoline, short of Heating oil, food.....yes, definitely a cup of coffee will make our people warm and smile : ) I am a brand marketer from Japan, working in the U.S and Japan. Please let us know if anything we can help working for idearion of Starbucks Coffee Truck "Load of Smile" in Japan.
