Tell Us Your Starbucks Story

Onward is the remarkable story of Starbucks transformation.   Howard Schultz shares his story of the company’s turnaround, revealing how, during one of the most tumultuous economic periods in history, Starbucks once again achieved profitability without sacrificing humanity.  The book is now available in participating Starbucks stores.

We want to hear your Starbucks story.  For the My Starbucks Idea community we have a special offer.  Share your Starbucks story about how Starbucks has influenced or affected your life which might include meeting your spouse or writing your own book at your local Starbucks store in no more than 250 words in the comments below.  We will choose our five favorites.  The winners will receive an Amazon Kindle® with the book Onward: How Starbucks Fought for Its Life Without Losing Its Soul preloaded onto the Kindle® wireless reading device.  For complete contest rules click here.  Contest ends March 31, 2011.

For more information about Onward and the Howard’s book tour visit Starbucks.com/Onward.

Did anyone else notice how not all of the winning submissions actually meet the criteria laid out?  "Share your Starbucks story..... in no more than 250 words in the comments below".

TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY WORDS.

A CLEAR, AND SIMPLE RULE- right?

It's one thing for those writing not to realize they have exceeded the 250 word limit.

It's quite another for NO ONE at Starbucks to actually take the time, or even care, to actually count the words of a submission, before declaring them a winner!  While one may not be concerned with the rules as others write them; when you sbx_bean have written them, please at least take the time to follow them!  Is that too much to ask for?

Why should anyone have any respect for the rules here at MSI, when even the simplest of rules for an online contest are not being properly followed?  Yes, Cecile, mistakes do happen.  Embarrassing yes, but a mistake nonetheless.

Congrats to you lucky winners!  I knew there was NO way I could tell "my Strabucks story" in 250 words, so, I told it anyway.

Enjoy those Kindles!   Thanx to msi..they didn't have to do this at all.

Congratulations to the winners, and despite the few negative remarks above, I hope the rest of us who posted in the hopes of winning a kindle can walk away with nothing but thanks for the opportunity to reflect on, and share our stories!  I enjoyed reading all of the stories shared and I only hope it reminds us all that the people we met, ideas we shared, and opportunities that came up from time in a Starbucks are invaluable, and therefore more valuable than any new kindle or electronic fad.  I know meeting Michael was the best thing that ever happened to me so I thank Starbucks for the small part they played in that.  Thank you and congrats again to the contest winners.

I'm sure my story is much like that of others.  I'm physically handicapped with Meniere's Disease which limits my interaction with others by limiting the venues in which I can function productively.  Starbucks is my social outlet and available in any town or city in which I find myself.  The, usually, small shops are perfect for me where a too busy atmosphere interferes with my cognitive processes.  The ability to sit outside or in and just share a smile with someone can affect my whole day in a positive way.  Having a barrista actually recognize me and greet me with a smile and sometimes easy banter is great.  Starbucks is a large part of my now small world.

I was very dissapointed when I went to Starbucks.  It wasn't that busy but it was VERY slow.  They had to ask us what we ordered even after we already ordered.  Customers that came after us left before us.  Starbucks really needs to work on all of those issuses.
