Introducing Starbucks Refreshers™ Iced Beverage

You know that cool moment, when you come across something head-scratchingly different, new or just plain-old-intriguing? Like discovering a new band, a hidden-gem restaurant, a new app, a genius artist? I love that feeling!

Well, here’s to a new kind of coffee experience that I hope feels a little like that. You have told us you want more thirst-quenching beverages at Starbucks. So we dabbled. We played. We mixed. We tasted. We dabbled a little more. And we created Starbucks Refreshers™, a new line of iced beverages currently available in select stores in southern California and Arizona.

Starbucks Refreshers™ Iced Beverages come in two flavors: Very Berry Hibiscus with real blackberries and Cool Lime with a slice of real lime. Each contains real fruit, fruit juice – and green, unroasted coffee extract. We call it Greenstyle™ Coffee.

Around the beverage department we like to say “the newest thing in coffee tastes nothing like coffee.” Greenstyle™ Coffee is a new ingredient made solely of green coffee beans, so it has a light, subtle taste unlike that of roasted coffee, but it still provides a bit of natural caffeine.

I’m a big fan of these drinks because they are super thirst-quenching. I’m hoping you all in SoCal and Arizona will be fans, too.  I’d love to hear what you think.

Bring Starbucks Refreshers to the Nation!

Refreshers are not available in all markets, in fact only available in a minority of markets.

Starbucks should not be doing national promotions on limited region products!

I agree with DadC...... and  I wish these were available in all areas. Or, bring back the wonderful 'tazboerry 'n cream'.  That was soooo good, and also sold very well here.  (quite a while ago that it was ended, but would love to have it back)

I got this today! My Starbucks barista handed me this drink by mistake (I ordered a Coffee Light Frappe) but I asked if I could try it since they were just going to throw it away and I fell in love! My coffee frappe ended up melting away, forgotten. I didn't see any advertisements or anything so I had no idea what it was called, which led me to this blogpost! Thats just how much I enjoyed the drink.

The barista said she wasn't a fan of it because it was a little on the bitter side and even though it was a tad bitter, I still thought it was refreshing and perfect for the summer. The customers around me actually asked me how the drink was because they said it looked like a mojito so they were intrigued just from it's appearance. I hope this drink stays around for a while because I plan on getting it asap!

Its honestly so light and refreshing! Excited to try it again tomorrow!

Now, if only Starbucks would stop messing up my drink orders so often! >:(

I am not ususally a fan of coffee drinks because of the taste. This morning my co-worker stopped at Starbucks to pick up drinks for us and the barista mentioned the refreshers. She was going to give a sample, but my co-worker just decided to order a venti for all of us to try. So far I have only gotten a taste of the hibiscus and black berry but I know I will be going back again for sure. Thank you Starbucks for another option besides tea and non-coffee fraps.

I was so looking forward to the cool lime. For my afternoon break from coffee or tea.   I love lime, but was really disappointed.  It tasted very vitaminy, not enough lime.  Sorry great idea, but not for me.

The very berry hibiscus is such a nice refreshing drink. Love the taste and it's a nice change from the green tea. Starbucks might want to consider add-ons for the black or green teas. think how nice the green tea would taste with the blackberries or the black tea with real peach flavors. Lets have some variety in the tea add ons too!!

I really liked the Very Berry Hibiscus, and was surprised to find out there was "green" coffee in it.  Bitter?  I wouldn't call it bitter, but it isn't sweet, which is nice.  Tried the Cool Lime and was very disappointed.  I have had more flavor with a slice of lemon in my water.  Needs more Lime.

refreshing drinks can be made from roasted coffee, too. today i tried something new just for the heck of it. in a smoothie machine i mixed two cups of brewed dark roasted coffee (after it cooled), 4 cubes of ice, three large strawberries and some sugar.  it was surprisingly GOOD. even my daughter, NOT a coffee drinker, enjoyed it.

the two flavors together made for a very pleasantly surprising drink!!

I love the Very Berry Hibiscus! I have had it several times and it is super yummy! It's got a great flavor and is super refreshing on a hot day.

Last night I got the Cool Lime for the first time and it was disgusting! The baristas even warned me not to get it when I asked how it tasted. I took one sip and wanted to spit it out. Gah! And, this is coming from someone who LOVES lime and limeade and anything lemon/lime flavored. I think my problem was that it tasted like a watered down virgin Mojito and, for some reason, I do not like the taste of Mojitos. EWWWWW!!! Anyway, I did not like it nor would I recommend it.

Stick to the Very Berry Hibiscus! It is very yummy! :)

Yes, I'm in Chicago too and my husband and I would both like to try these new drinks.  I'd also like to try that sugar-free mocha that was being tested and never heard about again.

Are the canned Refreshers only available in Arizona and southern California as well?  If so, then I'm sad.  :\

So I was in California last week and tried the very berry hibiscus refresher tea it was so amazing and I have been craving it ever since.  So I come back to Oregon to find out that they do not offer that one here I so am not happy about that.  I usually do not drink Starbucks and now that Oregon does not have the very berry hibiscus I guess I will not be anytime soon.  This is the best tea I have ever had they should sell this in every store!!!!

A tall (12 oz.) Berry Hibiscus Refresher has 60 calories and a tall (12 oz.) Cool Lime Refresher has 40 calories.

Dear Mr. Smith (if that is your real name),

I am very excited to try these refreshing beverages. What would you say is the inspiration for such amazing new line extensions? Would you say it is your R&D team or do you have some secret?

Keep up the great work

I just tried the Berry Refresher and loved it but can't find any information about the nutritional values on the internet.  I assume it is because it is only available in a limited area.  But I would like to know how they fit in my diet.

Ohmygoodness!  I had my first refresher this week.  I know I'll catch flack for this, but I really don't like coffee.  I drink it for the effect, not the taste.  But these refreshers blew me away.  Not only caffeinated, but they taste awesome!  I thought the lime was great until I tried the very-berry hybiscus.  Wow - truly delicious and refreshing.  I hope you come up with more of these wonderful refreshers.  And thank you for coming out with something new!

One would think, even though certainly not the hottest city around, that Seattle would be in the list of test markets...

Didn't you guys bring something like this out last summer too?  I thought it was even called a refresher.  It was lightly carbonated, and there were two flavors???  I was SO disappointed when they were taken away.

Would sure LOVE to try these new drinks!

Bring them to Seattle!!!!

Wow!  We got sooo addicted to these this summer, that we were almost happy to leave Hawaii (where they do NOT have the refreshers)!  Please keep the refreshers on your menu here in So. Cal and add them to other areas as well!!

Is this beverage sweetened with sugar? Cause the barista told me it wasn't. I really liked this drink, especially the line flavored version. In fact, when the temp reaches 116 degrees here in Yuma, I could suck theses drinks down all day long, but not if the beverage is pre-sweetened with sugar.

I Absolutely Love the Refreshers. We put an adult spin on the cool lime by adding pineapple rum to it. It was amazing.

I Have gon broke trying to get a Venti and Trenta. One thing i do and may suggest to other is to 1. Get it with out water or very little water, or 2. substitute Lemonade for water! The water in the recipe makes the drink average and impedes the flavor. Plus with the drink being on ice and as the ice melts, it really make the drink seem less the average and undrinkable disappointing. Therefore the flavor is not that same exciting taste you get a pond first sip.

I LOVE the refreshers, but was not aware that they were on a limited launch, so when I moved from LA to Austin, TX at the end of July, I was SO DISAPPOINTED. I have only gone to Starbucks twice since being here because (1.) they do not have my favorite drink, and (2.) there is not a Starbucks in the new mall where I was transferred to. PLEASE make these drinks nationwide, and I will go out of my way to get it!

I am so disappointed that all the locations in the area are out of these two drinks. The Cool Lime and Very Berry Hibiscus were such refreshing drinks. I visited Target, and three different Starbucks storefronts and each were out, all saying they don't expect more. Apparently these drinks were too popular? Starbucks is really missing an opportunity to refresh inventory, especially since September is typically the warmest month of the year in Southern California.

I LOVE the COOL LIME! A friend of mine had mentioned how much he had become addict to the Cool Lime! I usually drink a trenta Green Iced Tea, But now I'm an addict! This drink is awesome!!! There are four Starbucks I visit, and only one seems to have it still. I was told it was seasonal, but I live in Palm Springs...It's summer all year round here. I'm writing a comment on behalf of my friends! WE WANT COOL LIME ALL TIME!!!!! Please keep it!!!!! WE WANT IT!!! I understand the business model of having seasonal items, such as egg nog lattes and such, but limes are all year round!!! There's a fine line of keeping the customer interested and pissing them off! Keep it around!!!

The refreshers are awesome! If your local Starbucks allows it, everyone should try Very Berry Hibiscus with Lemonade (no water) or Cool lime with strawberry puree.  These are some creations my local Starbucks had tried out and have stuck with me.  These are so good!!

I have been waiting EVER so patiently for the summer to arrive again hoping that THESE TWO drinks return this summer.  In particular I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Cool Lime Refresher -- I have them add some of the blackberries to it as well and it is even more amazing!   It seems everyone thinks these little cans that you are now selling called refreshers will be replacing these two drinks and that would be WRONG.  These will NOT replace getting a FRESH drink made at the size we want... PLEASE bring back Cool Lime and Very Berry to the CAFES!!!
