Enjoy a Caramel Wafer Cookie with your Coffee

Hi everyone, it’s Megan from the Food team. I’m very excited to share with you, a new addition to our packaged treats this summer. You asked for it to come to the U.S. and so I’m happy to say; the Caramel Wafer Cookie is back! This cookie has long been offered in Europe but with so many people telling us how good it is, we decided to bring it to the U.S. and Canada again this summer.

The Caramel Wafer Cookie is made up of two thin, round waffle-like wafers. Between the two wafers is a layer of rich caramel filling that gives a sweet chewy texture to the cookie. This cookie is so delicious with a hot cup of coffee. Here’s a little tip; if you let the cookie sit on top of your lid of a warm latte or coffee, the heat from your drink will warm it slightly and make it soft and gooey as the filling warms up.

I couldn’t give you the mouthwatering details without a little history behind this cookie. The Caramel Wafer Cookie originated in the Netherlands in the 1700s. Its Dutch name is “Stroopwafel” or “Syrup Waffle”. Traditionally, they are prepared by slicing a fresh waffle in half horizontally, spreading the filling and rejoining the two pieces. With a long standing history like this, why wouldn’t you want to try it?

I hope you enjoy these as much as I do. They will be around for just a short time so be sure to stock up!

Yummy!!  I'm so happy, I recently visited the Netherlands (much of Europe, in fact) and the Stroopwafels were amazing!!  I brought some back home with me, and was thinking it would be nice to see them in Starbucks.

where are the gluten free options? i am allergic to wheat/flour. there is nothing accomodating for me to eat while i am buying a coffee. starbucks really should be catering to everyone not a select few.

They are not catering to just us wheat/flour eating people, they know how much it cost to get a gluten free product.  Do you have any suggestions they could try to make at a similar cost?  Help Starbucks out by giving them an idea for what they can make.

antie, starbucks does not offer anything in their bakery that is flour/wheat free so they are catering to a select few! I must eat gluten free this is not some phase that some feel they want to try by eating gluten free I have to or I may develop intestinal cancer. My body cannot process flour/wheat. I was hospitalized for 4 months before I was diagnosed I have celiac disease many have not known about this disease until recently. Starbucks is a huge corporation that can accomodate everyone. Price is not an option when it has to do with life or death. Making gluten free items in bulk is not that costly. I use Bob's Red Mill all purpose gluten free flour that would be the same as regular white flour that I am allergic to and make tons of biscotti cookies and other baked goods. Sometimes I just want to go out and enjoy a treat and relax with a cup of coffee without me having to make it. If other large corporations like Outback and Bonefish can accomodate everyone so can starbucks. They offer a flourless chocolate cake on their dessert menu. In todays world there needs to be a varierty to accomodate everyone unfortunately. I appreciate your advice and I have made comments on gluten free items. The orange valencia cake was gluten free they removed it and it was fabulous. They had cookies pre packaged they were great they removed it. I will keep trying. Thanks

May I suggest, For a truly delicious & gluten free, low calorie & diabetic friendly, there is only 1 site that I would recommend and where you can 'finally' get a great cookie, fit for the fittest celebs too! visit: www.missnickys.com

Their 'flourless/butterless/eggless' cookies are sublime, and my favorite is their 'M'POWer Cookie which is made from 'flax & oats', no wheat flour/no butter/no eggs & is only about 125 calories!  Their cookies are only 100-130 calories for a large 3"-3.25" diameter cookie.

Their newest cookie, developed for makeup mogul Bobbi Brown, is a bittersweet/dark chocolaty cookie, called the 'Pretty M'POWerful Cookie, which is synonmous with her successful 'Pretty Powerful' campaign.

The beauty of this line of cookies is that they can be enjoyed by all.  Whether you're celiac/dieter/diabetic/Autistic/or, just want great taste without packing on the calories, there is now '1' cookie that deliciously satifies all!

Simply Put, 'this is a helluva delicious cookie', but the new chocolaty one is a winner too!  Good Luck!

@lattesf....:  I think MOST people are NOT gluten free so I'm thinking you're incorrect in saying Sbux is 'catering to a select few'.  I understand that some people need to be gluten free, and maybe it's even healthier all the way around but, it's not so easy, and really, most of the US is definitely not eating 'g-free'.

re: the cookie.  I haven't seen it my store either.  will have to look around....does sound good.

I can't find these cookies anywhere and I'm disappointed that I didn't get to try them.  If they are that popular, why are they a limited time item?  It's probably better that I didn't taste them because I would've been more upset if I became addicted to them before they disappeared.  (I still haven't gotten over the berry stella from years ago.)  Hopefully these cookies will come back someday.

Just curious--any plans on bringing back the stroopwafels? It'd be nice to have them again. :)
