My Starbucks Rewards™ is coming to Canada

We’re thrilled to share great news. The My Starbucks Rewards™ program is coming to Canada! Starting October 4, with My Starbucks Rewards™, you earn a star every time you pay with your registered card. There’s no membership fee to join and the more you use your card, the more Stars you collect and the more you’re rewarded.

If you registered your Starbucks Card before October 4, you’ll automatically be enrolled as a Green Level member which means you get to keep enjoying the benefits from Starbucks Card Rewards you’ve grown to love – free select syrups and milk options, free same visit refills and free tall drinks with your whole bean purchases.

Register any Starbucks Card after October 4 and you’ll be enrolled at the Welcome Level and you will receive a postcard to exchange at a participating store for a free drink for your birthday.

When you collect 30 Stars in a year you’ll be reward and recognized for your visits by becoming a Gold Card member.  This means you’ll get a free drink with every 15 stars, plus special offers, coupons and your very own personalized Gold Card.

Keep an eye on your inbox (and mailbox) for more great My Starbucks Rewards™ news coming to you soon. Take a moment to be sure we have your current contact information at Starbucks.ca.

Will this apply to purchases at Starbucks counters at Chapters?

If I receive a Starbucks gift card as a gift, can I transfer the balance to my Gold Card?

The rewards system has been in Calgary for awhile. Now it's rolling out to all Canada!

I signed up today, October 2 and didn't start at the green level as suggested in the post....

"If you registered your Starbucks Card before October 4, you’ll automatically be enrolled as a Green Level member which means you get to keep enjoying the benefits from Starbucks Card Rewards you’ve grown to love – free select syrups and milk options, free same visit refills and free tall drinks with your whole bean purchases."

Can someone fix this or was it just a gimmick?

I purchased and registered my Starbucks card today, October 3, and like jujubeans, I never got my green level membership. What do I do? Is it an automatic upgrade on October 4th for everyone?

Please fix it!! I got the card today just because I thought I'd get the benefits of a green level membership right away!

@JJ Sobey - If the Chapters store accepts Starbucks Cards your purchase will apply.

@JessicaP - Just login to your Starbucks account online and you can transfer the balance to your Gold Card.

@veeron - The My Starbucks Rewards program has been “testing” in the Calgary market for over a year. Calgary residents will keep their stars and their Gold status.

@jujubeans and @deestellar - My Starbucks Rewards officially launches October 4th. Once it launches you’ll be able to see your Reward status.

Now It's on Oct 4.

Why do I am still a Welcome Level, not a Green Level member????

"If you registered your Starbucks Card before October 4, you’ll automatically be enrolled as a Green Level member which means you get to keep enjoying the benefits from Starbucks Card Rewards you’ve grown to love – free select syrups and milk options, free same visit refills and free tall drinks with your whole bean purchases. "

I saw this news and registered my Starbucks Card before October 4.

Thank you for your answer!!

Stars for drinks, not transactions- the loyalty program is really idiotic. Instead of buying four drinks at the same time I would have to order each drink separately  just to earn more stars.

Also, you would have to first order thirty drinks to get to gold level, and then order fifteen before getting a free drink. Espresso House, one of your competitors in Northern Europe, offers 10 % off on all drinks consumed on premises and 20% off on take away (the card is free of charge if you load it with 25 CAD). Also, most other coffee chains with loyalty programs in Northern Europe offer free drinks after six-seven drinks. No wonder there is no Starbucks in Sweden.

There's still no change in my membership level, and it is already the 6th. Why is this change so hard to program into the website?

I feel that it would be better to award stars based on amount spent rather than just on a per use basis.  I often spend more than just a beverage with my purchases and it seems like I almost get penalized for spending more if it's on a per use basis.

Maybe a per use basis would work for an initial purchase and then a star can be award for maybe every $5 spent over $5 (or whatever the average initial spending amount is for customers).  That would encourage users to use their cards more rather than potentially initiating multiple purchases to try and maximize the number of stars they can gain.  It'd save time and money per transaction for both the customers and the baristas.

I'm sure I could think this out better but this was just off the top of my head and I've encountered this issue quite a bit over the last couple of days!

javagraba.com makes very cool "Canada Maple Leaf" coffee sleeves that come in different shapes and are fully re-useable. The upc codes for starbucks cards could also be attached to these sleeves so that it could be used in the same manner as the current credit card style cards. These could be used to help support Canadian athletes in the next Olympics, and what a better place to start this than Calgary! www.javagraba.com has more info.

I have a Starbucks gold card in the U.S. but I am moving to Canada soon. Can I "transfer" that card to Canada?
