Digital Rewards are Here

Roll out the red carpet and shine up those Gold Cards. Digital My Starbucks Rewards™ are here!

One of the most popular requests on My Starbucks Idea has been for digital rewards. We want to say “thank you” for this awesome idea and the continued conversation, because starting today your rewards will be loaded directly on your registered Starbucks Card or mobile app.

How exactly will digital rewards work, you ask? Well, instead of receiving those snail mail postcards, once you have earned your free reward an email will notify you of your reward.

After that, it's a simple process:
1. Visit any participating company-operated Starbucks.
2. Tell the barista you have a free reward that you want to use.
3. Present your registered Starbucks Card or scan your Starbucks app.

And voilà, your qualifying drink or food item on your transaction will be free. That’s right – you can now use your “free reward” on food, too.

Please make sure you update your account with your most current email address so we can email you when you have a digital reward available.  And check out the FAQs if you have more questions!

Great idea but why did u have to take away the free soy and syrup?!? Just because I'm allergic to milk I have to pay more, BS.

I think it's really amazing that Starbucks gave the rewards an "overlap" period of time (about a month backload of rewards) - Lots of people (myself included) ended up with a few extra drinks because they got rewards electronically where a drink coupon may have previously been sent.  Anyways, bottom line, that was a very nice touch.

So far, I'm liking how easy it is to redeem a reward - I just tell the baristas I have a reward coupon and they press a button and it's free.  Very cool.

I do have a reward sitting out there that I earned on Oct. 6.  However, I only know about it by accident because I didn't receive a postcard OR an e-mail and I don't know when it expires.

@carollk - you can view your rewards online at Starbucks.com.  In the future you'll receive an email when you receive a new reward.

Do you know how soon you'll have the digital rewards available at the franchisees? My closest Starbucks is in a grocery store and they can't do the digital rewards. I LOVE the idea of not having to wait forever for a postcard, but it sure would be nice to have all Starbucks able to do it!

I earned a free drink a few days before the official start-up date of the new rewards system....does that mean I will still be sent a postcard?  My app shows that I earned the free drink, but there is nothing showing that it is loaded onto my app, so I'm assuming I still have to wait for one last postcard.  How do you know a free drink is loaded on your phone app?  Does it show up in messages...how much is it valued at?  I know you can now use it on food, but what kind?  Is it pastry only or can I buy a bistro box with it?

No, you won't be sent a postcard.  Tell the barista you have a free reward available and present your registered card.  Yes, you can use it for a bistro box.

I received one email re one reward.  (I have more rewards)   I would not have known of them (except of course, I pretty much know what I've spent etc) had I not checked MSR......

i never got an email for my reward, but i did see the graphic in the iphone app that i earned a reward.  now, i'm just supposed to tell the barista that i have a free reward and then i scan my phone?  SBUX, i love you guys, but that's a terrible process.  why not have a rewards section of the app where you could view your available rewards and scan those?  what if i order a fancy latte i've been waiting to try with my hard-earned rewards, only to be told i don't have any rewards?

Mine says 2 rewards available pn my phone app, but I never got an email.  I am confused of how it is loaded yet my balance is the same and I don't see a way to scan the reward.  Maybe it should be a 'message' or egift???  It is still confusing, but if Icanfigure it out, I will be happy.  Great idea, just needs refining.

Exactly. "Company-owned." There goes getting my fiance a coffee in the airport when we meet up. We always have done this, like flowers, but not with airport prices even higher and them turning away my free drink.  You need to give the option to print a reward coupon or something for your licensed stores (which I already hated.)

Where is my reward?  I didn't get an email and didn't see anything on my phone app.  I am extremely disappointed.  Am I missing something?

You can view your rewards online.  In the Card menu on Starbucks.com click on "view your stars".

It actually isn't that simple.  You have to click on a link in small print called "See More Details" in order to get any information about your reward history.

The Starbucks in our building is a licensee (Compass) and they do not accept digital rewards.  Why, wouldn't they operate under a Company-Owned store policy?

The problem is you can only redeem free drinks at a Starbucks owned. Not Giany, Safeway, Target, etc. I do not have a close Starbucks. I have always gone to my local at Giant. They took the mailed cards, but do NOT redeem the "loaded" free drinks on my card. I have earned them, they are there, but I can't redeem them. How profitable for Starbucks. How sad for Gold card members.

Electronic rewards suck! My local Starbucks isn't a "corporate store" so I can't redeem my electronic rewards. So, basically, I have no rewards program at all now. How is that an improvement??

I agree. I think the rewards going digital is a clever way to get rid of 50% of Gold card member redemptions. Non-corporate stores would take the physical post card coupon for a free drink, but will not take the digital version. You prohibit us from simply PRINTING out the gold card rewards which means that it was your intention to limit them. This might be ok in the long run if you didn't put an expiration date on the rewards, but nope you have a quick expiration! I think this is the straw that broke the camel's back. I pay a LOT of money a week to buy Starbucks every day from a non-corporate store and don't care for your exclusion policy. If you can do without me, then I can do without you.

It would also be very nice if the rewards were accepted. When I try to use it I get we don't have the scanner, or we are not a Starbucks store. This is very frustrating. I fly allot and the airports don't seem to accept them. Please give us the post card as they took that. I too have lost my rewards because no one accepts them. This is turning in to a scam as far as I am concerned.

PLEASE FIX THIS IMMEDIATELY!!!!

Also I would like my free syrup back.  :(

Worst.  Idea.  Ever.

No one knows how it works in the stores.  I have to tell someone I might have a reward.  Now the line just got longer at Starbucks.  Apparently I had 5 waiting once I checked my junk mail after I asked the store if I had some.  They told me there was no way to check.

Just send the postcard again.  Please.
