New Year, New Oatmeal

January is a time for New Year’s resolutions, which for many of us, means making better food choices.  We’ve seen your ideas for improving the oatmeal and your requests for some new toppings.  Your ideas have inspired our new steel cut oatmeal. It’s made with 100% old-fashioned rolled oats, and you can have it topped with fresh blueberries, agave syrup and a complex mix of dried figs, dried cranberries, pepitas and almonds.

The new oatmeal may only run you 280 calories, but with 7 grams of protein and 6 grams of fiber, you’ll have no problem mustering energy to complete all of those other resolutions. Ski lessons, here I come!

For those of you who were loyalists to our previous oatmeal offering, never fear – our classic toppings are still available and now are even better over our new recipe.  Let us know what you think of the new oatmeal.

Happy New Year!

The blueberries are only available at 4,500 USA stores out of more than 10,000 stores in the USA. Also not available in Canada.

It is great that Starbucks introduces new products, but please be clear about where they are available.

Also, the training for the new oatmeal has been abysmal. It cannot be made like the "classic" and the topping choices/options are not well known. Plus there is an upcharge for new vs. the classic as well as a charge for the blueberries.

I've had it twice now, the first time without any notice that it must steep for 5 minutes.  I had it again today, and this Barista both verbally told me and put a sticker on the container for the steeping time.

However, both instances have been less than "perfect".  The Baristas seem to always add too much water.  However, I can attest to the oatmeal and new toppings (sans agave) to be delicious (once I drank some of the excess oat-water)!  The fresh blueberries were indeed fresh, and not one popped when I mixed them into the oats.

If I had one recommendation, it would be to have completely steel-cut oats and make them slow-cooker style!  That would be delicious, and I'd be more than willing to pay extra. :)

I really like oatmeal and usually pick it up to go.  I like the toppings on the side so I can mix them in when I get to work and it also gives the oatmeal time to meld.

I hated the new oatmeal, but changes have been made; now hotter serving (was luke warm); including brown sugar; and more topping choices. Back to SB for breakfast now; thanks for listening!

Thanks everyone for your comments. We are working to improve oatmeal every day and hoping that everyone is seeing the differences. Keep the feedback coming!

The "new" oatmeal portion seems smaller and it did not look or taste much different from the "old" oatmeal.  I am disappointed that you now have to pay extra for toppings.
