Can Your Business Use Square?

Recently, we announced a collaboration with Square and started accepting mobile payments using Square Wallet at most of our U.S. stores. So far, a number of you have used the payment app at Starbucks.  We would love to hear your feedback on this and any ideas you have for us regarding Square Wallet.

Beginning this month Starbucks will sell Square Mobile Card Readers in our U.S. stores.  The Square Mobile Card Reader allows business owners to easily and inexpensively accept credit card payments. It costs $10, and you get a $10 credit from Square if you register a new Square account. You can learn more at Square’s website.

Take a look at this video to see how a farmer’s market vendor uses Square and the positive impact on the business.  So if you’re a furniture seller on Craig’s List, a professional dog walker, or working on the next big thing; do ask about the Square Mobile Reader at your local Starbucks.

I have had Square since they first were introduced ... they are awesome. Very amazed and pleased to see the very professional square up product available at the stores. Very easy and convenient

From my experience none of the baristas know what Square is or how to accept payment.  I have addressed this with store managers and district managers and the situation remains the same. It would appear Starbucks dropped the ball on this roll out and staff need to be trained or at the very least informed about Starbucks partnership with Square.

I read the Wired article on Squared recently, on that basis alone it gets my vote.  The training issue could be a roadblock to its successful deployment though; if the trials so far have been a success, probably a more substantial investment into the deployment of the system would be appropriate.
