I have a burning question - is this series going to replace the current global collector icon series?

The YAH mugs are colorful, but I will not purchase any of them.  I like collecting the US Global Icon series.  I am missing 17 in the US series.

The YAH mugs are juvenile, and Starbucks produced them to compete with the ugly mugs from Dunkin donuts....

Please answer the question about the Icon series..are they all being discontinued?

Local barista said the Icon mugs cannot be ordered anymore and that remaining inventory is all that is left.  This was in the Boston area.

I got the Chicago "You Are Here" one when I one day realized:  I have a lot of other places, (not same series), city mugs but not even the simple one from the city where I was born and grew up.  So, I did get this one for Chicago.  The Chicago colors could be better, but , no one asked me.  I still like it and it I will always keep it.  (think they did a better job on the Chicago 'card')

Awesome! Please add Charleston SC

Clemson SC and Greenville SC

Thanks!

I hope you keep them the same size they have been .

I know this is a corporate website and it has the right to delete any comments made by customers, but deleting my previous comment about this series was heavy-handed, in my opinion.

These mugs are a totally fun and different style. Was there a specific design inspiration?

They remind me of the Mary Blair design of It's A Small World in the Disney parks.

Just picked up two of the You Are Here mugs at the Pike Place Market (first Starbucks)  Will be a great gift for people who like Starbucks and a bit of history as well.

I have not seen these yet but I hope they have stats on the city printed on the mug like in the past.

I almost doubt that ConnieS had this in mind when suggesting more coloful city mugs... In fact, I would also love to have more of the city mugs in yellow, green and other bright colors instead of having too many in blue or even brown. However, you could have just changed the colors for the existing style of the 2008 Global Icon Series to some brigther base colors. I am crazy about the 2008 series - the mugs really have character and style and my plan was to collect so much more of them - it was so much fun to hunt for them during vacation and was like bringing a trophy home each time! But if the You Are Here Collection will actually replace the '08 Global Icon Series I am sure that my hunting has come to an end. The new style is just no style anymore - the mugs look completely ridiculous and rather give the impression that a child's drawing got printed on them. In my opinion, Starbucks was always outstanding compared to other merchants offering city mugs, but with the new series it looks like you are trying to beat them in producing cheesy looking mugs that nobody would like to have sitting on a cupboard.

PLEASE do not discontinue the '08 Global Icon Series! At least run them additionally for a while to see which one sells better and I am sure you will reconsider the new look.

I hope these do not replace the icon series. too many people are already committed to that collection and it would upset us to lose that series. Ive already been to stores that have both options on shelves because they still have stock of the icon series, and I can say that they look great next to each other. Instead of pushing collectors away, they should invite customers to collect both. Do not discontinue the icons line for something so far from it.

Collecting takes time... Sometimes a lifetime! But when items are around for only a few years, it makes it impossible to do.  I am very disappointed and will not start a different mug collection from Starbucks.  The old mugs should remain active!

I love love love the Global Icon series mugs.  Please do not discontinue.  I have so many now I have to recount just bought a beautiful display cabinet for them.  These mugs are distinct and sophisticated.  The new YAH series are cute and whimisical but do not compare to the Global Icon series.  Keep making them.  I just got three mus from Thailand and Germany.....need my friends, colleagues and family to travel more to get the complete list.

Hi. I am from the UK. I just started my Icon Series collection last year and I am deeply saddened to know that the series has ended. I feel that the fact that the mugs were sold at many countries outside the US, like the UK and Asian countries, really contributed to the huge success of the series. On a related note, are you planning to expand the ‘You Are Here’ series of mugs to outside America countries? I will gladly jump on the new bandwagon.

Is this going to replace the current 2008 Global Icon Series?? I just started my Icon Series, and LOVE them. But now when I go to the stores, all I see is YAH mugs. They are nice for some people, or new collectors, but not if I already had 50 of the "2008 Global Icon Series". The size don't match!!! To me, YAH look like mugs for kids. Please do not discontinue 2008 Global Icon Series, have them both in store!!!  Let the customers pick which one they'd like to buy!!

1. Is this replacing the '08 series?

2. will you include more major cities and states with this new collection? for example, the '08 series did not have anything for South Carolina, or Kansas or Virginia. This is disappointing.

I'm an avid collector with 28 city mugs from the '08 series.

Is there any way to purchase mugs from locations other than your own metro area? I live in Dallas-FW, but would really like to be able to purchase other locations. I've never found them on the Starbucks site.

Thanks for any help!

I just received a You Are Here California mug and LOVE it! I never saw the 2008 series but now that I've seen pictures of them I have to say I like the YAH series much more. I just wish they were available to purchase somewhere other than Ebay for those of us who aren't able to travel much. I guess I'll need to start nagging my traveling friends!

Annoyed.  That is how I felt in San Diego upon seeing the new "You Are Here" mug sitting on the shelf at Starbucks, in the rightful place of the mug from the global icon series.  Market this new series if you must, but please do not discontinue the other series.

These mugs are horribly tacky and look like they were made for kids.  I could care less if they are sold alongside the icon edition city mugs, but if they are replacing the Icon series city mugs, you'll be losing many long time collectors including me.  That would be the last time I set foot inside starbucks.

Noooooo!!!!! Please bring back the ICON mugs!!! I am a newer collector, I started in 2010 when I went on a European Road Trip and decided the best souvenir for me would be the mugs! As someone who doesn't drink coffee, shocker I know, I was seeking out Starbucks for the sole reason of buying mugs...but I wont be anymore! I am very sad and disappointed with the new YAH mugs, they are smaller, more expensive, and kid looking. I liked the uniformity of the old style with the the few color variations! And the bigger size is my favorite as well as my families favorite! Please listen to the comments here and know that for every one comment there are more people out there that agree but aren't ones to sign in and comment! Please bring them back or at least make them available to purchase alongside the new designs...

I created an account just so I could leave a comment. I, like MANY others am also an avid collector of the ICON mugs. I, like MANY others will also not buy the new YAH mugs. I think that Starbucks will be making a very big mistake by discontinuing the ICON mugs and will lose a great deal of sales because of this. Why not do both? Give Starbucks customers an option. I'm sure there are people that like the new ones, but there are many out there that only like the old ones. Please, keep the ICON and sell both.

I'm a collector of the Global Series, and I hope that they will still be kept in circulation alongside the "You Are Here" series. The new ones, as others have stated, resemble the unattractive Dunkin Donuts products and are nowhere near as stately as the Global Series mugs. Not a good call, Starbucks.

I was just looking at the mugs to see what is available, in my location, for a friend who collects them and I see that you don't have a "Massachusetts" but you do have two city mugs for what is essentially the same city: "Boston" and "Cambridge". I also see there is no Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island or Connecticut mugs. I mean....really? I had a glimmer of hope when I saw "Portland" but I am pretty sure you mean Portland, Oregon, don't you? Because nobody thinks of Portland, Maine, even though it's a much better city.

I am very disappointed in you, Starbucks.

PLEASE DO NOT DISCONTINUE THE CURRENT COLLECTORS GLOBAL SERIES!!!!!.....YOU HAVE TOO MANY CUSTOMERS COLLECTING FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD....

I WOULD BE EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN STARBUCKS AND WILL NOT PURCHASE OR START A NEW COLLECTION!

IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!!

Don't get I'd of the Icon series! I am an avid collector and they are very popular!!!! Will you be making an Icon Kansas City Mug? I was told that the store at Country Club Plaza on Nichols street is still waiting and was told it wold be available by spring. If that is the last mug available so be it, but really hope you do not get rid of these! The you are here series are more like traditional tacky mugs IMO, so please consider your customers ideas, after all, we are the ones who purchase :)

What a sad decision by Starbucks.

I think these mugs are a clear step backwards from  past series. The design is not distinct and masculine enough to make its way into our office where it has become a sport since the early 2000s to bring in new mugs from business travels and share them with the colleagues.

Soon enough, I will have to spend my money at ebay getting old mugs instead of getting them at the Starbucks store.

By the way, why are people posting questions here do they really think somebody from Starbucks is going to answer them?

I have been collecting Starbucks mugs for 20 years. I travel constantly - but I don't drink coffee. I am a tea drinker.

I started buying these mugs because I needed one in different cities I was working in, one that could be reheated in a microwave, and that was cute and hip.  Ta-da Starbucks mugs.  I now have them from around the world.

My biggest complaint is that the original mugs were much larger.  That is why I was attracted to them in the first place.

What are the sizes for these new mugs?

Are you ever going to come back with teh 22 oz mugs?

Why is it so difficult to find stores that carry the city and state mugs?

I agree with others about the disappointment expressed over the previous mug collection being discontinued. I do hope that's not the case. I have been collecting the mugs for a few years now and enjoy finding them and receiving them from family and friends who know how much I love them. I'm also not an avid coffee or tea drinker, but these mugs have become my go to souvenir. While I don't care for the new mugs and likely wont collect them, I hope Starbucks will listen to its dedicated customers and still offer the Icon mugs, so people have an option.

NO on more "colorful" city mugs! What happened to the ones we were collecting@? Elegant style. These new more "colorful" mugs are sort of tasteless....not to offend. Starbucks has always had a certain design level and it has usually been quite nice and tasteful.

These "new" mugs look like the cheap roadside stop mugs you can pick up anywhwere...need I really say more??? Go back to something more inline with Starbucks quality...PLEASE.

I'm not sure what everyone is freaking out about with the YAH collection. It is awesome and way more creative then the last. Maybe if you're 60+ and still watching the Dick Van Dyke show would you think these are ugly or to use another users ridiculous statement "cheap roadside stop mugs."

And did people think that the same collection would be produced forever...? Get over it and enjoy the new stuff that is coming out.

Good job on the new mugs, it's a great improvement!

I like the new mugs. I was so excited to see them in the store.

I understand people's concern that have collections. However, I've been collecting the city mugs since before the icon collection, so I have three different varieties of these mugs. I'll be happy to add the YAH mugs to my collection.

I share the same opinion as others, I went to Washington D.C. not too long ago and can't find the City Icon Series, I heard it will be available until July from Baristas in Boston, NY and Philly, but it seems like it's not the case. Despite some people like the new "YAH!" mugs, these mugs just don't impress me as it doesn't have the "Map" and "Passport" feel like the older mugs. I could have as easily made each of em' myself in ceramics because of the awfully simple graphics.

I know you may think it would let everyone start a new collection but these mugs are barely usable daily. The color even if it is on a Large Cup like the old City Icon Series mugs won't let me spend a buck on it. For now I'll just buy the Architect series until you revive the City Icon Series which I only have 4 mugs but was going to collect a shelfful. I am disappointed...

So disappointed!!!!!!!

I have been collecting the Icon city mugs for a while and I still get excited every time I find a new one, until my last trip when I saw the new YAH mug. I wanted to cry when the guy working there said these were the new models and would most likely be replacing the Icon mugs!

Please tell me this isn't true!!!! I still have many more to collect I did force myself to buy the atlanta YAH model, but once I got home and compared it to my collection I did regret it. I agree with everybody else! the new ones look childish, cheap and have no place near my icon collection. I hope Starbucks keeps the tradition and doesn't discontinue the icon series. and I will not be buying any more of the YAH models!

Oh and I'm no where near 60 years old...
