Community is a Powerful Thing

The community we’ve built together at My Starbucks Idea is powerful.  Today marks our five year anniversary since launch, and we’ve done a lot of amazing things together.
From Splash Sticks to help contain spills, to coffee K-cup® packs for Keurig machines, to a larger focus on recycling, you’ve helped make Starbucks a better experience in so many ways. In fact so far we’ve launched 277 of your ideas!

We recently launched an idea based on comments that you want to know your barista’s name. This year at our Leadership Conference, where store managers come together, we heard that store partners were ready for this too.  They see the value of connecting with you and hope it helps you feel more a part of your Starbucks store.

You’ve also told us via MSI that you want a way to recognize your favorite baristas.  So we introduced the Starbucks Collection on the Red Stamp™ mobile app and website.  Here you can find six greeting cards for sending a customized message to your barista.  This is just another way to build community in your Starbucks.

Now let’s imagine what we can accomplish in the next five years. Thinking and writing about “community” leads me to ask: Can we do more than change your in-store experience? Can we improve our neighborhoods and shared communities?  That’s an idea we’d like to launch with your help. So share your ideas. We’re listening.

Bring back the free syrup and soy for gold card members!

I agree with emto7 "Bring back free syrup and Soy for gold card members" AND give a Star for EVERY drink purchased. No sense in asking Barista's to ring up purchases separately. :) Please and Thank YOU!

How about no expiration date on the free reward drink? I got a free drink reward, and it expired two weeks after I received the notification. That was embarrassing, and frustrating.

Thirded. The price of getting a weekly latte goes up by $53+ a year because of having to pay for soy and syrup. I wouldn't mind paying for the syrup, but soy? Soy is cheaper than milk. You don't charge people to add as much as they want at the condiment bar...

Since becoming a loyal Starbuck community member when I was in college, I've gotten married and had kids...three kids!  More than ever I appreciate (and need) my Starbuck experience and CRAVE the pleasure of a warm latte!  HOWEVER, carting 3 kids along means I'm running late for things and having to buckle, unbuckle, and juggle them!!!  The thought of going into the store can be overwhelming (although worth it...I don't always have the time or energy to make it happen).  I live on the Westside of LA and can't find a drive-through Starbucks!!!  Strong recommendation to plan drive through Starbucks in family dense areas!!!  FYI, there are two shops on in the 90045 (near Sepulveda and Manchester) right across the street from one another.  This area is SERIOUSLY concentrated with families and people on the run.  One of these might be a great place to start (although, I'm biased).  :)

I am thrilled that partners now wear name badges! I love to personally acknowledge them when I'm in the store, and this just makes it so much easier, thank you! Partners are part of our extended family in a way for us regulars that frequent Sbux twice a day during work.

I really want this year to be the year that Sbux finally makes a sugar-free chai tea latte concentrate. I know all about the "misto" option, but it's not the same and your partners agree with me. I sadly have to get just a steamed milk and then come back to my desk and heat up a cup of Oregon Chai's sugar-free concentrate that I buy from QFC, and mix it in. It's not the same! You have a sugar-free chocolate syrup now, please please hear our cry lol!

i wasn't even aware that soy & syrups were not available for gold members until just reading the comments. better communication please ! and why are these options no longer free to us gold members? have we not proved we are worthy through our loyalty?

app could be improved. there should be a section in the app that tells me how many free drinks i have.

=)

I would also love to see the free syrup back for the gold card members. Also i keep writing to Starbucks asking to please locate a store in the Milford,Ma area. I had heard that one was going in the Stop & Shop or Target store here but have seen no sign of things to come!

Would have to agree with the "No expiration date" on the free drink rewards. Have had a few expire in the past for lack of not knowing that policies have changed. Also a star for each drink purchased would be nice. Although I know I may be asking for too much. :)

I agree with earning one star for each drink/food purchase instead of one per transaction. Delivery would also be great!!  There is a small coffee shop in my area, and we have to order from there at work since they deliver. It's not nearly as good as Starbucks though! :(

Please bring back free syrups and soy like everybody else

Mentioned. What's the point of having a gold card. Every other coffee shops offer free drinks every 10 or 12 drinks.

What would be magical would be a way to text in an order before you arrive and have it ready for you, only if you are a gold card member.  Also free soy and syrups.  Lastly, 1 year expiration on free drinks.

I was wondering if there is a Starbucks car magnet out there....I saw that Caribou Coffee has one....it says 'Bou.....Starbucks could have one that says 'Bux.....I would definitely buy one...

Could you offer Stevia as a sweetener?  For those of us that are trying to avoid both calories and chemicals, stevia is a great option.  I love it in my Zen tea.

Congratulations Cecile and the MSI Team on 5-years.

As a participant who has been on MSI since its launch I too realize the power of this community. Too bad most of the comments above are from folks whose IDs I do not recognize from Idea side, so they come here and complain. Sorry to be expressing my grumpy side, but you and your MSI Team have put up with a lot. Just think what could be accomplished if the complainers and whiners could focus their energy in a more positive direction.

I would like to see every dink purchased because I have to order every drink separate which is a pain for those waiting behind me. I didn't know there was an expiration date on the free drinks earned. I've received two drinks but can't use them because my Starbucks is at a Safeway grocery store and they can't credit the free ones. They said I have to go to the local Starbucks which is 30 min away. What sense is a gold card if I have to drive 30 min instead of driving 2 miles. Now that I read there is exp dates I'm worried I may have lost my stars. That's not right. I go 3-4 times a week but in the am can't drive 30 min for a drink.

I would like to be treated like the customers in the USA. Same cards, same free drinks, stars, gift cards, everything.

Please bring back the free soy option!!! The syrups would be nice too and I like the idea of the star for every drink purchased on an order instead of separate orders to earn the stars.

Is there any way you could start selling Kombucha? Whole foods has it on tap and I absolutely love it, but I'm at Starbucks more often during the work week, it's more convenient. Just wondering if you had considered it

I second the stevia, and with the acquisition of Teavana you should definitely add their mate to your tea lineup. I suggest JavaVana Mate.

Congrats Cecile......and to all of us who have helped (I hope....) keep it focused and even (mostly;)  civil!   I have to say, while 2008 was a horrible yr for me in many ways (lost my Dad), had quite a few personal struggles, I was very glad to find MSI and be able to use my voice.  (especially against PPR all day!)  While it (PPR) is still here, all day, we have moved on to be able to get, always, a good cup of BOLD (now called "dark") roast.

Again, congrats to Cecile, especially!

Congratulations on running a great forum to improve Starbucks for five years! While some things can't easily be changed, it is nice to know that Starbucks is at least willing to listen to voice of its consumers and implement the ideas it can.

(have to agree with DadC...., as usual.  I was amazed at how many people came over here, to I in A., and this particular post, to post their wishes and "ideas".  Kind of amazing!)  All the more reason to say congrats on lasting 5 years!!!!    And, crazy as it gets sometimes, am hoping for 5 more!

Yea! I love the Bucks but I have one request: That the oven in all stores stay open until closing time so that full service comes with the stated open hours.

I live in Los Osos CA and Starbucks is one of the only restaurants in my small beach town; the stated hours are 5:30am-9pm. And it is really an awesome place and the people who work there are wonderful... but this has happened repeatedly and I think if it is a policy it should be changed:

At 8:25 pm last night I went in (there were at least 12 customers besides me in the place), and I ordered my Vienti Carmel M. and a veggie artisan. But the response I get is: "I am sorry our oven is already shut down." Really? 35 minutes before closing time, seems a tad early to me.

I believe the ovens at all Starbucks should be in operation for the entire hours-span stated on their door. That is all.

It is not like they have to stay open until midnight or anything--9pm is not that late to start cleaning the oven when the restaurant is always busy... my opinion.

Thank you for listening!

I have enjoyed collecting cups whenever there is a "major market" opportunity. Starbucks, please consider popular markets too like Green Bay, El Paso and Milwaukee!

Perhaps the smaller markets can have a multi- name cup such as Plattsburg - Lake Placid. The New York cup is not adequate! I have one for the city visit, of course!

Finally, bring back the bears!
