My Starbucks Rewards™ in the Grocery Aisle

Hi everyone! MSI member redondokid310 recently posted an idea about earning rewards for grocery purchases – and I’m excited to tell you that’s now a reality.

That’s right, My Starbucks Rewards™ members will soon be able to earn Stars for purchasing specially marked packages of coffee where they buy groceries. Starting in early May, we began adding Star codes to our packaged coffees sold in grocery stores. To find these Star codes, look for the My Starbucks Rewards™ logo on a small sticker on the front of the package.

After you buy the coffee, earning your Star is easy. Simply peel off the sticker and enter its 9-digit code online. Your Star will be added to your account within 24 hours.  Don’t have a My Starbucks Rewards account yet?  Don’t worry – you can create one using your first Star code.

Can’t find a package with a Star code sticker? Please be patient – we’re rolling out the Star codes to all our grocery partners over the next few weeks. And though we’re starting with packaged coffee for now, in the future we hope to roll out Star codes to other products (like Starbucks VIA® instant coffee).

Bringing Stars to the grocery aisle is just another way we’re helping our loyalty program members turn their Starbucks purchases into rewards like free refills, free drinks and free food. Happy shopping!

Thanks Colleen and to Starbucks!

Hope these are also available at other places like Costco where I usually pick up my French Roast whole beans, or sometimes the Italian Roast VIA when available.

"Simply peel off the sticker"

I hope this does not mean it is so easy that when i go to buy some coffee from the store I find out someone went through snagging codes.

This is a great idea and it will have me buying SB coffee when I need some for home.

Great idea! Thanks for this!

I agree with @SBDoubleShotEd on how I hope it is not easy for people to stand there, and snag my code if I purchase the coffee.

Hope we still get a free tall coffee by presenting the empty bag.

5/22/2013 9:12 AM

The free tall coffee offer is currently still valid as long as it is on a bag of Starbucks coffee.

Also, to respond to Archena…MSR stickers will be available on French Roast at Costco but not yet on VIA and other Starbucks products.

I second that - all we buy is KCups. A lot of them - decaf mostly. I get Starbucks sometimes & like it, but also get other brands when they're on sale, etc. I would love to get star codes on these and buy Sbux KCups only!

I love this idea. It works great. I've gotten several stars already from my bagged coffee at the grocery. It would be nice if I could just scan the gold star with my phone.

I prefer to keep all rewards at Starbucks rather than at grocery stores, but thats just me !

Lorileem
11/20/2013 8:12 PM

When I bought my 2 1/2 lbs. of coffee, I was under the assumption that I was getting a free drink.  A star is fine by me, but I seem to remember the coupon said "free drink" and then on the back of the coupon were the details.

I just think it should have said "towards" a free drink instead of "free drink".

Mr Steve
11/20/2013 8:15 PM

You get a star by peeling off the code.  If you take the empty bag into a Starbucks, you get a free small coffee.  I do both every time I buy a bag.

I loved the idea, however after going to my local grocery stores I've found that people go through the bags and rip the stickers off of the bags so no rewards for me even though I am the one actually buying the product.

11/20/2013 9:08 PM

Maybe the reward code should be printed inside the bag instead of using a peel off on the outside of the bag.  It would keep the snaggers honest and make them realize that they can't always get everything for free and take from the ones who actually pay!

jordansmom
11/20/2013 9:14 PM

I agree, the code should be on the inside of the packaging. I see people peel them off without purchasing the coffee.

It would have been a good idea if people were honest-when I tried to buy coffee with stick on codes I found people had gone through and removed almost all the codes on the packages.

rubenpoole
11/20/2013 9:22 PM

Rewards should be on the inside. My daughter saw that someone had gone through and peeled off all the codes on the outside of the packages. Unfortunately, this is the reality.

In our world of high tech and commerce why can't the

stores add the rewards to customer account at point

of purchase.  It could possibly be a win win win for

the store, customer, and Starbucks.

Part of the reason I love Starbucks is because of the rewards program. It's a win-win for Starbucks to extend the rewards to their products purchased through other retailers. Consumers will have the added incentive to continue to reach for Starbucks products at their local grocers instead of other products. Why would I buy another brand to save a couple of dollars when I earn a star, get a free tall brewed beverage and get to enjoy the same Starbucks blends I enjoy from Starbucks cafes? It's a no brainer! :-)

princess89
11/21/2013 8:14 AM

I love this idea. I buy a lot of Starbucks coffee for our church. We give out free coffee on Sunday, so we go through a lot of Starbucks. I do agree with previous comments that the rewards code should be on the inside of the bag. This prevents others from taking the code and let's the actual person buying the coffee receive the code as a reward on their Starbucks card.

This is a great idea and have been inserting codes for points since they came out... however, in the past week or so (11/11 - 11/16), I've noticed there have been no gold code stickers on "Good Morning Joe" bags that I have purchased in the grocery store. Was wondering if Starbucks had eliminated the gold code stickers?
