New Starbucks Location – Utrecht Centraal Station, Netherlands

Hi there,

Many of you have told us at MSI that you would like more Starbucks stores in the Netherlands. We currently have three store locations at the Schiphol Airport and another Starbucks will open at the Utrecht Centraal Station this week. The store will be centrally located in the arrival hall next to De Broodzaak en Bruna.

There are plans for another railway station location later this year at Amsterdam Centraal Station.

Hello chocolate lovers! I'm Rachel, a very lucky partner on the beverage team who loves chocolate and has had the good fortune to work on our new Starbucks® Signature Hot Chocolate. We've heard your requests for a richer, more chocolaty, European style hot chocolate and if you (like me) have those "I need chocolate" moments, this will satisfy that chocolate craving.

Four unique cocoa powders and indulgent cocoa butter give the beverage its smooth & creamy texture with a decadent & sophisticated chocolate flavor.

Some of you expressed a wish for hazelnut or caramel hot chocolate...you can personalize your Starbucks® Signature Hot Chocolate with any of our flavored syrups (for those of you who blogged about Mexican chocolate, try adding Cinnamon Dolce syrup). For a limited time we'll be making a very special Salted Caramel Starbucks® Signature Hot Chocolate topped with caramel sauce and a blend of French sea salt & Hawaiian turbinado sugar...salty & sweet and unbelievably decadent.

The Starbucks® Signature Hot Chocolate will be in our US and Canadian stores starting September 30 (we've been offering it in our international markets for a few years now). Good news for the many MSI visitors like Cindy30 who have asked for more Starbucks in the Netherlands. More stores are on the way!

The first new store will open is scheduled for the spring of 2009 to be located in Centraal Station in Amsterdam. The plan is to open more stores in other top railway stations and use this as a platform to further expand across the Netherlands. So, just a few more months until we have a store in the heart of Amsterdam! And only a few months after that until there are stores in other cities.

The Centraal Station is undergoing a major renovation and Starbucks is thrilled to be a part of that transformation. We're very excited to a key component of this renovation.

These new stores makes sense, too, as the Netherlands is very important to Starbucks. The Amsterdam Roasting Plant is the only Starbucks roasting plant outside the U.S. It ships coffee to 1,200 stores all over Europe. But until now the only stores we had were in that plant and in Schiphol Airport.
