I wanted to share with you a site feature that just launched - Report Abuse! So far, the community has done a good job of staying focused primarily on ideas, but from time to time some get a little off track. We have now provided an MSI abuse reporting function on each idea. Once logged in simply click on the link under the idea and it is flagged to the MSI moderators. If you see some unacceptable language, spam, something is miscatgorized - it is now easier to let us know!

Thanks for your help in keeping us focused on generating ideas!

That is exactly what we asked our shareholders to do at this year’s Annual Meeting.

Each year, Starbucks invites shareholders to attend the Annual Shareholders Meeting in Seattle. This year we gathered on March 18 and the MyStarbucksIdea team greeted and talked with shareholders, showed them the MyStarbucksIdea website, and listened to their ideas for Starbucks.

We met many people and had great discussions around coffee, community, value, food, and healthy options at Starbucks. While waiting for the doors to open, shareholders shared their ideas for Starbucks on this website as well as on video! There was one fun twist to the video submissions though; customers had to tell us their idea for Starbucks in just 12 seconds! Check out some of the 12 second ideas we captured below and if you want to create your own or respond to one of the existing ideas, please do so on the Starbucks Channel on 12seconds.tv. But remember, just 12 seconds. Have fun!

Since we launched this site, you have shared over 65,000 ideas with us. We share the popular ones and interesting sleeper ideas with our partners. Some of the ideas we’ve launched include Great Conversations, Splash Sticks, Free Drink with Purchase of a Tumbler, and Birthday Brew.

Some ideas recently put under review include: Coffee Traveler, Sugar-free Mocha, and Rewards Mug.

Some terms you may see on the site:
• under review means there’s a team of partners actively working on the idea to see if it is viable for the business and relevant and meaningful to our customers and partners.
• reviewed means the idea has been discussed and a decision made not to pursue the idea at this time.
• coming soon means it will be in our stores in the coming weeks.
• launched means we have turned your idea into action.

We look forward to hearing your ideas and turning many into action in 2009.

At this unique and intimate gathering, customers shared some of the reasons why they love Starbucks. Among the common sentiments were - “You know what to expect and there’s a sense of community that we don’t want to lose”, meaning customers want the same type of beverage from store to store, but they also want a neighborhood feel. They may want the same Venti Nonfat No Foam Latte, but they don’t necessarily want the exact same type of chair. They also expressed that they want to be known by name and in return they want to know their baristas by name.

Some of the new things customers said they liked are the splash sticks and the healthier food options like the oatmeal, but wish we had more food options for those with wheat and dairy allergies. They like the Pike Place™ Roast, but miss the other brewed coffees. Preferred last year’s Gingerbread Latte over this year’s Gingersnap Latte. The Starbucks Card and Gold Card programs are confusing. Can they be integrated? Sound familiar? Many more ideas were shared over a course of an hour.

I think we’re onto something here at My Starbucks Idea. Many of these ideas are being considered and work is being done. This live event underscores what is on our customers’ minds. We’ll continue to address these concerns and announce the changes based on your input on MyStarbucksIdea.com.

Starbucks is more than a cup of coffee - it is an experience. We thank you for sharing your ideas with us and we look forward to delivering a great experience one cup of coffee, one customer at a time. Last night was the first stop on the MSI listening tour. Look to these pages for further announcements about locations and ways to participate.

MSI wins Forrester Groundswell Award

Hi everyone! I'm writing this from Dallas, Texas, at the Forrester Consumer Forum. We're here because we were fortunate enough to win a Forrester Groundswell Award. The Groundswell philosophy is one of the elements that have guided our thinking since we started this site, so to have them tell us, "Yea, that's what we meant," was very rewarding.

But more I am writing this to thank you, our community. I say it often, but I'll say it again: without all of you this site would just be us, talking to ourselves. Boring. You make the site come alive and I thank you most sincerely.

I think there is going to be some media available shortly, I'll post that here if available.

In the meantime, you can read about the announcement and the Groundswell philosophy here:
