So, about a year ago, we introduced Vivanno™ Nourishing Blends – a nutritious blended beverage made with simple, high-quality ingredients that deliciously delivers fiber, protein, and real fruit to give you the energy you need to make the most of your day.

Since the launch, we’ve continued to listen to your ideas and we’ve heard you loud and clear – you want a Strawberry Banana Vivanno™ Smoothie! Well, that’s exactly what you can now get a Starbucks … and it’s delicious. The new flavor will deliver the taste and nutrition you’ve come to love from Vivanno™:

Real, simple, high-quality ingredients:

a whole banana

real strawberry puree

whey protein & fiber powder

2% milk (you can choose to change the milk)

ice

Nutrition you can feel good about:

280 calories

15g protein

7g fiber

Low Fat

No artificial flavors. No artificial dyes. No artificial trans fat. No artificial sweeteners. No high fructose corn syrup. That’s right; the wonderful flavor comes from natural ingredients like real strawberry puree!

So, what else is new?

We’ve reformulated our Strawberry Sauce. Goodbye high-fructose corn syrup, added sugar, artificial flavors, and red #40. Hello more strawberry puree, juice and natural flavors. Not only will the Strawberry Banana Vivanno™ Smoothie benefit from this new Strawberry sauce, but our Strawberries & Crème Frappuccino® will now also be that much better.

The new strawberry sauce is less sweet than the old, so for those customers who have come to know and love the sweetness of our Strawberries & Crème Frappuccino ® blended beverage and Strawberry Lemonade, we are now adding Classic Syrup (which is free from artificial flavors, artificial dyes, and high-fructose corn syrup) to those beverages.

We’ve not only simplified our recipes, we’ve simplified the name of the product. We’re calling Vivanno™ what it is … a Smoothie instead of a ‘Nourishing Blend’. Now, isn’t that simpler?

Whether you’re looking for a nutritious on-the-go snack to keep you going, more protein or fiber in your diet, or a delicious, guilt-free, refreshing treat – we know you’ll love Strawberry Banana Vivanno™ Smoothies.

Thanks again for your suggestions. You’ve come up with some great ideas and we’re happy to deliver on them!

Cheers,

Katie

Mark here again from the beverage team. We’ve noticed some concern around the decision to switch to a new soy package and formula, and realize that there are some unhappy soy drinkers out there. Therefore, we wanted to share some information so that you (our loyal soy drinkers) have more visibility into the decisions that affect you. Let’s begin by addressing the packaging change.

We decided to move to a bigger package to reduce our use of packaging materials. We believe this change will have a positive impact on the environment and enable us to reduce our soy milk packaging waste by approximately 25%. We are, and always have been proud of our environmental consciousness when making a decision at Starbucks, the decision to change the soy packaging reflects our mindfulness as stewards of the environment.

When we decided to change the packaging, an opportunity came up to adjust the formula as well. Our product developers crafted a smooth and delicate soy milk that would appeal to many of the soy drinkers. They produced a formula that is easy to aerate when it is steamed and warmed, (to get that velvety foam our cappuccino drinkers adore) while maintaining the same level of sugars as the old version. Just like the old version, the new soy is 100% organic. We tested the new formula using our in-house product testing and it scored well above the old version, signaling we could move forward in production.

We hope that by sharing a bit of background that went into making this decision, you (our loyal soy drinkers) can better appreciate and enjoy this new version of an old favorite.

Sincerely,
Mark

Sugar-free Update

Hi Friends,

I’d like to thank you all for your continued interest and requests for additional sugar-free options at Starbucks. We are considering alternate sweeteners and optimizing our current syrup line-up. Currently, we carry Sugar-free Caramel, Hazelnut, and Vanilla. We are working on a couple of new products we hope to share with you this spring. Keep the ideas coming!

In the meantime, I want to share some new ways to try the sugar-free syrups we have available right now. Sugar-free syrups can be a great addition to a variety of drinks on our menu including lattes, which many of you have already tried. Following are some of my favorite ways to use our three sugar-free syrups (Caramel, Vanilla and Hazelnut) in beverage customizations.

• Sugar-free Vanilla tastes great in place of vanilla syrup in a Caramel Macchiato.
• Try blending various ratios of sugar-free syrups with regular syrups such as a half Sugar-free Hazelnut and half regular Hazelnut syrup in a Latte to save calories and sugar. Or, try substituting Sugar-free Hazelnut syrup in place of regular Hazelnut syrup in a Hazelnut Mocha.
• Substituting Sugar-free syrup in place of regular syrup in a Frappuccino® Blended Coffee or Crème is great too! My favorite is Caramel Frappuccino® blended coffee made with Sugar-free Caramel syrup.
• Don’t forget, sugar-free syrup is yummy in iced coffee and tea too!

As you can see, there are lots of customizations available and whether you’re looking to reduce calories or lower sugar content, sugar-free syrup can be a great addition to your beverage. For example, one pump of regular syrup can add about 20 calories and five grams of sugar, but one pump of our sugar-free syrups contains 0 calories and 0 grams of sugar. This is because they are made with sucralose (Splenda®), a non-caloric sweetener. Over time, the calories and sugar saved can add up, so go ahead and try them out and keep the great ideas for the future coming!
Cheers,

sbx_kg

First, as many of you have probably heard, we recently launched the (STARBUCKS) RED campaign, which will donate five cents from the sale of every Starbucks Exclusive Holiday beverage in the U.S. and Canada to the Global Fund to invest in programs in Africa. This program begins on November 27th.

Second, the Starbucks Duetto® Visa® Card has had a donation tied to it since it launched in 2003 in the U.S. and 2005 in Canada. When a cardholder makes their initial purchase using the Starbucks Duetto® Visa® Card, a $5 donation is made to a nonprofit organization. Prior to 2008, the primary benefactor of the Duetto Card donation was CARE. Then in 2008, Starbucks began, and is currently supporting Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) in the U.S. Starbucks selected the Local Initiatives Support Corporation because as an organization they are dedicated to transforming neighborhoods into healthy and sustainable communities of choice through loans, grants, policy support and technical and management assistance. Over $600,000 has been contributed to these organizations so far.

In Canada, the Duetto program supports the Ethos Water Fund. The Ethos Water Fund provides grants to organizations that support bringing clean water to children around the world with hopes of establishing sustainable clean-water programs in Africa, Latin America, India and Indonesia. The Duetto program in Canada has contributed over $125,000 since 2005.
