I get the privilege of working on ‘all things books' at Starbucks, which is why I'm so excited to share an update with you! Last week, a new book hit the shelves of your local Starbucks. Happens Every Day, written by Isabel Gillies, is a true story about marriage, life, and love. Isabel describes the end of her fairytale marriage with honesty and compassion as she reminds readers that life does go on after tragedy.

In addition to Happens Every Day, we are also launching the Starbucks Reading Circle Book Club. We encourage Starbucks readers to meet to discuss this book, share stories, and learn from one another. We also encourage you to check out the Reading Circle Book Club action on Starbucks V2V to meet others who are reading Happens Every Day! To help launch the book club, we are offering a book club starter kit to the first 25 people to post a comment on this blog*.

The starter kit includes:

4 Copies of Happens Every Day
4 Packets of Starbucks VIATM Ready Brew
1 Discussion Question Guide and Reading Schedule
1 Community board flyer to post in Starbucks stores to encourage others to join your book club

Enjoy Happens Every Day and be on the lookout for our next book to arrive in stores this spring.

Bring Back the Books
posted by Animal Lover

I’m Nikkole Denson and I manage the book program for Starbucks. We have been listening to all of your Book Club ideas such as start a book club, Starbooks Club, book circle, and hundreds of others.

Today, we are pleased to announce that we are starting our first Starbucks book club, called the 1st Readers Club, for those of you who enjoy books, coffee, and great conversation! We hope this is the start of a very big thing, but we are starting small. We have created a 1st Readers Club on Starbucks V2V and everyone is welcome to join! The first book is The House at Sugar Beach, by Helene Cooper. The idea is to snuggle up in a comfortable chair, read this book, connect through conversation on V2V, then hold a discussion in your local Starbucks store over a great cup of coffee!

Below are some Starbucks stores that members of the 1st readers club are already planning a book discussion. Check out this action on Starbucks V2V for more information.

Believe in the power of 10,000 partners who worked to help rebuild New Orleans just a few days ago – the power of 10,000 V2V members – the power we all have to achieve our goal of more than one million community service hours per year in the communities where we do business.

Log on to V2V at www.v2v.net/starbucks, find someone you know or who inspires you, and send them a short message to thank them for embracing innovation, standing up as individuals for the causes they care about and encouraging thousands of others to get involved and join them in creating positive change in the world. If you are already on V2V, thank you! If not, we invite you to join V2V today – registration is now open to all.

V2V plays an important role in Starbucks Shared Planet. “Starbucks and you. It’s bigger than coffee.” Learn more at starbucks.com/sharedplanet.

My name is Nancy and I work on the Starbucks Online and Content team.

One of the themes we see most often on My Starbucks Idea is the notion of helping people come together as a community. Ideas as diverse as "Great Conversations", "Bring it Home" or even "Game Night", all have the same common thread of a desire to use relevant, local community building.

We are actively working on finding ways to implement these ideas in our physical stores. But we also have found a way to help the community bond together in a virtual space as well.

It is for that reason that we have just launched our new virtual stores on Starbucks V2V (volunteer-to-volunteer) our social network with a purpose! Here, you will find a "virtual store" for every single Starbucks location around the world! These flexible spaces allow the local community to come together and participate in actions that this particular community cares about.

Once you register on V2V, you can join your specific store and start creating and participating in actions such as cheer parties, coffee seminars, book clubs, walks for a cause, parks clean-ups and anything else you're passionate about. You can also help define how your virtual store looks and feels.

For those of you, who have not heard of Starbucks V2V, click (here) to access our initial blog posting. I encourage you to register, join your favorite "virtual store", and check out all the amazing actions that are going on around the world.

If you have any questions, please contact me at V2V@starbucks.com. I look forward to connecting with all of you in this new space!

My name is Anali and I work on the Starbucks digital team. I’m so excited to say that we have launched a social network called Starbucks V2V (Volunteer to Volunteer) that’s all about building community in your local neighborhood as well as around the world.

I’ve been reading your ideas and I’ve noticed that many of them have a common denominator of building community. The ideas that caught my eye are:

Become More Involved in the Local Community

Starbooks

Groups to meet at Starbucks

These are all great ideas and the cool thing about Starbucks V2V is you are in the driver’s seat and you can create and participate in actions you are passionate about! For example, right now in the community we have actions around recycling, biking, environment, using your tumbler at Starbucks, and so many more!

I encourage you to join this new online community and check out all the amazing actions that are going on around the globe. It’s easy to join – just go to the homepage and click on “Get an Invitation” and I will invite you to join.

If you have any questions, please contact me at V2V@starbucks.com. This community was built for Starbucks customers and partners who are passionate about making a difference in the world. I look forward to connecting with you on V2V!

Have fun and get involved!

Anali
