CUSTOMERS do NOT belong behind the bar. Or, are some customers just "special" exceptions?

It is with much dismay that I note that this wonderful site has been hijacked by an individual, or group of individuals with a clear agenda to drive traffic from this site, to one of their own. However well intended, the commercial value of a website is driven by the volume of traffic it sustains. Should STARBUCKS MSI be nothing more than a means to their end?

This agenda has also extended beyond this site- to the area of STARBUCKS, once sacred territory of the Barista. When did it become acceptable for a CUSTOMER to be invited BEHIND the bar to prepare their own drink? You Mr. Schultz are an employee, and certainly can appreciate the amount of training required, to be behind that bar, and the liability STARBUCKS has for your being there.

Is there ANY circumstance where a CUSTOMER should be permitted to prepare their own drink?

Sounds like a straight forward question- doesn't it?

www.starbucksmelody.com

Showing off a new Clover Starbucks at 2095 Golden Center

Makes for wonderful reading. It clearly illustrates how a DM came to invite a CUSTOMER to prepare their own beverage. This story, accompanied by pictures, clearly showing a GREEN APRON CLAD customer, with below shoulder length hair, clearly unrestrained, cascading over the equipment, as she prepares her beverage, is certainly not the image STARBUCKS should be permitting distribution of. A 'photo-op' is one thing; proper attire, and hygienic practices should still at least appear to be maintained. In several photos, such appears not to be the case. I am certain you are aware that the image STARBUCKS must project, is one that embodies strict adherence to the standards of quality and ideals STARBUCKS has set. I do not believe that these photos, now widely distributed respect those standards.

Context is everything- and when viewed in isolation, who is to know that the person standing behind a CLOVER in a STARBUCKS, wearing a green apron, is not a Barista? And that is why I am upset that a customer was permitted behind the bar, without any regard to CALIFORNIA CODES

HEALTH AND SAFETY CODE SECTION 113967-113971

113969. (a) Except as specified in subdivision (b), all food employees preparing, serving, or handling food or utensils shall wear hair restraints, such as hats, hair coverings, or nets, which are designed and worn to effectively keep their hair from contacting nonprepackaged food, clean equipment, utensils, linens, and unwrapped single-use articles.

--------------------------------------------------------------

STARBUCKS always reserves the right to freely modify, amend, or set aside, any rule or policy IT has created.

STARBUCKS does not have the right to ignore, set aside, or breach, CALIFORNIA HEALTH AND SAFETY CODE Regulations when doing so."

First of all congradulations in posting mystarbucksideas and sharing all the database with all (employees and customers)- what a great way to build your idea database and build new revenue streams!! Now to take it to the next level, what about rewarding those individuals that post very effective, impact oriented ideas that become "launched" by your company? This could be an additional way to inspire additional ideas and could be good PR for he company. I recently posted today my idea/comment on this. I hope I will be able to gain your vote and buy in . Thanks for reading my entry :

What a better way to enhance and build your "ideas program" by rewarding individuals that proposes an idea/or concept(s) , which become a full-fledged "launched" idea. Starbucks could reward the winners in these possible forms: A) Invite them to your Corporate HQ location and provide them a certificate or a " Winner's Idea Starbucks coffee cup" with the idea imprinted on the cup or B) Give them a monetary reward ( say a Starbucks card with a $50 credit( or another value) ...) Starbucks may also consider having a GRAND PRIZE contest , which would include the "top 20 Best Launched ideas" and have a vote done (can have a corporate HQ vote/tally or have also a popular vote to count aswell). The winner of this could have the opportuntiy to go to a coffee plantation or a coffee tasting , or some other type of a value added experience. The contest could be global in nature ( include all the best ideas from world!) - From a loyal Atlanta fan of Starbucks
